by HELEN REYNOLDS June week, or rather Royal Poincianna week, will end tomorrow night with the jubilee at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Perhaps the prettiest of all the Royal Reds stands at the door of the Country Club, or almost at the door, for it's across the street on the country club property spreading its bright branches as far as it can, and floodlighted as a courtesy, by Florida Power and Light Company. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Epperson started the week's festivities with their second annual fiesta to the beautiful flowering trees Sunday afternoon. Nobody had a better time at their party than the Eppersons themselves and they must have imparted some of that spirit to the many hundreds who called; for long after the orchestra had left, guests were chatting in groups, reluctant to leave the pretty spot. Mrs. Lon Worth Crow, Sr., always attractively gowned, wore a raceme of the flowers as a crosage. She said she fashioned it in the car on the way to the party. It exactly matched her red hat and caused no end of interest. Mrs. Clifford Reeder, wife of Miami's new mayor in the receiving line with the hosts wore gray net-corsage of Poincianna blooms. Choosing the cocktail hour to introduce their many friends to their new home, Mr. and Mrs. J. Wylly Keck of 2520 San Domingo Avenue entertained about 50 Saturday. Guests were received by little Miss Kathleen Keck, young daughter of the household. Mrs. J. B. Hiers, Jr., greeted guests at the door and incidently said goodbye, for she and Mr. Hiers, Jr., are leaving today for Denver to attend the Rotary International convention. The Keck home, set far back on a broad lawn is a charming example of Colonial architecture, yet combining many tropical features. Mrs. Arthur B. Headley accompanied by Mrs. Joseph H. Adams left Wednesday for Hendersonville, N. C., for a visit with the J. Harry Collinses at their moutain home. They will go from there to Rye, N. Y. where Mrs. Adams will visit her daughter and to Fairfield, Conn. where Mrs. Headley will visit her son Robert B. Sparks. Mr. Headley will join Mrs. Headley in Rochester, N. Y., where they will spend the summer, later visiting in Canada; returning to Coral Gables in October. Attending a houseparty in Vero Beach over the week end were Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Brock and Mr. and Mrs. George H. Roerig. They were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Holman at their lake lodge while there, and enjoyed fresh water bass fishing. Speck-lip of fish, a 75 pound, 71⁄2 foot sail, second largest caught in Miami this season is the proud catch of Harold Kronthal of New York, brother of Mrs. Harold Sycle and the Sycle's recent guest house. Mrs. E. E. Cady is spending the week in Washington, D. C. . . . Mrs. Howard Sullivan, daughter Mrs. A. J. Koswell and graddaughter Ann are in the Tennessee mountains . . . Mrs. Richard Bartholomew and daughter Marjorie are on their way by motor to Riverside, Calif., where they will spend the summer as the guests of Mrs. Bartholomew's mother, Mrs. Mary Filkin. Mrs. Harry Simpson and daughter Ann Simpson are in Waynesville, N. C., where they have opened their cottage for the season. Mr. Simpson, who accompanied them has returned . . . Mrs. John C. Sullivan writes from Hendersonville, N. C., where she will be for the next two months, while Ruth and John are in camp. Ruth is at Camp "Ton-a-wanda" and John will go to "Pinacle". Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Peigrim and daughter Miss Lois Estelle Peigrim left Monday by motor for Macatawa, Mich., where they will spend the summer season . . . Grant Orr is in Jacksonville Beach for a few days visiting Mrs. Orr and their two children who are spending some time there. Later Mr. Orr will visit New York, Chicago and Columbus, O., on business . . . Dr. and Mrs. Henry West left Saturday for "Homewood", The Plains, Va., for the summer. Enroute they stopped at Maryland State College for the unveiling of the portrait of Dean West painted by Denman Fink. Mr. and Mrs. Vivian Edwards of 811 Avenue Camilo who have been spending several months in Houston, Texas will arrive home about the 27th of the month. They will visit their son Dr. W. R. Edwards and his new wife enroute at Meridan, Miss. Dr. Edwards, a reserve dental officer has been ordered to duty at Meridan this week. The marriage of Dr. Edwards and Miss Betty Roberts occured May 24 at Ottumwa, Ia. Kuedos to Jack D. Kane, son of Mrs. Rodney Miller, who received his commission as second lieutenant in the Marine Corps, Tuesday. Jack, recently completed six weeks' intensive training at OpaLocka, where he was instructed in air craft carrier work. He will return to Pensacola, as an instructor at the Pensacola air base, following a 15 day leave. Jack was graduated from the local schools and attended the University of Florida where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Dr. and Mrs. C. H. Neill and sons, Jim and Gene of Segovia Circle, left yesterday for an extended vacation. They will visit St. Petersburg and Tallahassee, then the Great Smoky mountain region. Later they will go to Lake Lure, N. C., where the boys will enter "Chimney Rock" Camp. While the boys are at camp, Dr. and Mrs. Neill will be guests at Lake Lure Inn. Later the Neills will occupy their summer home near Fairmont, W. Va., returning to Coral Gables about September 1.

