Mrs. John Alfred White, Jr. Writes Song About Miami

Coral Gables has its own little corner of celebrities this season in the person of Mrs. John Alfred White, Jr., house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ralsten of 833 Alhambra Circle. Mrs. White who writes under the pen name of Margaret Scott Penn received the first copies of her new song, "Meet Me in Miami' this week and if the new song is as popular as her "Blue Bonnet" which was sung the length and breadth of Texas it will be a hit. She was inspired to write the song while in Washington, thinking of Miami, where she spends her winters. It has been featured by Hem Olson and his orchestra at the Country Club of Coral Gables where it met with instant success, with patrons at the club clamoring for copies. Mrs. White is very modest about her compositions. She says, "I composed one of the best songs that I ever published walking down Fifth Avenue New York, it was a beautiful day and I felt like a million dollars. The words and the melody just came to me suddenly and when I went home I wrote them down. I usually feel happy and all pepped up when I write my songs". Mrs. White has a charming personality. She has a post graduate diploma in music from the University of Pennsylvania after attending several conservatories for earlier training. In Washington she plays frequently at luncheons and entertainments for the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederacy and the Women's City Club. She is an honorary member of the Miami Music Club and one of the most popular figures in social circles here as well as in her home in Washington.
