Publishers Name Codrington New FPA President
Clayton Codrington of DeLand was elected president of the Florida Press Association at the final session of a three day convention held last week in Ocala, Fla. Mr. Codrington succeeds Russell Kay of Tampa, who holds the post of secretary in the newly elected official staff. The meeting held at the Hotel Marion, covered the field of journalism from new legislation to industrial potentialities. The delegates were welcomed to Ocala by Mayor M. C. Izlar, addressed by experts in the field of law, advertising and journalism, and were dined by the management of Silver Springs. Principal speakers at the banquet which highlighted the convention were Don Blanding, poet laureate of Florida, and Wilton Hall, publisher of the Anderson (S. C.) Independent. Other speakers at the sessions were Dave Kepper of Blackett-Sample-Hummert Inc. advertising counselor of the Florida Citrus Commission; Francis Cooper of the University of Florida's Extension Division; H. I. Mossbarger, director of the Florida Research Foundation; Robert Miller, State Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division; Kenneth Ballinger of the Attorney General's office, and Francis Bridges, chairman of the Florida Parole Commission. George Hosmer, Gilbert Leach, and John Lochner made committee reports. Of special interest was the talk of Mr. Miller on the Wage and Hour Law who explained the law's application to newspapers in the state. Introduced to the association as a new member was Albert E. Harum, publisher of the Riviera, who was accompanied to the convention by Mrs. Harum.

Gilbert, entertainment and decorations, Harold Miller, Victor Taggert and Ione Heath.
Gregor Lecture Set for Sunday
The dance as an inspiration for musical composition will be the subject of the lecture to be given by Henry Gregor, of the University of Miami, music department, on Sunday at the Music Work Shop. Mr. Gregor will illustrate his lecture with music of such various composers as Bach, Handel and Chopin. "Bach and Handell have been influenced in the suite in most of their compositions, by the dance. The Sarabande, Minuet, Gavotte, Allemande, Courante, Gigue, and many others are types of dance forms used," Gregor says. "A composer who would be known to few were it not for his waltzes is Chopin. Grieg, Albeniz, DeFalla have all used national melodies extensively. One great product of the Russian Ballet for which he has written much music. One of the most successful pieces in our concert halls is the "Bolero" by Ravel, which is completely built around the dance rhythm and melody. The influence of the dance form is found practically everywhere in the music of classic and modern composers," he points out. Mr. Gregor will play many selections from new and old music to demonstrate these facts. The public is cordially invited to attend this lecture-recital.

PRIVATE FLYING SAFER
Private flying is getting safer each day. Figures released by the United States civil aeronautics administration show that the year 1940 was a safer year in proportion to the number of miles flown than any preceding year on which comprehensive records were kept. This record was established in the face of greatly increased private flying activity. Reports for 1940 show that there was an average of only one fatal accident in each million miles of private flying in the United States.

Scanning the Screen
Lovely, golden-haired Ilona Massey plays the title role in "International Lady" playing Sunday and Monday at the Gove. She appears as a secret agent for an international spy ring and saboteurs. The map of the world is the theatre of her operation. It looks like warfare between Bob Hope and Leif Erickson, but it's all in and for fun in "Nothing but the Truth," now showing at the Grove Theatre.
Mrs. Thomas P. Caldwell Plays Little Girl Role in League Play
Mrs. Thomas P. Caldwell plays the role of a trader's little girl in the Junior League current play "Sky-Stone", a three act play written by Nora Tully being presented at the Miami Temple Theater for four matinees this week starting Monday at 2:30 p. m. and at the Miami Beach Senior High school on Friday afternoon for a 3:30 matinee. The play is produced by the Miami Junior League Players, under the auspices of the Miami Children's Theater and is directed by Granville Fisher. The setting is an Indian "Pueblo" or City in New Mexico and every effort has been carried out in giving an authentic description of the life in one of these villages. Mrs. Raymond Edwards plays the lead—the role of "Quico" a young Indian boy. The Children's Theater is a non profit organization made up of representative groups of various community organizations for the purpose of providing cultural entertainment for the largest number of children. "Sky-Stone" is the first of three productions which the Theater will present this season the second being "The Adventures of Marco Polo" by Saul Lancourt. This is a Junior Programs production from New York city and will feature well known stage and radio stars. This will be in Miami December 2 and 3 at the Miami Beach High school and the Miami Senior High school. The third production will be Molka Reich's marionettes in "The Happy Prince" by Oscar Wilde. At this time there will also be a music appreciation program by the University of Miami Symphony. Season tickets are on sale for these productions at the Coral Gables Elementary school until after this week. Single tickets for each production will be sold in the schools prior to their presentation.
