by HELEN REYNOLDS With Easter just around the corner, entertaining takes on new interest, for Easter spells Spring and with Spring the "big" season with its elaborate parties is at an end. Then we settle down to home parties, make plans for the summer, heed the beckoning of the Carolina mountains and knit for the soldiers ... As a farewell jesture to her many hostesses, Mrs. Clara Walker, of Waco, Texas, the much feted guest of Mrs. M. C. Taylor will entertain at a large bridge luncheon Tuesday at the Whiteman Hotel. Mrs. S. Earnest Philpitt will entertain about 40 at luncheon and bridge Thursday at the Cromwell Hotel, and on Wednesday Mrs. Louie Lanford will have about 60 for a buffet luncheon and bridge at her home 4401 Palmarito Street, for Mrs. Walker. Mrs. John Ashton Hilton of 820 Avenue Anastasia has issued invitations for bridge and luncheon at 1 p. m. Easter Monday at the Whitman, Miami Beach. Miss Betty Batcheller has arrived home from Wesleyan College, Macon, Ga., to spend the spring holiday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. George Batcheller on Sunset Road. She has invited about 50 of her Coral Gables friends in to tea from 4 until 6 today to meet three of her classmates, Miss Lelia Hernondon of Columbia, S. C.; Miss Catherine Toney and Miss Sara Glover of Camden, Ga., who arrived by plane and train yesterday to be her house guests. Walter Raymond Smith father of Mrs. R. A. Crandall, 625 N. Greenway, has returned to his home in Syracuse, N. Y., after spending his annual two weeks vacation with his daughter and family ... Dr. and Mrs. Homer Bull of Genereo N. Y., were the week end guests of Dr. and Mrs. J. Kenneth Cole of Avenue Durango ... Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wolf are leaving Monday for their summer home in Otterbein, Ill., ... Mrs. Robert Pentland, Sr., returned home Monday after a month's visit in Jacksonville and Palatka, where she attended the state meeting of the British Daughters. Mrs. Pentland enjoyed a trip through the largest cypress mill in the world as well as a visit to the Azelea Gardens while in Palatka. When Dr. and Mrs. Reid Bronson asked Upton Ewing, known hereabouts for his Colonial designed houses to design something entirely different for their new home at 918 Avenue Calbira, the result was the rambling one story Mexican house which is so new and different that winter visitors are for ever stopping to ask and gaze. In fact, pretty Mrs. Bronson laughed, a man one day a car drew up and out stepped a man who set up an easel and calmly set about sketching the place. Perhaps it is the lazy Mexican scene, Mr. Ewing has executed in outline in wrought iron, to color up a large window screen, or the paved antique brick oval court yard in front with low wall and fountain well that intrigues them. Perhaps it is the hospitable Mexican patio in the shaded green framing the roof of the gallery leading to the front door. Once inside, however, modern comfort is apparent. Stone slabs cover the floors of the living, dining room and porch overlooking a walled garden. Three large bedrooms in separate wings are reached through rambling arched passage ways. Then there is the added attraction of a large barbecue fireplace in the garden for parties for the Bronson's young son and daughter, Miss Betty Bronson who has just returned to her studies at Penn Yan School in Pennsylvania. Miss Betty Green home from Duke University for her spring vacation was given a birthday dinner Friday evening at the home of her mother, Mrs. Carl Green, 307 Avenue Alcala. The party celebrates the 21st birthday of Betty who will graduate in June. Ten couples mostly Duke men and girls attended and danced on the terrace after supper ... Carl Green, Betty's brother arrived Saturday from Cornell accompanied by Jack Connell also a student at Cornell who will visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Connell, 1211 Avenue Castille. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fuchs served delicious spareribs and all the good things that go with them at the first of a series of planned summer parties last week when they entertained 40 guests at their home on 1101 Avenue Castile. Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Stacy were surrounded by family and friends on the 26th of March when they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Lewisburg, W. Va. A tiered wedding cake graced the board and fifty yellow-gold roses were presented to the lovely Mrs. Stacy. Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Bready, daughter and son-in-law of the Stacys and their daughter Virginia and "Chicapin" went up from Coral Gables for the party. Mr. and Mrs. Stacy lived for many years at their home on Granada Boulevard now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Mark Wilcox. No member of the Century Club can look back on the season just closed with more joy of giving pleasure to a lot of people than Albert H. Gleason and Mrs. Gleason. For the Gleasons, two of Coral Gables' most ardent party givers, entertain several hundred guests each season and have been doing it for years. Each of the member lectures and all of the dances found the hospitable Gleason home thronged with cocktail or dinner guests. Saturday night Mrs. Gleason brown paper bags half filled with sand and containing a lighted candle, marked the long passage to the front door for the last of this year's parties. In keeping with the times, Mrs. Gleason chose a patriotic color scheme for the cocktail buffet, wore a gown of white and over satin to receive her guests. White and blue candles and quantities of red sweetpeas in a hugh silver epernse centered the table. Mrs. Edward Goodrich wearing red served creme rumba. Mrs. S. J. Delanoy who presided at the coffee service wore white net. Mr. and Mrs. Clare Peter Johnson who have just come down from Washington for a short visit at their home on North Greenway Drive were observed renewing acquaintances. Mrs. Johnson wore a pretty gown of gray net and sequins. Miss Virginia Goodrich was robed in a dresden silk period style gown. There were 50 guests.