Coral Gables Junior Woman's Club Hear Stirring Report at Luncheon
Highlights of her trip to Atlantic City as delegate to the General Federation of Women's Clubs convention was the chief topic of Mrs. W. O. Mehrtens' talk as she gave her report before the members of the Junior Woman's Club Monday. Mrs. Mehrtens also presided in the absence of the president, Mrs. Dana Melendon who is vacationing in Beaufort, N. C. The meeting was the first of the summer luncheon meetings and was held at the San Juan Restaurant. Most thrilling episode was the debate between Senators Wheeler and Pepper on "Should the United States Convoy Our Ships to England", according to Mrs. Mehrtens. The debators journeyed to Atlantic City and appeared before the assembled convention delegates. Also stressed in the report was woman's part in the general defense of our country. Mrs. Malcolm McDonald, Florida chairman of juniors and a member of the club also spoke. There were 49 present for the luncheon. A short business meeting followed. Twelve members signed up to do Red Cross work. The next luncheon meeting will be held the second Monday in July, place to be announced.

Feminine Contingent Out Early To Vote for Favorite Candidates
Every thing from shorts to jodhpurs, adorned the feminine contingent in the first hour or two of voting at City Hall Tuesday. It's too bad, young and pretty Jane Curnin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Curnin, 2622 San Domingo Avenue couldn't vote. She's but 16 or thereabouts, but she looked mighty attractive in yellow print play suit that blended in with her beautiful crown of red hair falling in curls to her shoulders, as she waited on city hall steps for her elders. Mrs. O. G. Finkle who with her husband Dr. Finkle cast her vote early was attired for horseback riding. Her slim form looked well in brown twill riding breeches leather boots and spurs. Harriet and Ralph Cooper came in bare headed. She in summer print, white wedgies. Judge Holland was there quite early, in white linens, to vote and hasten to town for his day on the bench. Mrs. Tom Mayes looked pretty in gray and pink print with pink ribbon belt and matching hat. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lambert came together. Mrs. Lambert, the pretty thing, in green and white summer sheer. Mrs. John Zimmerman who'll be leaving soon for the summer, voted in cool beige spun rayon with green zipper from neck to hem. Coming in together to vote and making a pretty picture were Miss Betty Speizman and Miss May Ghee Chu. Miss Chu, a Chinese is probably the only oriental registered voter in the Gables. She was very smart looking, dressed in white, yes china silk, her coal black hair piled high. Miss Speizman wore white sharkskin, white and green Breton sailor. Many of the lady voters were the reliable chambray so cool looking. Mrs. Malcolm McDonald was in a rose blouse outfit, with rose and white striped skirt . . . Mrs. William Mixson in blue and white, diangonial striped . . . Mrs. Allison B. Curry, wife of the city manager appeared also in blue chambray some good looking tan wedgie sandles on her feet. Mrs. Ernestine Tylee's rose and white summer frock was zippered up the back to a high neck line. William L. Gray, Jr., who came to vote early, was bemoaning the fact Mrs. Gray and their son, W. L. Jr., were in the North Carolina mountains and Tuesday was their 10th wedding anniversary, also son Bill's birthday. We could but console with him. Mr. and Mrs. Royce Powell came in together. Mrs. Powell wearing a neat little silver "hat" that turned out to be a brooch, the gift of her young son, at the neck of her becoming green silk shirt. Miss Edythe Harrison, of our own University hospital and a whole coterie of nurses all white clad rushed in and out, just as nurses do. Gertrude Hardeman, (Mrs. John) who claims she breaks a 91 in her weekly golf game (with no practice) was cool in blue chambray eyelet cut. Mrs. Helen Dio, one of Coral Gables pioneer women, voted early, looking smart in blue and white checked sheer; panama hat. She'll be leaving soon to join her family at Black Mountain, N. C. Mrs. Denis A. Cray wore black and white printed sheer; pretty yellow shoes as contrast. Mrs. Roy Paige looked smart in green checked seersucker (Please turn to Page Four)
