Thanksgiving Brought Friends And Relatives

By ANN BLUMENTHAL | Thanksgiving Day has come and gone and with it came relatives and friends to enjoy the festivities. The shoping centers have caught the holiday spirit with decorations and jingle bells. Knights of Pythias, Roosevelt Lodge 177, started it's know Your America Week in this hour of Thanksgiving. On open house was held on Monday evening, Nov. 21, at the Temple Hall, 4601 Flagler St. The subject was Combat Communism. West Miami Garden Club's new project for this year is helping girls from the age group of 6 to 12 at Kendall County Home. They go to the home every Saturday morning and show the children how to make a garden and also give them refreshments. A Christmas party is to be held for these children at the home on Dec. 20. Gifts will be distributed by garden club members. One of the female members is going to dress up as a Santa Claus. Chairman of the project is Mrs. William Day. Naomi Hadassah Chapter is having a dinner and auction on Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Silks Club on Brickell Ave. The auction will have housewares, awnings and everything from useful items to weekend trips. Gifts for the holiday will be on hand. The dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The auction will start at 8 p.m. Mrs. Leatrice Leiberman is chairman of the auction. Mrs. Shirley Grossman is in charge of the dinner. For reservations, call HI 3-3036. Proceeds will go to Youth Aliyah, a rehabilitation center for orphaned children in Israel. The public is invited. Ray of Hope Chapter JMHAC held its regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Cookies Restaurant. The mah jong tournament beginning at the start of December will run 10 weeks. Those interested, call Marianne Shayne, CA 1-3466. Southwest Optimist Organization held a youth appreciation week from Nov. 14 to 20. A king and queen contest was held for teenagers on Channel 10 and a tennis and swimming tournament were held in Allapattah and Miami Beach. The climax of the week was a parade on Flagler St. with the West Miami Recreation Department participating. Southwest optimists in charge of the program were: Buz Arman, president, Jerry Kogan, treasurer, and Milt Schapper, governor. A bowling league is being started at Bird Bowl with boys from 9 to 12. For those who wish to join, call Mr. Toomey, CA 1-0632, boys work chairman of the Southwest Optimists. The Southwest Senior Citizens Friendship Club announces the election and appointment, of committee chairman for the coming year. They are: presiding chairman, Gertrude Kaplan; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Mae Smith; transportation and decorations chairman, Mrs. Jean Mintz; program and activities chairman, Mrs. Sophie Pearlstein; music and entertainment chairman, Mrs. Robert Kimmel; sunshine chairman, Mrs. Ellen Halstead; membership chairman, Mrs. Robert Schweitzer; holiday celebration chairmen, Mr. and Mrs. Isidore Rosenstein; house chairman, Mrs. Sol Roth and Mrs. Rose Forman; refreshments chairman, Mrs. Sarah Balber; and equipment chairman, Robert Kimmel.

Ray of Hope Chapter JNHAC, is having a bake sale on Dec. 10 at 10 a.m., at 67 Ave. and 8 St. Chairman is Lilly Schmidmayer. Mrs. Adolph Rackline has returned after her visit to England which was once her homeland. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Teigenbaum, 2001 SW 82 Pl., have both their mothers visiting their new granddaughter . . . Mrs. Kate Jacobi, Ruth's mother from New York, and Fred's mother, Mrs. Clair Schaefer from Tallsburg, N. Y. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald J. Shayne, 8240 SW 28 St., are celebrating their son Victor Allan's 4th birthday with a party at their home. Friends and relatives will guest.
