Banquet, Class Day Hold Spotlight for Seniors

One hundred thirty six seniors, the largest graduation class ever to emerge from Ponce, will walk the last grand mile to their diplomas on June 5, at 8 p. m. in the Coral Gables Elementary School auditorium. Banquet at Barcelona First on the graduates' list of activities is a banquet to be staged tonight at the Barcelona Restaurant, beginning at 7:45 p. m. Decorations will be of a Spanish theme. Honor guests will be the class sponsors, Mrs. Ruth Johnston, Miss Eloise Patterson, Mrs. Nelle Hill and Miss Grace Kirkey; Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Rath; Mrs. Susan Archer and Mr. Elmer Day, deans; Miss Nedra N'Namara, journalism adviser; and Mrs. Aurelia Davis, school secretary. Seniors Don Finery On the following day, decked in their finery, the seniors will participate in Class Day exercises given in the gym. The exercises begin at 1:00 p. m. They will consist of a procession by the seniors, the reading of the class will by Martin Avery, reading of the prophecy by Marjorie LeSage and Ogden Huns- toun, relding of the class poem by the author Collins Hay, and the presentation of the class gift. "One Hour Family", whose cast will include Helene Zimmerman, Robert Goeser, Bill Stanborth, Ada Dale, Martin Avery and Barbara Grandfield. The play is under the direction of Mrs. Marguerite Harvey, dramatics teacher. Baccalaureate Services Baccalaureate services are to be at the First Methodist Church, Coconut Grove, June 1, with Rev. J. D. Kuykendall speaking. Choral selections will be presented by the Glee Club directed by Mrs. Belle S. Crutchfield. And then the big moment Commencement exercises, which begin at 8 p. m. Dr. George Bradford, former Chatauqua lecturer, will give the address to the graduates, and Rev. Carlock Hawk, of the Coral Gables Methodist Church, will deliver the benediction and prayer of invocation. Diplomas will be presented by Mr. R. P. Terry, member of the school board. Music is to be furnished by the band under the baton of Carl Fien, and the Glee Club, supervised by Mrs. Belle Crutchfield. The Junior-Senior Prom at the Coral Gables Country Club will be the farewell event for the seniors after commencement. The intense look in William Holden's face is occasioned by his proximity to the sensational new screen siren, Veronica Lake. Their romance is part of the story of the Paramount air thriller, "I Wanted Wings," opening Saturday at the Gables Theatre, staring Ray Milland, Wayne Morris and Brian Donlevy.

By an over-whelming majority vote, Clara Perkins and Bill Fielder were selected by the student body to be the reigning monarchs at the Junior-Senior Prom.

Quill, Scroll Will Initiate 7 New Members

President Collins Hay will conduct the installation at his home at 7:30 p. m. for the following pledges: Roger Carl- son, Margery Clark, Betty Ellis, Jane Westerdahl, Edison Archer, Barbarajane Mayhew and Rosemary Hubbell. Roger, Margury and Betty were selected for outstanding work in newspaper writing, while Jane and Edison were invited for their superior work in advertising. Rosemary and Barbarajane attained membership for their work on the annual. Miss Nedra N'Namara, sponsor, must judge the scholastic standing, writing or business ability and character of each student before she recommends him to the national headquarters for membership.

At the Grove

Loretta Young, who stars in her first comedy-Western role in "THE LADY FROM CHEYENNE" starting an engagement beginning Sunday at the Grove Theatre.

Death Takes Visitor

Funeral services and burial were held in Detroit for Stanley V. Hukley, Sr., 64, of 223 Avenida Calabria who died Monday in a Miami hospital. Mr. Hukley was only here three weeks. He was an employee of the Plymouth Motor Company of Detroit. Seven new members of Quill and Scroll will be given a royal welcome into the honorary journalism society Friday night with a formal initiation, banquet and movie.
