Palmetto High School Chooses Its Superlatives
By EUNICE TALL Correspondent Early this school year Palmetto seniors voted to title outstanding class members in various categories to appear in the second annual, Palm Echo, school yearbook. Results of the voting reveal Yearbook Superlatives 1962. Greatest Leadership: Judi Cohen, Pete Andrus; Best All Around: Cathy Copley, Tom Spencer. Most Intelligent: Gwen Grizzle, George Miller; Most Likely to Succeed: Suzie Straight, Dale Heckerling; Most Distinguished: Sandy Griffiths, Tabor Novak; Most Industrious: Jennifer Wynn, Bob Keisau. Most Original: Kay Seiler, Mike Vestal; Most Athletic: Sharon Pitz, Fred Overly; Whittiest: Leah Kahan, Jim Giffen; Friendliest; Marlou Morton, Ronnie Hinman. Most School Spirited: Dellarae Black, Woody Woodruff; Most Talented: Sandy Hoff, Doug Hollister. Best Groomed: Maggie Ross, Jake Rocker; Most Courteous: Linda Kiser, Eddie Hagan; and Best Looking: Kay Williams, Ralph Hutchins. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS Future Homemaker member Carla Krassen was selected as semi-finalist in SEVENTEEN'S Tobe' Colburn Scholarship Contest held recently. Club President Libby Trest was chosen Senior Representative for McCall's Teen Fashion Board. GIRLS' SPORTS CLUB Girls' Sports Club intramurals are being held everyday after school. Official try-outs for the girls' basketball team will begin Jan. 30. The team will be chosen by Feb. 6. KEY CLUB Palmetto Key Club sponsored by the South Miami Kiwanis accepted 24 new members last week. Students accepted in the senior class were Jerry Partney, Tom Spencer, Dale Williamson, Paul Martinson, Eric Anderson, Tom Brown, William Hester and Charles Morrison. Junior Class: Don Valentine, Gray Anderson, John MacKay, Randy Fairchild, Tom Simmons, Rick Denicke, James Epting and Jon Mooy. Sophomore Class: Dexter Lehtinen, Gap Kovach, Bruce Bigman, Don Gillett, Larry Glickman, Mike Johannsen, Steve Chenault and Fred Luss.
SM Will Get A Kwik Chek
A Kwik Chek supermarket, one of the biggest in Dade County, is coming to the heart of South Miami. South Miami Council Tuesday night of last week granted variances necessary for construction of the supermarket encompassing the entire block of SW 73rd and 74th Sts. and 58th Ct. and 59th Ave. According to a Kwik Chek official at the meeting, about one-fourth of the block will be used for the building, with the remainder of the block being used for parking. Construction will begin later this month and take about three months to complete.
