by HELEN REYNOLDS. No one thought, a year ago, that social duties might include having the British cadets to dinner, but several Coral Gabelites have felt the urge of the "good neighbor policy" and are entertaining these young fellows, who have come afar to study American navigation at our University. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Ricketts, he's a Pan-am flyer, of 4500 S. W. Fourteenth street, Coral Gables, frequently have a quartet of the cadets in for dinner and every Sunday take them on a sightseeing drive. The cadets on the Ricketts' list are Roland Kain, Ken Rawlins, Arthur Scholfield and Bill Fraser. Mrs. Ricketts says the cadets were amazed at the size of our country when first they trod our shores. They never tire of telling, that when first informed they were to come to the United States and Florida, they looked at the map and decided Florida might be about "50" miles across. So if you feel the urge, there are about 150 of Uncle Sam's nephews (on the distant side) open for dinner engagements or a Sunday afternoon ride. Mr. and Mrs. Alpheus Collins are leaving the 29th to join the summer colony of Gableites in the North Carolina mountains. They will go to Highland for several weeks and expect to spend the month of September at Brightwater Farms, out from Hendersonville. They will be accompanied by Mrs. S. Ernest Philpitt, who after several days in Highlands will go to Asheville to visit Dr. and Mrs. D. E. Sheehan, former Gableites. Dr. Arthur Weiland is leaving Saturday for Watertown, Mass., to join Mrs. Weiland and their four young daughters, Johanna, Mary Lou, Patsy and Judith who have been vacationing there all summer. Dr. Weiland will be away about six weeks-will bring his family home ... Mr. and Mrs. James C. Ray and two sons, Thomas (fourteen) and Peter (ten) left Wednesday for Canada via North Carolina, then Washington, where they will be the guests of Sen. Walter F. George of Georgia, (Mr. Ray and the Senator were boys together in Georgia) for a few days. In Canada they will visit at Ottawa and Montreal with a side trip to Niagara Falls, for the boys' benefit and be away six weeks. Miss Dorothy Parmelee has returned from Mt. Vernon, N. Y., and a visit with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Howard Taylor and 16-month-old Dean Taylor. While there, she had as her guest, Miss Nancy McNamara, of the Ponce de Leon High School faculty, who is vacationing with her mother in Clayton, Ga. ... Mr. and Mrs. James Ebbitt (Lucy Brawner) have returned from visits in Washington, Philadelphia, New York City and Avalon, N. J., where they were the guests of Gableites, the Thomas C. Pooles. Mrs. Whiting Paine has planned an extensive summer trip for the next four months. She will leave Saturday for Washington, accompanied by her house guest, Miss Peggy Merritt, daughter of Judge and Mrs. E. G. Martin of Ohio, who came down from Jacksonville for a week's visit with Mrs. Paine. In Washington Mrs. Paine will visit her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Hamilton. Later with Mrs. Hamilton, Mrs. Paine will spend her usual several weeks at the Marlborough-Blenheim in Atlantic City. To New York for September and visits in Cleveland and Norwalk, O., with the Martins are on her itinerary before returning late in December. Along the newly opened waterway from the Roy A. Page home (6312 Riviera Drive) west an entirely new developement of homes, each with its own boat slip is being constructed, with that masterpiece, the Fred Franklin Ravlin home situated at 1000 S. San Marino. The Mrs. Fred Ravlin home, now finished and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Ravlin and their eight-month-old baby boy, is a beautiful example of the modern small home completely equipped with the essentials for land comfort and water travel. Approached from the Avenue Alfonso side, the Ravlin estate gives the impression of "faraway," a mere day from "anywhere", yet, it's barely two blocks from the Dixie Highway south, and but a step from Ponce de Leon High School. Mr. and Mrs. Ravlin, who spent many years in Denmark, and only yesterday (it seems) came on ahead of the war, have filled their new home with antiques and rare pieces they collected while abroad. Mr. Ravlin studied architecture here in the schools; he's practically a native of South Florida, helped design the modern Mediterranean type home, gardens, out-door barbecue (a beauty), dance patio and swimming pool, all picturesquely following the natural bend in the waterway. When the whole plan is completed, Venetian lamp posts with colored lights will dot the