Country Club of Coral Gables to Stage Last Informal Dance of Season Saturday

Gablesgrams

By HELEN REYNOLDS Whether you don slacks and dance at the Country Club of Coral Gables tomorrow night, or whether you go more "formal" and appear in "China" silks at the Miami Biltmore Country Club, both clubs guarantee a grand time to its members. At the Biltmore it will be the first of the fall parties, entitled Chinese-a sort of postponed Labor Day jamboree. Events begin at about 2 P. M. and include gold, bridge, children's party (box lunch, field events, pingpong) and dinner dance around the pool deck at 7 for the grownups. Country Club of Coral Gables will be enjoying the last of summer "let-your-hair-down" parties, and judging from the size of the crowd attending the last affair, this one will be a sellout. The hours are from 10 to 2. Mr. and Mrs. J. Allen Brown are chairmen for the Biltmore party. They promise Manny Gates and his orchestra for dancing on the deck between the two pools and dinner served from tables around the pool. * * * Mr. and Mrs. James Macfarlane have returned to their home, 1709 Granada Boulevard, from Havana, Cuba, and were more than glad to come back to beautiful Coral Gables. They have just spent the past two months there, visiting friends and renewing acquaintances in the vicinity in which they lived for seventeen years. . . . Dr. and Mrs. C. H. Neill and sons, Jim and Gene, have returned to their home on Segovia Circle, after an extended vacation spent in the North. While in North Carolina, Dr. and Mrs. Neill were guests at Woodfield Inn, near Hendersonville, while the boys were at Chimney Rock Camp. Later they were the guests of Mrs. Neill's parents near Fairmont, W. Va. * * * Miss Eleanor Hall has returned to her home in Baltimore after a visit with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Hall, 29 Avenue Oviedo. . . . Mr and Mrs. Dana McLendon are at home again in their apartment, 902 Salzedo Street, after spending the entire summer in South Carolina. Mrs. McLendon, this year's president of the Junior Woman's Club, was at the home of her mother in Beaufort, while her husband worked for and received his master's degree at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He is head coach at Ponce de Leon High School. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Don Jackson, who were married June 7 in Detroit, have just arrived to make Coral Gables their home and have taken an apartment at Biltmore Hall. As the former Miss Barbara Ann Dolsen, Mrs. Jackson has many friends who will welcome her back to the Gables to live. She is the daughter of Mrs. Frank Pond and Mr. Pond, 810 Avenue Cadima. Mr. Jackson is Florida representative of the Pioneer Suspender Company. . . . Miss Lois Dolsen, another daughter of Ponds', is visiting in Detroit. * * * Miss Denise Renuart will leave next week to complete her senior year at St. Mary's in the Wood at Terre Haute, Ind. Victor Renuart left Wednesday for Mobile, Ala., where he will enter Springhill College. Victor graduated in June from St. Theresa's High School . . . Miss Anne Owens of Windsor Point, Norfolk, Va., is the guest of Miss Mary Louise Lewis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Lewis, 1545 Murcia Avenue. She attends Miss Turnbull's School in Norfolk. Miss Wynne-Colee Poe and Miss Jane Drane will leave today for Gainesville, Ga Lois and Jean will return to Brenau College, and Wayne, who was graduated last June, will attend "rush" week only. The girls are Alpha Delta Phi's. * * * Mrs. Frank Cady, who honored former Mayor and Mrs. Roscoe Brunstetter at dinner Wednesday night, will leave soon for Philadelphia and a two-weeks, visit with Mrs. Bernard Heathcote . . . Dr. Roy T. Bovard entertained aboard his cruiser Sunday honoring his sister, Mrs. R. L. Ricketts, who was celebrating her birthday anniversary. Guests included Mr. Ricketts (Eastern Airlines), his mother, Mrs. R. W. Ricketts of New Castle, Ky., here for a visit, and Miss Elizabeth (Diddy) Ricketts. Mrs. Ricketts and "Diddy" returned Saturday from New Castle, where they spent six weeks. * * * Most fun Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Dacey, 608 Avenue Esteban, had on their recent vacation trip was "bicycling" on the beach at Daytona Beach. Mrs. Dacey says bicycles for hire are quite the thing at Daytona, and that for 25 cents an hour one could ride for ten miles-no traffic, no "dust." The Daceys spent two weeks combining business and pleasure in Washington, D. C. * * * Mrs. Clarence Wadsworth Francis, 1409 Avenue Medina, left Wednesday for a two-months' stay in the East. She will visit Mrs. Thomas Potter, Jr., in Germantown, Pa., then Atlantic City, Seneca Falls, N. Y., Skytop, Pocono Mountains, Syracuse, and visit her niece, Miss Clara Lee Curry, of Albany, who was her recent guest. . . Judge and Mrs. Harry Denham have returned to their apartment at the Casa Loma Hotel . . . Dr. and Mrs. W. H. McMasters are returning next week to their home, 824 Genoa Street, after a summer in New York City, where Dr. McMasters took some work at Union Seminary. At present he is attending the Conference on Human Affairs at Williamstown, Mass. * * * Mrs. Whiting Paine recently came into her own when she broadcasted over the N. B. C. chain in Atlantic City from Station WFPG, for she talked about health and gardening, a subject on which she is an authority. Mrs. Paine writes that she gave Coral Gables a "grand bit of publicity" during her talk and has already been interviewed by one firm for sales talks this winter in Florida. Mrs. Paine will be leaving next week for Washington and a visit with her daughter, Mrs. John L. Hamilton. * * * Mrs. Ann Nicholson writes from Provincetown, Mass., where she is vacationing with her daughter, that she is homesick for Coral Gables. They'll be returning the fifteenth to their home, 123 Avenue Sarto . . . Mrs. R. M. Greene, 1036 South Greenway Drive, writes from the Greene Ranch, Estes Park, Colo., how cool? it is . . . Mrs. John Sullivan and Ruth and John, Jr., have returned from a summer spent in the Carolina mountains.

Mrs. Graham Place chose cool-looking seashell place-cards attached to tiny corsages of real flowers as favors for the luncheon she gave Wednesday at the Country Club of Coral Gables. The party complimented Miss Yvonne Cates, who arrived Saturday from Mathews, Va., to spend a week with her sister, Mrs. Place. She will leave Friday for Havana, where she will spend two weeks. Twenty guests were placed about the table in the patio, where jonquils and a centerpiece of zinnias and gladioli was used.
