Mr. Waddell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel James Waddell of 544 Avenue San Esteban, Coral Gables. PILOT-CAPT. O. B. KIEHL AND MOTHER TO FLY TO GUATEMALA FOR HOLIDAYS
Capt. Otto B. Kiehl will probably be extra, cautious when he makes his pre-Christmas flight to Guatemala. Reason: his mother will be on that plane and it will be her very first flight with him at the controls. Capt. Kiehl and his mom, Mrs. O. B. Kiehl, will spend Christmas together in Guatemala. At present, Mrs. Kiehl is visiting the junior Kiehls at their home on 920 Alberea Street. She and her daughter-in-law spent a week in Nassau recently at the Royal Victoria Hotel. When Mrs. Kiehl returns from Guatemala, she will stay with the junior Kiehls until after New Year's. Then she will journey to Santa Anita, California where she will visit friends.

Gableites Hosts To New Yorkers
Recent guests of the J. H. Farringtons, 5920 Blue Road, were Juan Martin and his sister, Miss Susana Martin, from New York City. While here, the Martins were honored with a buffet-cocktail party given by the Farringtons. About 50 guests were present. Also entertaining the Martins were Mr. and Mrs. Fred P. Ravlin and Mr. and Mrs. John E. Ravlin who took them on an all-day outing on their boat, "Lucky Star." The Martins, who are now in Chile, will return December 30 to visit the Farringtons until January 2. The foursome will attend the New Year's Orange Bowl classic, and, from all indications, they'll have no trouble getting tickets for this event since Mr. Farrington was in charge of putting up the new end-zone seats.

GABLES GIRL DEVELOPED YEN FOR SUKI YAKA DURING RED CROSS DUTY TOUR IN JAPAN
By HELEN REYNOLDS Two years with the Red Cross in Japan has convinced Jean Poe Beckdolt that the GI's are the finest on earth and the U. S. Army is tops. Jean returned last month after serving two and a half years in the recreation division of the Red Cross in the Far Eastern Theatre, China, Burma and India. The attractive wholesome looking daughter of the Frank N. Poes of 1107 Pizarro Street, is going to give up the gray-blue uniform for the 'new look' dress of the modern young woman but she is doing it reluctantly. Jean wears four silver stripes on her left sleeve denoting her years in the Red Cross, together with Far Eastern Theatre ribbons plus paratrooper's silver wings of the 11th airborne unit. On the little finger of her left hand she wears a hammered silver ring with the carving of the inevitable Japanese dragon, an apple in his mouth. "To me those boys over there were just exactly like the kids next door at home, friendly, grateful and ready at the drop of a hat for an old fashioned gabfest about anything under the sun," Jean told your interviewer. Perhaps the hardest task Jean had while stationed in Japan was making the 4 a. m. "jumps." Bundled in all the warm clothing they could find, for those early Japanese mornings were cold, Jean and her co-workers would rush out to the airport and have steaming cups of hot coffee ready for the paratroopers who "jumped in" once a week for their pay. "We knew them all by name," she said, "And as they landed we would rush the canteen of cof- (Please Turn to Page Nine)
Frenches Are Hosts To Jersey Girls
Not twins nor look alikes, but bearing the same given names and age, 19, are Miss Doris Cranmer and Miss Doris Dayton of New Jersey, who are the house guests for two weeks of the former's grandfather Captain R. M. French, and Mrs. French of 1118 Ferdinand street. Both Miss Cranmer, who is tall and stately and Miss Dayton, who is petite and photogenic, are career girls. Miss Cranmer, whose forbears helped settle the New Jersey coast, is a member of the Children of the American Revolution. The girls have been taking the surf and lots of sun for that enviable Florida tan.

Xmas Reunion 'Down Under' In Store for Grove Woman
BY CHUCK WILEY A very warm Christmas day is in store for Mrs. Paul J. O'Connor, 3501 Royal Palm Avenue, Coconut Grove. She'll be in Melbourne, Australia then. And what is more, she will be with her daughter whom she has not seen for 14 years. Leaving December 11 by Delta, Mrs. O'Conner will fly to San Francisco where she will board a Pan American plane December 12 and arrive in Melbourne on the 15th. There to meet her will be her daughter, Mrs. Alex Trahair, the former Isabella Stewart, and Mrs. Trahair's two children, Richard and Helen, whom Mrs. O'Connor has never seen. Although food is rationed over there and Mrs. O'Connor is only allowed to take the maximum of 55 pounds of baggage on the plane, she has already made sure that she won't starve while she is away. Not only has she been busy mailing boxes of food to Melbourne recently but she has also sent numerous gifts to the Trahair family. Among them were two pairs of AAF fliers glasses, which Mrs. Trahair requested.

J. Miller, 6901 Evergreen Plaza, Coconut Grove. Mrs. Miller is hoping that her guest will spend the winter with her but, says she, "If this weather keeps up, I dunno"." As for 11-year-old Richard, he'll (Please turn to Page Nine)
