THRONGSPACK EL BOLERO Town Turns Out En Masse At Cocktail Bar Premiere

Capping a last-two-day flurry of frenzied painting and carpentry, The area's newest nitery made its bow to a throng of enthusiastic first-nighters Tuesday night. From Tamiami Trail to Tahiti Beach, Gableites left home and braved sloppy rain-swept streets to usher in what promises to be a top spot in after-dark popularity. Charlie, genial pilot of El Bolero, expressed a happy satisfaction with his opening night. "Why, we even had people drop in from as far as Palm Beach," he said. "While I'm not really interested in out-of-town patrons as I am with Gables people, it's still mighty fine to know there was enough interest to bring them so far." Comments overheard during the evening augured well for the future of El Bolero. It was obvious and unanimous that El Bolero is the handsomest room of its kind in the Greater Miami area, regardless of size or cost. Actually, no expense was spared in decorating the place. Walter Hase, who has decorated the Carrousel here and many fine night clubs in New York and other cities in the north, designed the interior. The lavish use of color is accented by a beautiful mural, depicting a valley village in Mexico, with mountain peaks fading into the distant sky. But far more interesting than the handsome surroundings in El Bolero is the policy Charlie has outlined for the club. The prices for drinks (and they're really a surprise, they're so low) are not going to vary with the seasons. El Bolero, instead of hunting for tourist trade at highwayman's prices, is planning on making El Bolero a spot for Gableites, where people can afford to come and enjoy an evening in a restful, eye-soothing atmosphere. The people who worked on the the building and supplying of El Bolero deserve credit for the fine job their joint efforts have produced. The Acolite sign firm has done some spectacular neon work, which does a lot for the exterior of the boite. Babcock-Lamont were tremendously successful in carrying out the beautiful, yet functional design of the building, which was planned by Architects Wolfe and Martin. Decorators Among First-Nighters Walter Hase and Henry Gillette, who decorated El Bolero, enjoy themselves with the first-night celebrants, trying on a pair of the Mexican sombreros that fit into the decorative scheme. Henry Gillette, who worked with Walter Hase on the interior can take a well-earned bow for the furnishings he has put into the room. Designed by Custombilt, Inc., the fixtures do a lot to achieve the warm personality which pervades the entire establishment. The Standard Wine and Spirits people, who feature Carta Blanca Beer, furnish the liquors which Charlie passes on to you at his amazing prices.
