Gables Women Rally to Red Cross Aid

The Coral Gables Surgical Dressing center of which Mrs. Charles J. Susong is supervisor, has completed 5,000 surgical dressings during the past week and half. Mrs. Susong says they have been swamped with workers since the publicity campaign broke over a week ago, and stated further, "I appreciate more than I can ever tell you, the response of the women of Coral Gables to our cries for help in this work. I know that when they realized the gravity of the situation, they would not let their community down." Next week a class for supervisors will be inaugurated. Although only ten women are needed to begin the class, fifteen have already volunteered. Mrs. Susong, who will give the course, would like at least twenty. Those who take and pass this course must be willing to spend at least two days a week in the workroom, supervising beginners in the making of the dressings. This past week ten women drove up from Homestead and the Redlands to spend a day making dressings in the workroom. They plan to devote one day a week in the Coral Gables unit until they can have a working center in that area. Two Coral Gables organizations are devoting one day a week as 'Organization Day' Tuesday of each week members of the Coral Gables chapter Daughters of the American Revolution work at the center as a group and Wednesday is 'group' day for the Women of St. Theresa's.
