by HELEN REYNOLDS A capacity audience thrilled to the music of the University of Miami Symphony Orchestra Monday night, wrapped in blankets, furs, laprobes, even "earmuffs". But the cold, (it was about 60 in orchestra hall) neither spoiled the magnificent performance of Igor Gorin, baritone soloist, nor the equally magnificent performance of the orchestra, who, as one Gables' regular remarked, "seems to come to life" under the magic hands of John Bitter, conductor... And now we hear that more honors and publicity will be accorded the orchestra and Mr. Bitters when, on the night of March 24th, (regular subscribers' series night) the orchestra will be broadcast during the first hour, as part of the "Ford" hour with the noted Richard Crooks as soloist. Prettily appointed and entirely informal was the "coffee" given yesterday morning at eleven o'clock by Mrs. William L. Gray, Jr., honoring a group of mothers and daughters. The party especially honored Mrs. W. G. Russell, of Waco, Texas, mother of Mrs. J. Wylly Keck, of 2520 Avenue San Domingo. Mrs. Charles P. Myers of Chicago and Lake Wales, arrived yesterday for her annual visit and is the house guest of Mrs. Vincent Wyman of 3621 Monserrate Street. Mrs. Myers will be widely entertained during her stay . . . Mrs. J. F. Hudock of Hazelton, Pa., who has been the house guest of Mrs. Grace Perry for several weeks planned to leave Monday for her home, but a letter informed her icicles five feet long were hanging from rooftops to say nothing of the ice underfoot. Mrs. Hudock who has been much feted during her stay will leave tomorrow... Mr. and Mrs. LeVan Lawfer, cousins of Mrs. Perry's and also her guests are spending a few days in Key West... Mr. and Mrs. Tom McGee, sister and brother-in-law of Mrs. Walter Pierce will arrive Sunday from Spartanburg, S. C. for a visit with the Pierces. Two important parties will take place on Washington's birthday which will assemble large groups of the social contingent of Coral Gables and Miami. Lee, Mrs. Rees Marshall, Jr., Mrs. Frank Morrow, Mrs. Mark Irwin and Mrs. S. Ernest Philpitt will assist... The second is the tea dance to which 400 guests have been bidden fom 5 to 7 at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Mr. and Mrs. John Claude Coppinger and Mr. and Mrs. William A. Lane are the hosts and have named as assistancts, Mrs. Guy A. Bennett, Mrs. H. B. Oliver, Mrs. Raymond Fisher, Mrs. J. P. Bradley, Mrs. Thornton Fincher, Mrs. W. T. Cox, Mrs. J. F. Weiss, Mrs. J. A. Rooney, Mrs. A. J. Carmichael, Mrs. A. H. Pullan, Mrs. J. Winthrop Proctor and Mrs. Roy J. Schneider. Mrs. James Macfarlane of 1709 Granada Boulevard honored Mrs. Grant Yetman, of Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, when she entertained at one in a series of small bridge luncheons. Mrs. Yetman is the guest of her niece, Mrs. Charles F. Flynn, 2103 Country Club Prado... Marriage culminated a romance of a week, when Miss Jane Walther of Wilmington, Del., became the bride of William E. Dayton, Feb. 6th at Ft. Lauderdale. The bride and groom have taken an apartment at 1499 Avenue Valencia and will have as their first house guest, the bride's mother, Mrs. Jean M. Walther of Wilmington, who will arrive soon to spend two weeks. Mr. Dayton is connected with the Huskamp Motor Company. Mr. and Mrs. John Norman were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Musser of Barnesboro, Pa., are the house guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. Ernest Philpitt. Mrs. Philpitt will entertain at the first of a series of parties on Saturday for the guests who will be widely entertained during their stay. Miss Jenkins, Mrs. Philpitt's sister will remain all winter. Mrs. A. H. Gleason will entertain at a bridge-luncheon for 32 guests today at her home on Columbus Boulevard.
