Save Old Auto Tags, OPM Plea

The Federal Government, through the Conservation Section of OPM, has requested that all citizens cooperate with State License Tag officials in the conservation of 1941 and previous years tags. Conservation of old tags is not compulsory but merely a request, says Henry E. Driggers, Motor Vehicle Commissioner, and he is notifying all tag agents to request owners of 1941 license plates to turn in their old tags and carry them to purchasing 1942 tags, or as soon thereafter as possible. Driggers says that in early spring trucks will gather these old tags and carry them to Raiford, where they will be packed and held for disposal by the government during the present defense emergency. Mr. Driggers wishes to state that the saving of old metal tags is purely voluntary but he hopes that each car owner will cooperate in this emergency, as it will mean the saving of several hundred tons of steel. Motor Vehicle Commissioner Driggers has been notified by the Conservation Division of OPM that there is a scarcity of steel, in the following language: "It is also hoped that measures will be taken by the States to provide some means of a substitute for 1943 tags inasmuch as it is very doubtful that steel will be available for that purpose."

Ponce Students To Stage Carnival

A Sadie Hawkins Day theme has been established for the Ponce de Leon High School student council carnival which will be held November 8 at the school gym and athletic field. A Sadie Hawkins V will reign over the carnival to which the general public has been invited. School clubs and organizations will have different concessions on the field and tennis courts while the gym will be used for dancing. This will mark the first carnival attempted by the institution in the last seven years.

Precinct 106 and 108 voters will ballot for district 5 candidates at Sam's Service Station while those residing in 104 and 105 will vote at the Coconut Grove School. At the same time voters will ballot on the millage which has been recommended as 21⁄2 by the school board. Superintendent James T. Pulp and Paper Industry Becomes Important To State

The recent movement of the pulp and paper industry into the South has brought a new and profitable industry to Florida. The five mills already located in the sftate represent an investment of $84,000,000 and annual payroll of more than $2,000,000 A daily production of 2,090 tons of pulp calls for 2,125 units of pulping wood daily or 600,000 units annually. Approximately a million acres of land would be required full time to supply this need. Actually, the pulpwood industry is able to use trees that are crooked or straight stemmed fast growing or slow growing, limby or clean boled, thrifty or stunted, thereby utilizing a considerable portion of otherwise wasted wood and meeting a portion of its requirements incidental to the production of other forest crops.

Michael Doyle Heads New Show At Tepee Club

Last night a completely new Tepee made its bow to Coral Gables residents with a new show that is easily the finest entertainment this spot has presented since its opening two years ago. Headed by the famous Michael Doyle, who has been the star-attraction at the Miami Beach Bar of Music for the past several months; the cast includes such talented youngsters as the Eden twins, Mickey Barrie, Folie Miller, Hal Edwards and Hugo Roldan. The Eden twins are a pair of beautiful girls whose dancing and singing have charmed audiences all over the East. They have been currently appearing at the Bali prior to this engagement. Mickey Barrie, a half-pint torch singer whose size belies the quality of her singing, has long been a favorite with Miamians as has Folie Miller, the girl whose acrobatics have brought her fame in almost all the night spots of Miami. Hal Edwards, newest addition to Tepee EmCeeing plus Hugo Rollin at the solovox complete the cast of talent in the show. Of equal importance to the new show is the completely altered appearance of the Tepee. The entire room has been redecorated under the hand of Jay Eggleston, new operator of the Tepee. Grass thatched roofs now slant over the bar and side wall booths, while the latter are separated by bamboo drops. The bandstand has been rebuilt to resemble a thatched hut and the dance floor has been railed in with palm branches. The entire room has been completely relighted to eliminate glare and one whole wall, in back of the bar has been lined with mirrors.

PINE MAKES ITS DEBUT

A new member has been added to Shulton's family of early American toiletries—Early American Pine. From the New England woods comes a group of bath accessories in soap, bath oil and bubble bath. Is there anything more refreshing than the crisp, pungent scent of pine woods? The nostalgia of summer days is brought to the bat hin Shulton's new toiletries.
