In the Women's World

For those girls who are planning a quite wedding, we recommend this simple black crepe frock relieved by deep white lace cuffs and matching hat. The cuffs on the full sleeves are easily removed for laundering. (Charles Cooper Original.)

Elegant simplicity describes perfectly this evening ensemble. Hollywood "first nights" finds cutting a chic rather than spectacular figure in a black crepe dinner gown dotted with gold paillettes. The mink collarless cape with new rounded shoulders is styled for both evening and daytime wear.

In the Spanish manner is this styling of this formal frock for midwinter wear. The sequin tunic is worn over a sheath-like crepe skirt, and a lace trimmed mantilla. Tunics like this cue the height of tall girls and conceal a bit too big posterior.

Turkey Leftover Wears A Disguise With Grace

By PHILLIP LEWIS What are you going to do with the left-over turkey? The post holiday season is a good time to tighten up on the purse strings and make efficient use of the New Year's dinner left-overs. Here are a few choice recipes which may help you to disguise the bird and at the same time tempt your family's appetite! Turkey Pot Pie Cut the remainder of Turkey in pieces suitable to your size. Make a cream sauce using half milk and half gravy from left over turkey only. Do not cook cream sauce to total thickness. Put pieces of turkey into cream sauce, season with salt and pepper. Place on the stove to keep warm if you make it ahead of time. Put turkey in casserole and place biscuits on top. Bake in oven, 475 degrees for 15 minutes. Biscuits 2 cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder Pinch of salt 1/2 cup butter 1 egg 1/2 cup milk Sift dry ingredients, cut in butter, add egg and milk, roll out 1/2 thick, cut with floured biscuit cutter. Cold Pyramid of Turkey Take a part of all of left over turkey, put it in a pot, add a little stock or clear soup, salt and pepper, and a bay leaf, and simmer from 1/2 to one hour. Let it stand in pot to get cold. When cold, form into the shape of a half egg or the shape of a large tablespoon. Tchat slices of bread. Put a slice of tomato on top, and then spoon shaped turkey. Pour a light mayonnaise made by whipping a little heavy cream mixed with mayonnaise in the proportion of 1-3 mayonnaise and 2-3 whipped cream. Sprinkle a few capers on top and a dash of paprika. Serve with fresh vegetable salad mixed with French Dressing. This is a fine luncheon dish. Turkey Ragonet Fry some onions and green pepper in butter until lightly brown, add cut turkey and let cook about 20 minutes, shaking pan occasionally so as not to break pieces of turkey. Set pan on one side. Peel, cut and boil some new carrots until done, add to turkey. Make a light cream sauce, pour over turkey, color with kitchen bouquet a nice deep brown, add one or two bay leaves and a few whole peppers tied in a piece of cloth and simmer for 1/2 hour. Remove bag, season with salt and pepper and a dash of A1 Sauce. Serve with boiled potatoes. A grated onion or some onion juice added to these recipes will give them additional flavor. Stuffed Tomatoes With Turkey Scoop out the center of some nice ripe tomatoes, being careful not to pierce the skin; fill with minced turkey. Put scooped out pieces of tomatoes in pot, add 1 can of tomatoes to it and 1/2 cup washed rice. Cook slowly until rice is done. Put stuffed tomatoes in small baking pan. Pour tomatoe and rice over and season with salt and pepper. Cook until tomatoes are soft, about 15 minutes.

