BY HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR Taking guests to the theatre after dinner used to be a popular mode of entertainment in years gone. Perhaps it's coming back. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. McDonald of 133 Avenue San Sebastian are entertaining at a buffet supper tomorrow night and have bidden their guests for seven o'clock. At eight thirty they will be on hand at the Box Theatre to hear Professor Frederick Koch Jr., give his interpretation of Dickens' immortal "Christmas Carol." The McDonald guests include Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Strong, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Weinkle, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Derr and Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Vaughan. They say Freddie Koch does a remarkable job with "Old Scrooge" and Marley's ghost and all of the other characters in Dickens' famous tale. He has been giving the Christmas story at the University Theatre for a number of years, at first just for the students and a few invited guests. Now by popular demand it becomes a must on the Playmakers list of entertainments. Freddie's father, you know, the late Dr. Koch did this bit of Dickens' work to perfection. They say his son is like him. Miss Henrietta Ann Fenner, bride-elect, entertained her attendants-to-be at a "spinster" dinner last night and at the same time the bridegroom-elect, John Marcus Grathwohl was host at his "bachelor" party. Miss Fenner and Mr. Grathwohl will be married in an Episcopal ceremony at St. Philip's church tonight. The bride-elect was honored at a personal shower by members of her sorority, Sigma Kappa, at the home of Miss Betty Berney on Sunday. Monday she was hon-ored at a linen shower by a group of her mother's friends at the home of Mrs. Fred Warden in Miami. Henrietta is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick M. Fenner Sr., of 419 Avenue Aragon. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Leary were hosts Saturday night at their home, 3519 Toledo Drive at another in a series of prenuptial parties honoring Margaret Matthews and her fiance Berney Burgess. Using bridal decorations with Christmas colors, Mrs. Leary produced a "Santa" and an "angel" for the bride and groom motive in the centerpiece on the refreshment table. Guests were Pan-American associates of the bride-to-be. Friday night Mrs. Donald K. Reynolds and Miss Elizabeth Ricketts honored Miss Matthews, who was a bridesmaid at Mrs. Reynolds' marriage at a linen shower at Mrs. Reynolds' home, Coral Woods of the bride-elect attended. Poinsettias were used in decorations. About 20 were present. Gene Ivy and Lowell Veach decided they were going to do something about their friend Joe Heard who was about to become a December "benedict" so they honored him with a "shower" Thursday night at Gene's home, 1206 Capri Street. Twenty friends of the bridegroom-elect came to the bachelor dinner after which the gifts were opened in the best bride's shower party tradition. The boys carried out a bridal color scheme and placed a resplendent groom atop the cake center-ing the table. Gifts of shirts, ties, socks and underwear were a very real part of the party. Joe's fiancee, Miss Janice Richey is expected home Saturday from Tallahassee after her graduation from Florida State University. Joe surely has jumped the gun on his sweetheart as far as pre-nuptial parties are concerned, for a round of parties in her honor will begin as soon as she arrives, and continue until the 27th of December, the date the wedding bells will ring. Penny and John Brons and their darling daughter, two-year-old Roan were going to spend their first Christmas in the brand new home just finished in South Miami "or bust." "Well it's a bust" Mrs. Brons said via the telephone with almost tears in her voice. Mr. Brons was ordered on foreign flight for Pan American Airways which will take him to the Central American countries for several weeks. Penny and Roan will spend Christmas with Roan's grandparents, the Ralph Roths, 1122 Avenue Sorolla and await Daddy's return. Mr. and Mrs. Brons had given up their apartment at 3712 Anderson Road, preparatory to moving to the new home.

Sports Editor Finds Fiesta Fashion Squad In the Pink, with Razzle-Dazzle to Spare
(Scurrilous insinuations by the Riviera-Times' bachelor sports editor that work of the Society Department consists entirely of eating free lunches, sipping cocktails and meeting gorgeous gals, brought a challenge that he try covering final preparations for the Country Club of Coral Gables' Fashion Fiesta. His play-by-play account follows) By DON CUDDY Riviera-Times Sports Editor Oh, my mother never told me What every young sport should know— That the finer points of the game Look so good in a fashion show. When 53 veteran stalwarts answered Coach Eldredge "Pen" Pennock's final practice call at the Country Club of Coral Gables the canny fashion mentor expressed confidence that his Ivy League squad will offer plenty of razzle-dazzle competition to semi-pro Miami and Miami Beach clothes horses when the season gets underway in the Fiesta Fashion Classic tomorrow night. Sparked by the versatile Billie Harting, the "Provisionals" playing line coach, and sensational junior scatbaoner Muriel Marshall, the aggregation is three and four deep in every position with seasoned talent. Although Pennock gave his charges rough work-outs last week and plans final drill tonight, he said that all of them are in the best shape of their careers and together make Coral Gables an odds-on favorite to repeat their South Florida style conquests over all comers. "We've got plenty of spirit, speed and hustle," Pennock said, making no attempt to conceal his strategy. "All members of my squad have their assignments down so well that each walk-on should be good for a score." As in the past, the Provisionals will run from the line-forms-on-the-left-formation, the conventional system which has always showed the various sequences to the best advantage. Hiking onto the platform in front of the patio bandshell, the fabric-packers will strut plenty of hipper-dipper before sinking away once in the open on the dance floor. Several plays have been developed where the principals will pick up blocking to waltz, tango and samba to the promised land where the reward of a good scotch and soda awaits. Dress Rehearsal Show Promise Before the floodlights in dress rehearsal, Pennock let his candidates turn on the power and deception that should make this (Please Turn to Page Eight)
Growth from Roster of Seven To 100 Members Celebrated By Gables Newcomers Club
Growth from an original roster of seven to a membership numbering one hundred women in the short space of eight months was the achievement celebrated by Coral Gables Newcomers at their first annual luncheon meeting. Mrs. James L. Mooney was named president of the fast-growing organization at the gathering held at the Country Club of Coral Gables. She takes over the reins of leadership from Mrs. F. C. Chandler who was elected club president at the Founders' meeting held last April. Seventy members of the Newcomers were on hand to vote into office the following executive slate to assist the new president: Mrs. J. D. Van Atten, 1st vice president; Mrs. Graham Monroe, 2nd vice president; Mrs. F. A. Greely, secretary; and Mrs. H. C. Binns, treasurer. First official act of Mrs. Mooney was announcement that the Newcomers Club would continue active aid to the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center as its year's project. To punctuate the announcement, the group turned over to Harry L. Morganthaler, founder-president of the Center, a check for $500. The money was earned at a benefit Christmas bazaar sponsored by the Newcomers December 6th at the Garden Shop. It was also announced that Mrs. Harold Robinson had received an award of an Electrolux from the club and Mrs. Rosalind Kincaid of 1214 Galiano Street, a bride's doll.

Barton and son Teddy, arrive from Detroit, Mich., this Sunday they'll bring with them an ample supply of venison which they secured from a 150-pound deer that Mr. Barton shot recently.
