Gables Women's Groups Plan Joint Xmas Party Music, Garden and Woman's Organizations Combine Talents For Tri-Club Yule Program

Coral Gables' three most distinguished women's organizations will combine hospitality and talents Monday afternoon to present a festive tri-club Christmas party at headquarters of the Coral Gables Woman's Club. For the third successive year, members of the Coral Gables Senior Club will join the Coral Gables Music Club and the Coral Gables Garden Club in celebrating the advent of the Yuletide season. And each of the groups will assume a share in the festivities scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. With the Woman's Club as host group for the day, the Garden Club will assume responsibility for decoration of meeting hall and tea tables in keeping with the Christmas theme, while Music Club members provide a program of appropriate vocal and instrumental music. Receiving members and guests will be the three presidents-Mrs. William Cox, Mrs. George Corrigan and Mrs. Fred Grinham. Mrs. C. H. Neill, program chairman for the Music Club, will introduce Mary Davies, soprano, and Harry Graham, baritone. They will join voices in the duet "Mexican Noel." In a cello solo obligato by Miss Holstein. Miss Holstein, a member of the University Symphony Orchestra, will play Schubert's "Ave Maria" as her solo. Mrs. Davies, accompanied by Edward Clark, pianist, will also sing the popular "I Wonder as I Wander," an Appalachian Christmas Carol by Niles. Two piano numbers, "Gesu Joy of Man's Desiring" and "Rondo in E Flat" by Hummel, will be the musical contribution of talented Mary Ellison. The Madrigal Singers, a chorus of the voices of some 20 Music Club members, will sing a group of Christmas carols under the direction of Adelaide Rittenhouse, and will lead the combined clubs and their guests in singing the old familiar Yuletide hymns and carols. Edward Clarke, regular guest lecturer for the music group, will give the "Christmas Story." The program will be followed by a tea and social hour.

Mrs. Charles S. Barlow has arrived from Richmond, Va., to spend the Christmas holidays with her son-in-law and daughter Dr. and Mrs. Edward H. Williams of 4375 SW 16 Terrace. Mrs. Barlow arrived in time to attend grandson Ned's ninth birthday anniversary next Saturday. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Robert Childers of Arkansas City, Kans., and Coral Gables are announcing the birth of a second son, Robert Lloyd, December 4th at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Childers is the former Miss Marilyn Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Fritz Gordon of 1706 Country Club Prado. Three-year-old Gordon made the acquaintance of his brand new brother yesterday when Mrs. Childers and the baby returned home from the hospital. * * * Miss Hallie Hall, co-ed at Florida State University, has been pledged to Alpha Delta Pi sorority, according to word received from the University. Hallie is the neice of Mrs. Ralph O. Cullen, and has made many friends in the Gables during visits to the home of her uncle and aunt at 605 Avenue Navarra.

Panhellenic Party to Feature 'Design for Christmas' Theme

"Design for Christmas" is the program theme that will highlight Panhellenic's annual Christmas luncheon to be held Saturday at the Miramar Hotel in Miami. Mrs. E. Hugh Duffy, president of the organization, will preside at the 1 o'clock party, which is open to members and their guests. Over all arrangements for the event rest in the hands of Mrs. Thelma Peters, general chairman, while Miss Faith Cornelison has charge of the program. Mrs. Dorothy Stears Mayer has been named chairman of music for the day and Mrs. Don Butler will serve as toastmistress. Miss Cornelison will call on the talents of five talented fellow members in presenting "Design for Christmas" entertainment. Mrs. W. J. Van Steenberg will give the Christmas story, with Mrs. H. Harry Denham in charge of the Santa Claus feature; Mrs. John H. Mercer, Jr., light; Miss June Inman, carols, and Mrs. Donald MacArthur, flowers. Members of the Junior Choir of the White Temple, under the baton of Miss Evelyn Simon, will sing carols.

HE'S O. K.!

Ogden King Houstoun 3rd, who was born Friday to Mr. and Mrs. O. K. Houstoun Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., is "O.K." with his parents and his doting grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O. K. Houstoun of 520 Avenue Minorca, who are announcing the advent of their very first grandchild. The arrival of Ogden King the third must have been pretty super-sure with his daddy, a senior student at Georgia Tech, for he selected a brand new train of cars for his expected heir two weeks before his birth.

