PUSH GABLES AS SITE FOR MILITARY HOSPITAL TO HOUSE WOUNDED DR. COLE CONSULTS WITH U. S. SURGEON GENERAL; LIONS BACK CAMPAIGN

A campaign to bring to Coral Gables a vast hospital unit for the care of recuperating members of the armed forces was launched here this week. Spearhead of the drive was Dr. Kenneth Cole, who has been in consultation with Surgeon-General Thomas Parran and with Congressman Pat Cannin to the end of bringing the recuperative unit to this city. The Coral Gables Lions Club this week got behind the drive to give Florida's health to the wounded veterans. Will Reynolds, president of the club, named Dr. Cole chairman of a committee to promote the project. Others named to the committee were Dr. Glenn Clapp, Gables optometrist; A. L. Lancaster, owner of the Coral Gables Laundry, and Albert E. Harum, publisher of the Coral Gables Riviera. According to those backing the proposal, a veteran's hospital unit in Coral Gables will serve the double purpose of providing the best in health restoration facilities to the soldiers and sailors and bring a much needed impetus to local enterprise. It was pointed out that after the last war there was a definite deficiency of hosiptalization and that we, in civilian life, must plan now so that there will be no such lack now. Availability of hotels and buildings in Coral Gables which could easily be converted to a recuperative hospital unit also was cited by the backers of the plan. Speaker at this week's meeting of the Lions was the Rev. Ladislaw Biro, pastor of the University Baptist Church, who urged a return to Christ and brotherliness in order to avoid future world conflicts.

Hopkins' Kin Held by F.B.I.

Richard Hopkins Aimes, 22-year-old student and nephew of Harry Hopkins, is being held by F.B.I. officers here after being arrested by Gables police, it was revealed yesterday. Ames was picked up on suspicion by officers Harry Bell and Zomps Selznick, when they found him parked in a car on Ponce de Leon Boulevard. Investigation revealed that he had rented the car in Connecticut and fled to Florida, leaving several bad check charges in his wake.
