FOR TERRACE GARDENERS,

this playsuit of light blue shorts-copied from farmer boys' overalls-and bright red shirt, is both attractive and sensible. Virginia Dwyer of Columbia network's "Joyce Jordon, Girl Interne" finds them comfortable and cool while setting out plants on a terrace at One Fifth Avenue. (From Lanz of Salzburg.)

dents, and are graded on a percentile basis. If a student makes a percentile of 90, it means that only 9 percent of the students in high schools in the United States do equally as well or better. 50 percent means that the child is average; that out of 150,000 other seniors in high schools, half do better and half do not do so well. 75 percent means that 25 percent do better, etc. Percentile ranks of 01 to 20 denote markedly inferior preparation and probably inability to succeed in college work; those of 80 to 99 denote excellent preparation. Ponce de Leon students are so high above the average state median, that it is worthy of commendation, according to Harry N. Rath, principal who here presents the averages, some contestants and their ratings. English-60% (10% above State average). Social Science-69% (19% above state average). The following points are illustrations of some of the uses that are being made of these tests: Serving as a partial basis for appraising the relative effectiveness of methods of instruction and as a general incentive toward improved teaching and learning. Affording a means of discovering the potentialities and achievements of each student and thereby identifying those individuals who merit special provisons because of distinct handicaps or markedly superior performances. Establishing uniform standards for admission and placement in college. The University of Florida has made these examinations compulsory for each of its entering freshmen. These tests have been given to over 150,000 high school stu-

Round Table May Answer Community House Problem

(Continued from Page One) is a matter to be decided between the City and the Government agency. If the controversy cannot be settled, the WPA has notified the city that the whole thing will be referred to the Department of Justice for consideration and possible action. In this event, the city faces the possibility of paying back the $30,000 contributed by the WPA. Curry has further stated that in return for the deed, the city is willing to repay the Woman's Club the money it donated, estimated with recent improvements to amount to approximately $16,-000, although the City Manager would like to check this figure by means of an audit of club books. In the meantime, Washington is sending another official in the near future to try to bring the matter to a head and an ultimate conclusion. The time of his arrival is not yet known. This is the problem, with its many ramifications, that the "five Solomons" will face when they meet as a non-partisan board on Monday. Gableites, looking to a speedy conclusion, are hoping that these five men have the solution that will untangle Coral Gables' complicated and troublesome "Gordian Knot."

Gables Girl Scouts Benefit From Contest

Coral Gables Girl Scout troops as well as the national Girl Scout organization are benefitting materially by the $27,500 Palmolive slogan contest which is now under way and will remain open for daily entries until June 27th. For every entry submitted by the public, the Colgate-Palm-olive-Peet Company-which is sponsoring the competition-is donating 1 cent to the National organization as well as an additional cent to the Coral Gables Girl Scout troop if same is specified on the entry blank. The Girl Scouts also will be recipients of a series of special cash awards set aside exclusively for them by the Palmolive Company. These will consist of a $500 first prize; thirty prizes of $50 each and 150 of $5 each, to be presented to 181 councils in order of their ranking and based on proportion of mentions to registrations. Duplicate prizes are provided for those councils that might be tied in the final tallies when the contest has officially ended. All of these Girl Scout awards are in addition to the daily $500 first prize and five $50 secondary prizes now being given away for the best slogans or statements regarding the efficacy of the product submitted by the general public. At the conclusion of this series of thirty daily contests, the name of the lucky winner of the $5,000 grand prize will be announced. Names of the daily winners of the $500 prizes and other helpful information for entering the contest are given over the Palmolive radio program, "The Story of Bess Johnson", broadcast Mondays through Fridays over the Columbia and NBC Red networks. Entry blanks may be obtained from any Palmolive dealer or Postal Telegraph office and contestants can submit as many statements a sthey desire daily until midnight, June 27th. Have you told your story to the home town folks?? If not, now's the time to tell it — via a well laid out advertisement in the Coral Gables Riviera. Keep posted —read the Riviera

Housewives Advised On How To Purchase A Cotton Blanket

As we enter the season when lighter bedcovers are needed, the Cotton-Textile Institute reminds us that cotton blankets are ideal for Summer use; shrink less than wool; are less expensive; wear longer. The Institute suggests that the following points be kept in mind when shopping for cotton blankets: 1. Test the durability of the nap by pulling at it gently. A good nap is held firmly in the blanket while a poor nap pulls out easily. 2. Choose the size carefully. For maximum comfort and longer wear, a blanket should be at least 10 inches longer and 18 inches wider than the mattress. For a single bed, the blanket should be at least 60x 84 inches, for a three-quarter bed, 66x84 inches; for a double bed, 72x84 inches. 3. Look at the binding. It should be of good quality and attached with two or three rows of stitching. The edges should be folded under and securely fastened. Cotton sateen binding usually wears longer than silk or rayon.

Draft Policy Will Continue At University

The University of Miami policy of expediting withdrawals from school of students who must interrupt their studies to serve in the armed forces of the United States will continue next year. This announcement came Tuesday from Dr. Jay F. W. Pearson, dean of administration, in answer to numerous inquiries by young men who plan to enroll in the university in September. Students whose studies are thus interrupted may either receive a temporary grade of "G," indicating that all required work has not been completed, or they may have their tuition fees refunded on a pro rata basis. After their period of service is over, those who prefer the first plan may re-enter classes at the point where they left. Those who receive pro rata tuition refunds may enter classes anew in the semester following their military service. Pro rata tuition refunds will continue to be made to conscripts regardless of just when in the semester they must leave school. Ordinarily, however, students who withdraw from the university cannot receive refunds after the ninth week of the term.
