by HELEN REYNOLDS Mrs. Enck Mrs. Schuyler C. Enck, of Harrisburg, Pa., will be honored Thursday by her daughter, Mrs. Ralph L. Engle 1207 Columbus Boulevard, at the first in a series of "koffee-klotches" Mrs. Engle plans for this spring. Dr. and Mrs. Enck have arrived to spend several weeks as is their annual custom. Mrs. Engle's next party will be on the 25th when both her mother and sister-in-law, Mrs. Schuyler Colfax Enck, Jr., will be honored. Dr. and Mrs. Enck and their daughter Marylyn will arrive the 14th from Harrisburg. Mrs. Engle will have thirty guests at each of the first two parties. Assisting at Thursday's party will be Mrs. Charles R. Gorton, Mrs. William Malone, Mrs. Charles Brand, Mrs. Nathan Whitfield, Mrs. N. W. Frost and Mrs. George Couper. Assisting at the second March koffee-klotch, at which Mrs. Kenneth Keys will sing, will be Mrs. S. Earl Giffin, Mrs. Jack Erneman, Mrs. Clifton Doll Benson, Mrs. Colfax Bowsher, and Mrs. Harry Rath. Mrs. R. H. McClelland who won first prize Tuesday at the regular weekly bridge tournament play at the Country Club of Coral Gables, had as guest Mrs. L. E. McKeand of Nashville, Tenn. The McKeands are house guests of the McClellands. Mrs. Graham Place won second prize and Mrs. Fay Morrison Brim was third winner. Mrs. C. G. Mead, Jr., had as guest Mrs. E. F. Sommers. The Meads, former Coral Gables residents, have returned and are residing at 501 Avenue Madiera. Mr. and Mrs. Sommers are also newcomers from Oakland, Cal. Both Mr. Mead, Jr., and Mr. Sommers are with Pan American Airways. Mrs. Frank J. Gould will entertain at a mother-daughter luncheon and bridge, Wednesday, honoring Mrs. Cecil Burnham of Chicago, who is visiting her mother. Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer of 1137 Alhambra Circle are entertaining a house party of northern guests including Mrs. Louise Apgar of Hoboken, N.J.; Mrs. Emma Kaas of the Bronx; Mr. and Mrs. John Warhol of Parkridge, N.J.; Mrs. Julia Warhol of Patterson, N.J.; and Mrs. Sam Johnston of Aliquippa, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer entertained for their guests and members of the American Legion Post of Coral Gables at an informal games and refreshment party Wednesday night. About 40 attended. We've heard of the hunches on how to pick a winner at the track, but it remained for Mrs. R. E. L. Spence, house guest of Mrs. J. D. Girtman who arrived recently from Albany, Ga., to use the one and only. When ever a horse named Robert E. Lee runs she bets, for those are her initials and R.E.L. always wins. "Robert E. Lee" ran last week at Hialeah and won. Newcomers to the Gables and tennis enthusiasts, playing daily on the Country Club courts are Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Brown who have taken the residence at 919 Granada boulevard. The Brown's have three attractive children, Harriet, 14; Henry, 12; and Alex, 4. Mr. Brown, a member of the Army and Navy Club, Washington, D.C. is a flyer with the Air Ferries, Inc. Alma Zeta Tau Alpha Alumnae were unexpectedly treated to a talk last night by Alma Sanchez, one of Coral Gables' outstanding business women and a nationally recognized hair stylist. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Homer Seepe, 320 Navarre, with Miss Mary Louise Walker president, presiding. Miss Sanchez, who leaves at noon today for New York, where she will attend a conference and be the only feminine member of a group of 12 outstanding hair stylists, entitled her talk, "Beauty as a Booster for Morale". She will visit Atlanta and Richmond, speaking before large groups before her return. The club will present its election slate for new officers, heard reports and was proud of its very first "army officer", Miss Jean Sandhamer's appointment. Lieut. Sandhamer, reported this week at Camp Blanding as an army nurse, received her training at Jackson Memorial Hospital. A. D. Barnes, county superintendent of public parks and a Coral Gables resident left Monday night for Charleston, S.C. where he will report for active duty to the U.S.A. Lieut. Barnes was in the reserves... George Girtman, son of the J. D. Girtman's, 1700 Le Jeune Road, has been advanced to staff sargeant in the finance department at Camp Bowie, Texas. Mrs. J. J. Hogarty of Lincoln Park, Ill., is the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Fauerbach of 547 Navarre. This is Mrs. Hogarty's first visit in 15 years and she is thrilled with the vast growth of the area. Elementary P.-T.A. board members were given a heart warming exhibition of cooperation and timing Monday as they witnessed an air warden and fire drill at the school. With a single roll of the drum, the entire school of 1,000 children was emptied in 1 1/4 minutes. Recalled, Miss Gilday again sounded the air warden siren and not a "child" could be found. The teachers and all were under their desks. Children in the first three grades near the auditorium walked quietly in there and lay down flat on the floor.
Cadets Enjoy "Break" Dance At Woman's Club Sunday Series
The fourth in the series of Cadet Tea Dances sponsored by the Coral Gables Woman's Club was held in the clubrooms Sunday afternoon with over one hundred guests in attendance. Mrs. G. G. Lee, chairman for the day, reports a very successful party with guests clamoring for future invitations. A high-light of the afternoon's festivities was Malcolm MacDonald who acted as master of ceremonies, calling dances and so on, and successfully "breaking the ice" for the young folks, most of whom were strangers to each other. Pouring at the tea table were Mrs. Coulton Skinner and Mrs. MacDonald. Also assisting Mrs. Lee were Mrs. L. C. Olson, Mrs. James Ammen, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hoover, Mrs. Howard Weenick, Mrs. Clyde Higgins, Mr. and Mrs. Coleman Jones, Miss Margaret Beaton Miss Helen DePamphilis, Mrs. J. H. Peebles and Mrs. John Campbell.
