Riviera Country Club Social Program in Full Swing
Lady Golfers to Elect New Slate; Fashion Buffet Set
Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but the fragrance of roasting turkey and the aroma of chestnut dressing will be missing from the spacious lounge and broad verandas of the Riviera Country Club. "The steamtable arrived three weeks late; by that time the plumber had given up and gone fishing; that's the way it goes," related J. Fred Smith, manager and general factorum of the golfers' rendezvous. "But our kitchen and dining room facilities will surely be ready for the Christmas holidays," he declared. "Positively?" the manager was asked. Mr. Smith, a truthful man, went into conference with his conscience. "Positively? Well, let's say 'in all probability'," he suggested, crossing fore and middle fingers of both hands. If lack of formal dining facilities is troubling the 400 or so members, it's not apparent. An attractive variety of activities brings all to the club at some time during the week to swing on the green fairways, entertain at cocktails, enjoy a dip in the hibiscus-bordered pool or munch sandwiches al fresco. Friendly electioneering was the order of business this week among the lady golfers as they prepared to ballot next Friday on a slate of candidates drawn by Mrs. Larry Hodge and her nominating committee. Voting will be followed by cocktails at the Riviera Drive home of Mrs. Thomas J. Cook. Although names of the two nominees for each post will remain a secret known only to members, Mrs. Hodge revealed that Mrs. C. H. Reeder, spark of the Riviera Woman's Golf Association since its organization, has declined nomination for the chairmanship this year. She will retire to the ex-officio post of advisor to the new board. The present executive committee comprises Mrs. Ronald Raymond, co-chairman with Mrs. Reeder, Mrs. Cook, secretary-treasurer; Mrs. John V. Hardeman, publicity; and Mrs. Daniel R. Smith, social chairman. Cocktails from five to seven on Nov. 15th will attract the general membership and their ladies, as will the formal dance scheduled for clubhouse and patio Nov. 22nd. But high point of the month will be the combined cocktail dance, fashion show and buffet supper on the social agenda for the Thanksgiving week-end. Reservations are pouring in for the event, one of the most ambitious ever undertaken by the club. It is set for Saturday, Nov. 29th.

Miss Martha Luelle Shaw will occupy the chair at Monday's program, scheduled for 3 p. m. at the Coco Plum Woman's Club, and will introduce the speakers.
