54 Persons Seek Division Of Estate
WEST PALM BEACH (FNS) -When fifty-four persons file claims to a $800,000 estate, it often takes the wisdom of Solomon to determine the justice of their claim. Just such a task will fall upon J. D.Farish and W. Terry Gibson, local attorneys, who are members of a commission sitting at London, Ontario, to apportion the estate of Mrs. Helen Weihe, who died at a local hospital last January. Claude Savage, London, Ont., will act with the two attorneys in apportioning the $800,000 among claimants.

200 Health Cards Issued To Domestics
Over 200 health cards for domestics have been issued under Coral Gables' new ordinance, Dr. F. E. Kitchens, city health officer, announced yesterday. The ordinance requires that all domestics employed in Coral Gables homes, undergo a physical examination and obtain a card from the city health department, certifying that they are in good physical condition. Doctor Kitchens said that the department was conducting the examinations at the rate of eight and ten a day. Applicants are issued a combination health and identification card, bearing their name, picture, fingerprints and certificate of good health. Local residents are asked to send their servants to the city health department, second floor of the city hall, to apply for the cards. When quizzed on the food served at the Reception Center, Camp Blanding, Private James McCarty replied, "I've always been used to the best at home, and I certainly feel at home here." Coral Gables has two golf courses, one municipal and the other operated by the Miami Biltmore Country Club.
Hanks Stresses Importance of Civilian Defense
The importance of realizing the impending danger of attack and doing something about it, was stressed Tuesday by Bryan Hanks, speaking at the meeting of the Kiwanis Club at the Country Club of Coral Gables. "Civilian defense is the most important part of warfare today," Hanks stated, and thousands of men, women and children have been killed in England because the cities were inadequately prepared and organized." He pointed out that Norway, Poland, Finland and the other invaded countries had the same attitude that thousands of Americans have today, believing attack by the Nazis impossible. "A smooth-working civilian defense organization is essential in Dade County, and every county in the United States," Hanks said. He outlined the preparations that are now being made in this country for civilian defense, including organization of air raid wardens, boat and air patrols and air raid spotters and listening post personnel.
Safe Holiday Is Advocated
The Florida Safety Council is calling on everyone to be extremely careful on Labor Day so that this last holiday, which closes the summer, shall be without accidents and fatalities. Persons are urged to be unusually careful in driving and taking exercises and in enjoying the beaches. "In commemorating this weekend to labor, let's make it SAFE," urges Asher Frank, director of the Florida Safety Council. The average selectee will show an increase in weight from two to five pounds during the short time he is stationed at the Reception Center, Camp Blanding.
Welcomes Floridians
Earl W. Brown, manager of the Florida State Exhibits at Atlantic City, will be host to Governor Spessard L. Holland, Commissioner of Agriculture Nathan Mayo, state officials, Festival Queens and other Floridians on "Florida Day" in early September. Thousands of buttons will be distributed along the Atlantic City Boardwalk carrying the slogan, "See You in Florida This Winter."
Duke Awards Fellowship To H. Humm
Harold G. Humm, former member of the Ponce de Leon High school faculty, has been awarded a fellowship by Duke University for the coming year and will begin his work on his Ph.D. at the school in the fall. During the summer Mr. Humm has been doing research work on marine bacteria at Beaufort, N. C., for the Duke Research Council. The Humms live in Coral Gables at 109 Avenue Camilo.
Florida Tanks May Soon See War Action
DUNEDIN (FNS).-Amphibian tanks being made at the Dunedin Food Machinery plant may soon see service with the British Army in the Near East if reports seeping through rigid Navy censorship at the plant are correct. It is known that two British Army officers have been watching the tanks go through exhaustive tests, and it is alleged they were exceptionally well pleased with the performance of the tanks invented by Donald Roebling, Clearwater. Reports are that two of the recently completed tanks will be sent to the British Army for use in the Near East for further tests until actual battle conditions. In as much as Britain has no contract with the builders, the units will be shipped under Lease-Lend act provisions.
Narcotics Study Is Planned for Florida Schools
Narcotics education in Florida has been provided the services of a state-wide consultant with headquarters in the State Department of Education. The consultant is John Permenter, former principal of the Jupiter School, and author of a special bulletin on narcotics education which was published last year by the State Department. The services of Mr. Permenter will be incorporated as part of the state health instruction program under the supervision of Joe Hall. Teaching objectives will include promotion of personal health and fine character on the part of Florida boys and girls; presentation of practical, scientific information on the subject of alcoholic drinks; development of understanding of the seriousness of the drinking problem; changing of the youthful impression that drinking is clever, and fortifying young persons with intelligence concerning narcotics.
Drum Strippers Are Arrested
Four strip teasers, who have been shedding their clothes for the edification of customers at The Drum, Coral Way night club, ran afoul of the law Monday night when they were arrested by Miami vice squad officers for indecent exposure. With their "G-strings" tucked into a match box for evidence, Crystal Ames, Barbara Doane, Jaileta and Hildegard Brolch were released in the custody of their attorney, Jack Kehoe.
Inside Chimney More Economical
In planning a low-cost house, the Federal Housing Administration suggests that unless the building budget will permit construction of a chimney of good proportion in relation to the size of the house, it is desirable and often more economical to use an inside chimney. Chimneys containing one or two flues and built of minimum size are too tall and narrow for good exterior appearance and when built on gable ends have the effect of dividing the house in two parts, thus destroying its unity and the effective appearance of width. The average selectee going through the Reception Center at Camp Blanding takes out a $3,000 life insurance policy.
