'Miss Gables' Is Bride In Carolina Rites
Miss Jane Butler Rogers, who was named 'Miss Coral Gables' for both 1938 and 1939, became the bride of Adrian Tell Peschl in an Episcopal church ceremony November 8th at Anderson, S. C. The Rev. Rodney Reedy performed the double ring afternoon ceremony. For her marriage the bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold William Rogers, formerly of Coral Gables and now of South Carolina, wore a cafe au lait tailleur with beaver brown accessories. Her flowers were bronze orchids and her only ornament was an heirloom diamond pin, a gift from her mother. Mrs. Rogers was matron of honor for her daughter and George Partin of Camden, S. C., served as best man for Mr. Peschl. The bride attended the Coral Gables and Carolina schools. For the past year she has been a student at Anderson College, Anderson, S. C. Mr. Peschl is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Peschl of Hendersonville, N. C., formerly of Switzerland. After two years of service with the Navy, he is continuing his studies at Clemson College, Clemson, S. C. where the couple now reside.

Asked about her preparations for her long journey, Mrs. O'Connor explained that the only trouble she has had so far was with a smallpox vaccination which was required. Although her arm hurt for quite a few days after the vaccination, she says this trip is worth every bit of the pain one little needle caused. Mrs. O'Connor expects to return to her home sometime in March.

GABLES GIRL DEVELOPED YEN FOR SUKI YAKA DURING RED CROSS DUTY TOUR IN JAPAN
(Continued from Page Seven) fee to their aid—for they would be blue with cold." Enjoys Native Foods Although not permitted to eat in Japanese restaurants or homes, the U. S. personnel soon learned to enjoy thoroughly the native foods. "When we wanted to have a group in for dinner we would say 'Suki Yaka tomorrow night, can you come?' And you can bet there would be no regrets," she said. Suki Yaka, Jean reports, is a whole-meal dish organized of beef, bean sprouts, spring onions, green vegetables and soi sauce poured over the whole. When this dish is made in a Japanese home it is cooked on a charcoal fire at the table. The natives also pickle a long white radish in fish oil which they consider a delicacy. "To us it just smelled," she laughed. However as a special treat and as a personal gesture, Jean was entertained in the home of Mrs. O'Kamara at dinner. Mrs. O'Kamara, whose husband is the president of a bank, was a very charming woman, a graduate of the University of Tokyo where she majored in English. "You can imagine how I felt," Jean relates, "Sitting on the floor at the pint sized table eating most delicious food, trying in vain to manage chopsticks with my hostess poised, perfectly at ease and speaking perfect English." Jean found the Japanese people cooperative, or least so on the surface. "You could never tell exactly what went on in their minds, behind those expressionless eyes. But they were polite and would bow and bow," she said. About the only time she found them exasperating was when they, by mistake, would get on the phone. "They would yell 'Musha musha' which was hello in their language, over and over again and never hang up the phone," she said. Of course they could understand no English. Biggest Thrill Jean will always remember her stay in India. "To me the Himalaya mountains are the most gorgeous sight in the world," she said. "Picture white capped mountains rising row upon row until they finally melt into the sky. It was simply breath-taking to me. At sunset they take on the brilliant coloring of a Maxfield Parish painting." In India she picked up some Thibetan linens and a fabric, and while she did not ship any great amount of stuff home as some of the others did, she did manage to save a place in her bulging travel bag for some precious souvenirs. That trunk, by the way, has not been unpacked yet. Jean has had a housefull of guests almost continuously since her arrival home. "My buddies," she laughed, "On their way home North, East and West, so what could I do? We may never see each other again."

W. Olley, 2965 Aviation Avenue, Coconut Grove, is getting along nicely after spending two and a half weeks in Coral Gables Hospital.
