PORTRAITS IN OIL APPEAR ON CRAVATS UNDER SKILLED BRUSH OF GABLES ARTIST
By Chuck Wiley "All art doesn't come at a high price," says Wallace B. Bohnhoff and he's out to prove that statement. He's doing a pretty good job of it, too. Wallace's contribution to art is in the form of hand-painted ties. But they're not just ordinary hand-painted ties. They're different, and most of all, they are original. For instance, many University of Miami students who purchase ties at the University shop where Wallace works, are amazed when Wallace tells them he will paint a likeness of their favorite girl on the tie if they will supply her photograph. But more amazed are they when they see the finished product - a beautiful oil painting done in natural colors. All of Wallace's customers, however, don't want a "best girl" painted on their ties. In that case Wallace supplies them with a likeness of their favorite dog, boat, fraternity seal, or just about anything else they desire. Two or three hours, depending upon the amount of interpretation that is required, are needed to paint a subject on a tie. Since the oil paints used are the same as those used on a canvas, it takes about two days for the painting to dry. Wallace estimates that he does around 10 ties a week. As to the durability of the painting, Wallace vows that it does not fade and it will last as long as the tie. A native of Waterford, N. Y., Wallace received his art training at the Franklin School of Professional Arts in New York, and at the Newark Academy in New Jersey. He moved to Coral Gables in October and enrolled at the University as a special advertising student. It is his intention someday to do illustrations for an advertising agency. Although he first began hand-painting of ties as a hobby, he now admits that he thoroughly enjoys it because of the pleasure his unique ties bring to his many customers. "So far," brags Wallace, "I've had 100 percent satisfied customers and that, in itself, is just about as unique as the ties I paint." -Riviera-Times Photo by Binner Portraitist Bohnhoff at His 'Canvases.'

Dr. Roy M. Wilson may not know it but when he arrives here from Chicago Saturday he'll be in for quite a bit of gadding about. So says Mrs. Wilson of 1252 Avenue Obispo. Wednesday evening they will attend the regular dance which is to be held in the patio of the Country Club of Coral Gables. For Thanksgiving dinner, the Wilsons have been invited to the home of Dr. and Mrs. Abram Hoffman on Normandy Isle. Dr. Hoffman was one of Dr. Wilson's favorite professors during his college days. Saturday evening, November 29, the Wilsons will be guests of Mrs. W. T. Hilles at an opera guild party which she is giving at her home at 1680 S. Bayshore Lane. Sooner or later the Wilsons plan to select a lot on which to start building a new home.
