Moredock Heads Cancer Division
A prominent Coral Gables business leader, Howe E. Moredock Jr., will head the industrial division campaign of the Dade County Chapter, American Cancer Society. The appointment was announced by James A. Ryder, who last week accepted the general chairmanship for 1961 from Dr. Donald W. Smith, Dade president of ACS. Moredock has for six years been president of the Howe E. Moredock Co., largest international motor truck dealer in the United States. He heads or is a director in a number of state-wide businesses and was in Jacksonville for 20 years before coming to Miami 15 years ago. He resides with Mrs. Moredock and three children at 3705 Alhambra Circle. A native of Virginia, Moredock has degrees in business administration and law from the University of Florida. He is past president of the Citizens Board, University of Miami; member of the Orange Bowl Committee; director of Miami Dade Chamber of Commerce and is president of the Florida Chapter of National Young Presidents.
Cab Drivers Are Charged
Four cases of operating taxi without licenses netted one conviction in Coral Gables Municipal Court last week. Miguel Barcia, 33, of 310 West 34th St., Hialeah, was fined a total of $55 by Judge Charles Spooner. The cases against the other three drivers were nolle prossed -prosecution was dropped.
Pit Torn Down To Free Boy
A six-year-old Coral Gables boy became wedged so tight in a barbecue pit Saturday that the pit had to be partially torn down to get him out. It took Firemen Robert L. Bunting and Jerome S. Kirk and Policemen Lamar Gilbert and Glenn D. Arp nearly an hour to get David Reese, 2901 DeSoto Blvd, free. Young Reese was playing in the back yard at 1042 Catalonia when he got jammed in the barbecue pit chimney shortly before 6. It was nearly 7 p.m. before he was released.