bank, lighting each small estate that packs its own boat at the back door as well as its automobile at the front. Mrs. D. H. Redfearn and son Bobby, 1260 Greenway Drive, are leaving today for Highlands, N. C., Atlanta and other Georgia points for a month or so... Miss Mary B. Merritt, dean of women at the University, left Saturday for Gainesville, Ga., and a visit with relatives ... Mrs. Ted Reducka of Sunset Road, is leaving the first of August for Pennsylvania and the New England states. In September she and Mrs. Reducka plan to go to Waynesville, N. C., and join the group of horse back riding enthusiasts who will tour the Smokies, via their mounts. Mrs. A. G. Person chose triple blue sheer, black pillbox and black accessories for her marriage to Pilot Roy Keeler Monday night at Hollywood. The comely bride stated that her wedding day, July 21 would have been on the golden wedding anniversary of her parents; her father died a year ago. Capt. and Mrs. Keeler will live at 2523 Alhambra Circle following a ten-day wedding trip. Mr. and Mrs. Richard B. Roberts, Jr., son Bill and Mr. Roberts' mother, Mrs. R. B. Roberts, Sr., have returned to their Alhambra Circle home after a month's visit in New York, New Haven and Washington. On return they spent a day in historic Williamsburg, Va. ... Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoover are vacationing in Detroit and other Michigan points-expect to spend some time in Toronto.
Even Bare Feet To Be Permitted At 'All Out Comfort' Dance
Marries in New York City
Mrs. Arthur Douglas Ayars, the former Miss Bettie Marie Mathers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Mathers of 916 Avenue Milan, chose the famous Little Church Around the Corner (Episcopal) in New York City for her marriage to Mr. Ayars, formerly of Coconut Grove.
Reynolds-Haller Nuptials Held Yesterday
Miss Rosemary Reynolds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Doyle Reynolds, became the bride of Orville W. Haller yesterday in a simple home wedding. The ceremony was performed before the family and a group of close friends, at the home of the bride's aunt, Mrs. H. G. Richardson, 1135 Avenue Venetia, at 4:30 p. m., by the Rev. R. Willey Scott, pastor of the Miami Beach Community Church. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown of white marquisette made with lace midriff. The bodice had a square cut neck line edged with lace and short puff sleeves. The full gathered skirt was trimmed in bands of the lace. Her veil of illusion was fingertip length held in place with orange blossoms and she carried brides roses. For something "old" the bride carried a 100-year-old handkerchief sent to her by her grandmother. Miss Margaret Reynolds, sister of the bride was maid of honor. Her gown of yellow marquisette was made with floor length full skirt. She carried an arm bouquet of talisman roses. Mrs. K. J. Bayless was brides matron. Her gown was fashioned of blue marquisette, like that of the maid's and she carried yellow roses. Both wore head dresses of matching flowers. A. L. Booth was best man for Mr. Haller. The bride came here seven years ago with her parents from Evanston, Ill. She was graduated from Miami Senior High School and attended the University of Miami. Mr. Haller is a native of Philippi, West Virginia, and a graduate of the Philippi High School. He has been here about six years and is associated with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company of Miami. Following a brief honeymoon trip the young couple will reside at 124 Avenue Mendoza.

Country Club To be Scene Of 'Dances'
What's new in slacks, play, suits or other comfortable summertlme regalia will pass in review at the Country Club of Coral Gables Friday and Saturday nights when club members and guests will be permitted to attend the dances in all out comfort. Once each summer, the Club makes this concession to enable the dancers to forget ole man weather and to take full advantage of the cooling breezes in the palm lined patio. This proposition should be especially welcome to the male contingent who for once will be on more or less an equal basis with the ladies in their revealing attire. There will also be a special booth for parking shoes to accommodate those desiring to do a barefoot rhumba. To be more specific, these "beat the heat" dances will be sponsored by the Club and A. S. P. Fraternity Friday night, and by the Club at the regular Saturday night dance.

Last Monday Mrs. Ralph Block won the first honors at the bridge, with Mrs. James C. Ray carrying off second prize. However, there were four tables in play last week.
