In the Women's World
For football games, winter resorts and sports wear, this white baby lamb coat with gabardine collar and front panel. Such excellent detailing as hammered metal buttons, braid embroidery and gay red lining, make it look twice as expensive as it really is. Acces-sories may be red, black or defense blue. The patriotic or victory color scheme is still a la mode. A white jeweled or embroidered calot would be provokingly naive. (From Lanz of Salzburg)
This'll Solve Your Problem For Thanksgiving No.2
By PHILIP LEWIS Now that Mayor Whitley has decreed two Thanksgiving Days for the fortunate people of Cor-al Gables it becomes necessary for us to have two Thanksgiv-ing dinners. I have planned a dinner which boasts variety and will, as well, satisfy the sharp-ened appetite which comes with this traditional feast day. Pate de Foie Gras in Aspic Celery Olives Radishes Fresh Cream of Oyster Soup Roast Stuffed Turkey Giblet Sauce Cranberry Jelly Mashed Yams with Marshmallows Fresh Peas Pineapple and Cheese Salad Pumpkin Pie Fruits Nuts Raisins Coffee Creme de Menthe Frappe Pate de Foie Gras In Aspic Remove fat from jar of pate de foie gras, cut piece of truf-fle small and stick them into pate. (Truffles are the black mushrooms on top of pate after opening jar.) Take a small ring mould, pour a little aspic in bottom of mould, let set. Lay the pate, cut in pieces, all around with slices of hard boiled eggs alternately. Pour rest of aspic over all. Put in ice box until set. Remove on platter de-corated with lettuce watercress, serve as appitizer. Fresh Cream of Oyster Soup Put one and one half pints of oysters on stove in their own juice, let come to boil, cool. Re-move oysters, grind very fine. Put 4 tablespoons butter in pan on stove, let melt, stir in 4 tablespoons flour, cook 2 or 3 minutes. Add oyster liquid with 5 to 6 cups of milk. Let cook slowly, and 1⁄2 cup cream, add ground oysters. Season with salt and pepper, and a dash or two of Worchester Sauce. Roast Turkey Singe, clean, and wash tur-key, sprinkle inside with salt and pepper Toast enough bread to fill bird add 1 cup finely chopped parsley, 1 tablespoon thyme, salt and pepper (If boiled chestnuts are used, omit parsley.) Mix all well, soften with 1 cup stock. Stuff bird, roast until done. Giblet Sauce Cook Giblets until done with a little cut onion. Grind fine, set aside until ready to use. Make gravy when turkey is done. Mashed Yams With Marshmellows Boil yams until done. Peel and mash adding only butter. Butter a casserole dish, spread yams evenly. Cover with whole marshmallows, brown in slow oven. Pineapple and Cheese Salad Place a slice of canned pine-apple on a leaf of lettuce, make a ball of cream cheese and place in the centre of pineapple. Chill, serve with french dressing. And Now For a Few Hints When having a hamburg dinner next time try it this way. To one pound of ground meat add a grated onion and 3⁄4 cup of milk. Mix well, and drop in ungreased pan of desirable size, or to the above amount add 1 cup sour cream. If you don't like the domes-tic wine, do this. Bring to a boil slowly, add enough sugar to taste, add gelatine as direc-ted and you have a nice wine jelly. If and when you make a blueberry pie, use only the fol-lowing and you have what you set out to make. 1⁄2 cup brown sugar 11⁄2 tablespoons flour 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/8teaspoon nutmeg No butter or liquid. This receipe is for 1 quart of berries, uncooked. Filling 4 cups pumpkin (cooked) 4 eggs (unbeaten) 1 cup sugar Juice and rind 1 lemon 11⁄2 cups cream 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon cloves 1 teaspoon mace 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon ginger 1 teaspoon allspice 2 tablespoons brandy Mix eggs with cooked pump-kin, add sugar, lemon juice and rind, slices of cream. Fill pie crust very full. Bake in hot oven till nice and brown on top, about 25 minutes. Serve cold.
Grey broantai rivals black this year. Here, a model which features several 1941 fur trends is worn. It has the new soft shoulders, full sleeves gathered into tight cuffs, scroll collar and boxy lines. With it she wears a skull cap of white felt trim-med with white birds. (From De Pinna, N. Y.)

Lovely Lana Turner, the last word in Hollywood glamour, pic-tured here with the very becoming new pompadour, hair-do. Miss Turner also effects the new cluster earrings.
Knife pleats and fine scallops make this grey wool jersey mod-el an "important" date frock for young under graduates. Many designers are using sports fabrics for dress-up frocks, and jersey is the favorite. This dress also features an embroidered pastel floral motif and long torso line. (From Lanz of Sals-burg)
Brown Safari Seal is one of the most popular furs this year. C. B. S. actress Bonnie Dona-hue models a fitted coat, suit-able for both sports wear and dressy occasions. It features the small scroll collar that may be worn up or flat, loose sleeves and suede belt with metal buckle. Notice her matching hat and bag in wool plaid. (Coat from De Pinna)
New version of the classic styled rabbit hair sports dress it o.k. with C.B.S. star Char-lotte Manson of the "Stepmoth-er" series of programs, who models it here. Of Juilliard wool in high shades, the frock fea-tures a convertible neck, front fullness, large pockets and an OK gilt buckle. Charlotte has wisely chosen one of the new gold hues which is particularly good with her dark hair and eyes. (University frock No. 702)
Classic sports clothes are pre-ferred by many smart women. A softly tailored two-piece sports dress in sand colored rabbit hair wool with yoke and banding of tan bark and heart beat red. Her snap brim felt hat and acces-sories of tan bark tie the tri-colored ensemble together. (From Broadway-Hollywood)
Diary of a Beauty Authority
By HELENA RUBENSTEIN (In this column, offered as a special feature to our women readers, Helena Rubenstein, the famous beauty authority, tells you how to budget beauty as you budget food.) NEW YORK—Can a person have an adequate diet for six or seven dollars a week? Can a woman give her skin scientific, intelligent beauty care on six or seven cents a day? These are questions which are asked me over and over again by women who are eager for beauty, but whose budgets are limited. The answer to both questions is "Yes". All that is required is a little care-ful planing. The most beautiful women I know plan their beau-ty budgets a year ahead. Their plan includes provision for daily home beauty care, for special treatments which their skins need from time to time, and an extra allowance for emergen-cies and luxuries. Like a housewife planning for her family, the beauty-wise wo-man watches for opportunities to make her budget stretch as far, as possible. For practical purposes, there are five main classifications into which the cosmetic diet can be divided, which correspond roughly to the food diet. What we think of as staple foods, for example, such as milk, butter sugar and eggs are par-alleled in beauty care by cleansing. Just as good health cannot be maintained without these foods beauty cannot be maintained without correct cleansing. One fifth of the beau-ty budget should be set aside for cleansing preparations. The second allowance in a budget is for meat, fish, etc., which are of utmost importance in building body energy. In beauty the corresponding item is a night cream to keep the skin smooth, supple and young. Vegetables, rich in protective vitamins and yet easy on the budget, also play an important part in any diet. Stimulation and toning are corresponding part of a beauty diet. A stimu-lant applied lightly to the skin just before the night cream, whips up the circulation and makes the skin twice as recep-tive to the benefits of the rest of the treatment. A skin toning lotion to close the pores after the daily treatment freshens up the skin and leaves it smooth (Continued on Page 7)
