Drive on Business Planned Office Space Here Offered to Firms Ousted in Miami

Plans for bringing new business firms to Coral Gables, because of crowded conditions in Miami, and to induce families of Army and Navy personnel to locate here were discussed yesterday at a luncheon at the Chamber of Commerce Building. Denis Renuart, president of the Chamber, who acted as host, explained that Coral Gables has a wonderful opportunity to bring both businesses and residents here, now that so many military agencies are locating in Miami. George K. Zain, owner of several business buildings in Coral Gables, outlined a long-range program for Coral Gables improvements, which was endorsed by the business people at the meeting. Zain said that in addition to getting new businesses and residents here through an intensive advertising program, the residents and business people should conduct a clean-up campaign, designed to eliminate unsightly vacant lots in the business areas and to beautify the vacant spaces. He also suggested a campaign to induce home owners to acquire vacant lots next to their properties, and beautify them. He said that the Coral Gables Garden Club might sponsor a home beautification contest, with prizes being offered for the residences showing the most improvement. Committees to carry out the various phases of the program will be appointed when directors of the Chamber of Commerce meet next Wednesday evening.

Gables Youth To Say First Mass June 7

The Rev. Ronald Anthony Beaton, C. P., son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Beaton, 508 Avenue Minorca, will celebrate his first mass at the Church of the Little Flower Sunday, June 7, at 10 A. M. Father Beaton will be remembered by his many friends in Coral Gables and Miami as the former Finley Beaton. He was the first Coral Gables boy to graduate from the elementary department of St. Joseph's Academy, now St. Theresa's School. He attended high school there for two years and then transferred to Miami Senior High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from there in 1930. He attended the University of Miami for two years and was a member of the Pi Chi (now Sigma Chi) Fraternity. While a student at the University, he represented the Lions Club at their national convention in Los Angeles, Cal. In 1933 he left college to join the Congregation of Passionist Fathers in Union City, New Jersey. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Beaton, who left to attend the ordination of their son in Newark, N. J., on May 30, will return with him to Coral Gables. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Beaton, St. Petersburg, brother and sister-in-law of the priest, will also attend the ordination. Members of the Sigma Chi Fraternity of the University of Miami will attend his first mass in a body that morning. Out-of-town guests coming for a family reunion in Coral Gables are: Mr. and Mrs. William J. Beaton of Hollywood, Cal., and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald (Turn to Page 8)