Diary of a Beauty Authority

By HELENA RUBENSTEIN (This week the noted beauty expert explains how to achieve striking beauty by use of individualistic coiffure.) NEW YORK-There's a New Year just ahead of us, and it's a very good time for every woman, who has been neglecting herself to draw up a little set of beauty resolutions for herself. In the coming year, we women will be assuming a significant part in the national defense program, and as our activities widen and our responsibilities increase, it will be more important than ever for us to look our best and keep fit so that we will be equal to the task. For when we know that we look well, we can do a better job. These are the beauty resolutions which every American woman should keep in mind-and act upon for 1942: 1. Resolved that I will restore myself to normal weight. If I am overweight, I will reduce. If I am underweight, I will build myself up by eating the right quantity of food, with plenty of fruit and vegetable juices. 2. Resolved that I will learn to walk easily and gracefully; to sit down naturally: to stand as if relaxed; to take postures that have charm and ease of manner, instead of awkward, grotesque and jerky movements that lack coordination, not only for the sake of my own appearance bnt also because correct movements will keep me from tiring easily on my defense job. 3. Resolved that I will relax completely while resting or sleeping, so that my mind as well as my body is in repose. Learning to relax is a mental achievement a triumph of mind over matter, and can be accomplished if I try. 4. Resolved that I will find the most effective and becoming ways of fixing my face and hair, and that I will do both thoroughly each time I dress or make-up. The rest of the time, I will have the courage to let my face and hair alone. 5. Resolved that I will spend 10 minutes daily on simple skin care, thus assuring myself that I will always have a lovely, youthful skin. I will remember that one ounce of prevention is worth ten pounds of cure in beauty. I will not go to bed with my make-up on and I will keep in mind that the two basic principles of beauty care for every woman and every age are: cleansing and lubricating. 6. Resolved that I will give my body a straight spine; a raised bust; a flat abdomen; squared shoulders; a proud neck line; and a slender proportioned silhouette with exercises which stretch and mold the figure into better contours. 7. Resolved that I will make a fetish of femininity; of cleanliness and daintiness, because that is one of women's most important functions in life since time immemorial. I will remember that styles may come and go, but women will always stand for charm and daintiness. 8. Resolved that I will cultivate a soft, pleasing voice and beautiful gestures. I know that many a beautiful woman becomes unattractive as soon as she speaks, because if her voice jars the ears, she is a dissapointment. A lovely woman must appeal to all the senses. 9. Resolved that I will be polite and courteous, whether at home or at work. I will keep in mind that nagging carves wrinkles and droopy lines in the face more quickly than sulky, glum expressions and that bossy attitudes soon give the mouth a mean, tight look. And I will want a cheerful, pleasant expression on my face during the coming year to greet my own and others' morale. 10. Resolved that I will radiate sex appeal. I realize that at age of 6 or 60, women either have a magnetic charm that draws people-especially men-towards them, or they haven't; and that, if not, it can be acquired with an understanding of beauty. Please remember that to keep these resolutions, you must think of them throughout all your waking hours, but the reward will be well worth your effort, for you will be not only better women but also better Americans!

Biltmore Briefs

By MILTON CHAPMAN Here it is the second day of the year 1942 and I sincerely hope that the succeeding 363 days will bring peace and happiness to us all. We, at the Miami Biltmore, saw the new year come in with gaiety and high hopes and trust that everyone observed the occasion in a similiar manner. Certainly we here in Florida are considerably more fortunate than our brethren on the West Coast. The other day I was talking with a guest who had just come in from California, where she experienced two blackouts. One of these was in Los Angeles. She was driving along the famous Wilshire Boulevard during the early evening hour of 8 o'clock, when the sirens began to howl. Pulling over to the curbing at the direction of one of the air raid wardens, the woman and another lady who was with her, were forced to sit in the car until the "all clear" was sounded at 11 p.m.-a course of three hours! And she said that the sitting was all the more uncomfortable because the weather was damp and chilly and there was no heater in the car. While the blackout was announced as a practice session, after inquiries revealed that unknown planes were flying at a great distance above the city at the time. Their identity could not be determined, she said. The second blackout, in Pasadena, was only a few minutes' duration, she said, and was not altogether inconvenient. How ever, she is exceedingly happy to be here in Coral Gables where the full effect of the conflict has not yet been experienced. Spectacular showmanship was again displayed by Alexander Ott, impressario of the pool shows at the Miami Biltmore for the past 10 years, when he inaugurated the season last week. An overflow crowd descended upon the pool for the opening performance, indicating a busy season is in store. Following the pool show, which will be presented every Sunday afternoon from now on at 3 o'clock, a happy throng stayed for tea dancing in our attractive Palm Patio, another Sunday feature which will continue throughout the season. All of the guests with whom I have talked, speak highly of Coral Gables and are agreed it is the grandest place to be. Who would dispute them?

The American Red Cross needs 100,000 sweaters for the men in America's defense army.