SPONSORS PUPPET THEATRE PREMIERE

The Miami Wellesley Club will be sponsoring organization Saturday for the matinee premiere of the Children's Puppet Theater at the University of Miami. "The Prince and the Mermaid," a production written and staged by Mrs. Sanel Beer and her puppet class at the University, has been chosen for the premiere. The curtain will go up promptly at 2:30 p. m. at the Box Theater in the Triangle Building on the University's North Campus. Proceeds from Saturday's performance will be turned over by Mrs. Beer to the Wellesley College 75th Anniversary Fund. Tickets may be obtained at the Box Theater on Saturday. Advance reservations will be taken by Mrs. Selden Stewart of 424 Avenue Almeria. Mrs. Stewart's telephone is 48-1564.

Harry A. Shays Invite Friends For Pre-Fashion Show Cocktails

Their home at 1511 Lisbon Street will be the locale of the Harry A. Shay's cocktail party to be given December 16 at 8 p.m, preceding the fashion show-dance which will be held at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Cocktail guests will be Mr. and Mrs. James Llewellyn, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fuchs, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Reducka, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ravelin, Mr. and Mrs. James Llewellyn, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Link, and Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Noggle. Following this informal get-together, guests and hosts will journey to the Country Club for the fashion show, dance and 11 p.m. buffet supper.

Linda Marion To Share Birthday Fun With 20 Elementary School First-Graders

A red and green cake bearing the letters "Linda" across the top will be on the dining room table of Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Marion tomorrow when 20 young guests of their daughter gather to help Linda celebrate her sixth birthday. From 3 until 5 p.m. guests will hunt peanuts, pin stars on a paper Christmas tree, and participate in various other birthday-Christmas games in the Marion home on 635 Avenue Palermo. Several prizes will be awarded and party favors will be given to the guests. Most of Linda's guests attend the Coral Gables Elementary School where Linda is in the first grade.

Mrs. Jennie Brown Directs Christmas Tea, Sale at Congregational Church

So you don't know what to get Aunt Jane for Christmas? Maybe you'll get an idea Friday if you attend the Christmas sale and tea being given by the Woman's Association of the Coral Gables Congregational Church from 3 until 5 p.m. in the church lounge. There'll be aprons, children's clothing and many other Christmas gifts available. Admission to the sale is free but it'll cost you 50 cents to sip tea at a table adorned with Christmas decorations. Mrs. Jennie Brown, chairman of this affair, will be assisted by Mrs. Frank Cady, Mrs. George Nichols, Mrs. Worth S. Clair, Mrs. Howard Sullivan, Mrs. Ida Stone Walker, Miss Helen Warner, and Mrs. Clifford White.

Selden Stewarts Hosts To Prayer Group

Mr. and Mrs. Selden Stewart II will be hosts to the Gables Presbyterian church Study and Prayer group at 7:30 tomorrow evening in their home at 424 Avenue Almeria. The group will study the subject of "Personal Christian Work," with emphasis on the question "Am I Able To Do Personal Work?" Those attending are urged to bring their Bibles.

South Miami Women Present Annual Musicale

Following a tradition begun eight years ago, an annual musicale will be given at the South Miami First Methodist Church Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. Sponsored by the Women's Society for Christian Service of the church, this musicale will feature John L. Doel, dramatic tenor, who will sing Adams' "The Holy City," Speaks' "There Is No Psalm," and Neidlinger's "Birthday Of A King." He will also sing six solos in costume. Margaret Ann Turner will accompany him. Piano soloist of the evening will be Dale Faust who will play Chopin's "Prelude" and parts of the composer's 'Etudes in G Flat". Preceding the program, Arthur Davis, church organist, will present a 15 minute recital of Scotch ballads. Musicale hostesses are Mrs. Olive Galloway, and Mrs. Barbara Cotton. In charge of decorations is Mrs. B. S. Chinn. Ushers are Barbara Ann Reese, Marilyn Rogers, Joan Foyle, and Gail Acker.
