Net Title To Ponce Courtmen

Winning their eighth consecutive match from the highly rated West Palm Beach squad, the Ponce tennis team became champions of the Southeast District High School Tennis League, and thus became one of the leading contenders for the state title. It was the first time in ten years that Ponce has come out on top in a match with the up-state school, and broke up a string of 25 consecutive victories that West Palm Beach had amassed. The W. P. B. boys went down fighting as they lost to the Cavaliers by the close count of 4 to 3. Ponce got off to an unfortunately bad start, as No. 1 Man Bobby Paige bowed out to Gus Peeples 6-4, 9-7. Ben Boesch of Ponce, in the No. 2 spot, was hard pressed in his singles match, but finally managed to come through and take Arthur Leavitt, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Don Miller of the Cavaliers had very little trouble with Bobby Sprawl as he took him into camp 6-2, 6-1, and Sammy Daniels of Ponce downed Bob Nora 10-8, 6-1. Bob Lowenhauf won W. P. B.'s only other singles match as he rode over Bobby Lee 6-4, 6-3. That wound up the singles competition with Ponce leading 3 to 2. But the future looked dark indeed, as Ponce lost the first doubles match, when Paige and Miller were out-stroked by Peeples and Sprawl, 6-2, 6-2, and the score was tied 3 to 3. Settling down to the serious work ahead of them, Boesch and Daniels played bang-up tennis, to pull the vital match out of the fire and win the second of the doubles match over Leiboirt and Nora down the line 6-3, 6-3. This victory gave the match and championship title to the Ponce Cavaliers. Mr. Edward Vose, faculty sponsor of the team, stated Monday that he was of the opinion that the boys certainly deserved major letters for their efforts, and he believed that the full-sized letters would be awarded. Mr. Vose also pointed out that Ben Boesch and Sam Daniels have gone the entire season without a defeat and the team as a whole has won 52 out of 56 individual matches in their timetable, winning 8 out of 8 team matches.

J. D. REDD Candidate for Re-election as County Commissioner (Fifth District)

ATTENTION!

We earnestly solicit your vote for the re-election of G. A. Worley as your State Attorney. Many of you Coral Gableites will remember the big robbery of Harry Content and Mrs .Bell at the Miami Biltmore, involving $250,000 worth of jewels, in which case Mr. Worley prosecuted and convicted two defendants for this crime. Mr. Worley has also prosecuted many other cases, such as the Cash kidnapping case, in which Franklin McCall was tried, convicted and paid the extreme penalty; the Frazell McLaren case, in which McLaren was tried, convicted and paid the extreme penalty for the killing of your police sergeant H. C. Barton; the Byrdl Hudgins case in which he was tried, convicted and sentenced to the electric chair for the brutal slaying of State Highway Patrolman L. P. Daniels. These are only a few of the cases that would be of extreme interest to Coral Gables residents and the south end of Dade County. MR. WORLEY HAS OBTAINED JUDGMENTS FOR $91,554.73 AND ACTUALLY COLLECTED FOR THE TREASURY OF THIS COUNTY $65,117.32 SINCE HE HAS BEEN IN OFFICE. ALL THESE FACTS, AND MANY OTHERS, ARE A MATTER OF RECORD. When you vote for C. A. Worley you retain two Coral Gables residents: Joseph Otto, Mr. Worley's assistant, living for 13 years in Coral Gables and owning his home at 419 Avenue Navarre, and I. R. (RAY) Mills, Mr. Worley's investigator, former lieutenant of the Coral Gables Fire Department and police officer in Coral Gables for many years, residing and owning his home at 2601 San Domingo Street.
