Key Club, Cavallette Show Presents Ponce Talent

"Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" and pick me up for the Key Club-Cavallette Minstrel Show Friday night. Fun and singing and dancing will all be included under the show's appropriate title "Mix'ol'ogy", with a big time for all faithfully promised by the chairmen of the production, Fairfax Montague and Mary Jane Westerdahl. "Mix'ol'ogy" has been in the making for a month with the cast practicing every day afternoons or evenings. The large cast was chosen from the student body by talent tryouts and a draft method which selected students who had given performances of talent in some way before. The production will include a large mixed chorus, six end men, and interlocutor, a dance review, several specialty numbers and a giant military tableau with the Cavallettes, band and supporting performers. Committees in charge of the show are: walk committee, Fairfax Montague Jean Troteschel, Mary Jane Westerdahl, Eugene Shaw, Jack Booher and Dick Houston; tickets, Betty Ellis, Ann Gaby and Bob Wilcox; publicity, Bud Thue; costumes, Lareeta Cater and Leighton Peebles; continuity, Jack Booher, Jean Troetschel and Roger Carlson. Interlocutor is to be G. D. Twitty and the end men will include Hayes Wood, Bill Byrd, Dick Houston, Jimmy Shaw and Kenny Yarborough. Faculty sponsors are Mr. Edward Vose and Mrs. Catharine Sample.

Merry-makers for the Mix'ology minstrel are pictured above. Reading from left to right are endman Dick "Tambo" Houston, interlocutor G. D. Twitty and endman Bill "Bones" Byrd.

Long Season For Florida

"Florida's tourist season will continue long after easter," predicts Earl W. Brown, manager of Florida National Exhibits, in charge of the exhibit being shown currently at the National Sportsmen's Show in the Grand Central Palace, New York. "Every day hundreds of people come up to ask the information desk in our exhibit to ask about Florida saying that they are planning to leave for there within a few weeks. While the tire shortage has undeniably affected travel to Florida more people are traveling by train, bus or plane. These transportation mediums are so crowded that through passage on any of them must be booked several weeks ahead. "The exhibit of Florida's attractions was shown to 163,000 people at the New England Sportsmen's Show in Boston and is now being seen by about 30,000 a day at the National Sportsmen's Show in New York. "The attendance at these shows consists largely of business men and sportsmen and 90 percent of them are interested in Florida either as a place to retire and live permanently or for a vacation of hunting and fishing.

Faber Turns To Serious In New Play

A new adaptation of the old theme of the frustrated woman was presented to Gables playgoers Wednesday when the Fiffteen opened Charles Faber's "Miracle of Spring" at the Douglas Entrance playhouse. The local playwright's new opus departs from the usual pattern of his earlier successes, in that it leans more toward the heavy drama, whereas his other works followed a much lighter vein. As presented, Joanna, played by Barbara Parmley, who married for money and position rather than love seeks to find the satisfaction of her frustrated desires in a world-famous European writer who is now a refugee in this country. The latter role is portrayed by Frank Rollinger. As she vainly seeks consummation of her cravings, Irene, her daughter, finds herself in the same position of choosing between a young artist whom she loves and another man of money and position. The arrival of John's former lover, her husband's brother, further complicates the plot. Faber has treated his subject well and as a result the play reveals itself as the work of an experienced playright. If the finger of criticism can be pointed at any particular thing, it might be said that some of the passages are a bit wordy, the remedy calling only for judicious use of the blue pencil. Mary Green, as Else, the devoted wife of the writer carries the leading role and a difficult Austrian accent with grace and ease. Rollinger as Franz is convincing and Janet Cole as Irene, who sees her mother's reflection in her own life before it is too late, again predicts a successful future for herself. Miss Parmley as the egocentric Julia carries the difficult part with her usual capable acting. Willard Thompson as Griffith, the returning "black sheep" brother proves that he is not the perennial juvenile and is capable of more mature roles. James Crow gives a sympathetic portrayal of Roger, husband of Julia while Princeton Aggar gives youthful zeal to Nick Warren, the rising young artist who captures the heart and hand of Irene. Robroy Farquhar again assumes additional years as Lionel, the butler. In our opinion, one of the most important contributions of the play is the thought that the holocaust in Europe is causing a shift in the cultural center of the world to the United States which will endure for generations to come. The play will be held over an additional week. —JBM

SERVICE GUIDE OF CAREFULLY SELECTED :: :: RELIABLE BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTIONS Cray & Daino Firm Optimists on Gables

When the firm of Cray and Daino, Realtors, was organized in 1936 they located their offices on the second floor of the Terminal building on Ponce de Leon Boulevard. The members of the firm were D. A. Gray who had had many years of experience as a banker, and A. J. Daino, who was equally experienced as a successful construction engineer. The talents and backgrounds of the partners were ideally suited for the many ramifications of the real estate business, and so successful were they in their joint venture that larger quarters became a necessity. In 1939 they arranged for extensive quarters in the Post Office building and have occupied this location since that time. Associated with company at this time are A. B. Smith, Earl Warde and W. Chilton Day, all well-known citizens who are thoroughly familiar with every phase of the real estate business in Coral Gables. Cray and Daino operate in every field of the real estate business, including the sale of houses, lots, buildings and rentals. They also have a department of business management for looking after homes and estates for absentee owners, and for collecting rentals for such clients as well as for local residents. Mr. Cray said yesterday that his firm is very optimistic over the future of Coral Gables since it offers the most delightful and sound reasons for permanent residents and for thus to come here and to invest surplus capital in the community.
