Schenckley Park Kitten Finds Kin, Scribe Meets Owner

By PEGGY GORDON Riviera-Times Correspondent Miss Sniff, our erstwhile kitten, sniffed about this last week and discovered her very own sister- And since they had so much in common it seemed appropriate that I, as a foster parent, inquire about the other's adopted parent. And who should it be, but one of the Mimolos of the Mile, Josef! An amazing personality, too, with all his interests. Not the least of which is painting, and according to his neighbor, not only is he a good cook but generous to all those living near him with some of his original dishes. Josef's main interest at the moment, however, is his radio program he is sponsoring over WIOD at 2 p. m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Being a friendly sort of person he is naturally being sought for advice on different radio stations. Josef is an expert on antiques and through his interest in collecting, he has met many famous people, many of whom may be found seeking his expert advice at his home, 2029 SW 57th Court. Speaking of radio programs and famous being up the line Jimmy MacMahan was making of his time while recuperating from the usual "fluish type" of setback he had last week. It proved very productive in that he accomplished most of the major outlines for a Variety show he is planning for WBAY. The talented Jimmy is also hard at work thinking up some original ideas for the Style Show the Coral Gables Country Club is going to put on the night of December 12. And we have little doubt, knowing Jimmy, that they will be one style show that will take the stigma off the name, for he is also going to do the commenting. Professor and Mrs. Donald Cook are having a wonderful reunion with Mrs. Cook's brother, David Bronson, and his charming wife, of Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Bronsons finally arrived in our beautiful city after a 5,000-mile trip, traveling from their home to the East and visiting in Massachusetts and Washington, D. C. They graciously made our hearts swell with pride when they said that Coral Gables was absolutely the most beautiful city they had seen of their tour and had the finest combination of features. Besides the beauty, they were so impressed with the shopping center and the fact that a city this size should be without a slum district. Mr. Bronson is a former newspaper man, having at one time owned and operated a daily in New Mexico. The good-natured kidding that exists between the relatives gives a delightful formula for visiting kin-folks, for the Professor and his cousin in say, "you know we are delighted to see these folks and wish they would stay two or three months, tho' the old adage says guests, like cats, stink after three days!" And another bit of jostling came from Mr. Bronson when he said he did have a confession to make and that was that he had exchanged his old love, his wife, for his new Oldsmobile! Trite evident that the Bronsons are having a bang-up trip thanks to the new car. We sincerely hope that the anticipated visit to Mr. Mrs. Bronson's brother in St. Petersburg will prove as successful a family gathering as this one. Odoreous Pets Last week we mentioned the unsavory odors that emerged from underneath Mrs. Canaday's house which proved to be baby skunks. This a. m. an SOS came from Mrs. George McLaughlin with a similar story. The only solution we've found is to catch said animals with tail down, de-skunk and make into pets! Mrs. McLaughlin claims her gardner offered this advice, and Mr. K. E. Callander, 5901 SW 31st St., we are informed, is very eager to have a couple for pets! Schenley Park is very pleased to welcome Olga Santini, famous opera singer, who recently purchased a home at 1705 Tercia Avenue. Her husband, Isadore Berger, well-known violinist, will join her as soon as his present engagement in Chicago is terminated. Also on the newcomer list are Mr. and Mrs. O. H. McMillan and nine-month-old son who moved into their lovely new home just three weeks ago at 5701 SW 26th Street.

Embry-Riddle Starts Operation

Full scale operation of the Embry-Riddle School of Aviation at its new location on the Opa-locka airport is announced today by John G. McKay, president. The transfer of the flight division from Chapman Field, where it was forced to return due to flood waters, has been completed and all schedules, both G. I. and private, are back to normal. The technical division has vacated the Coral Gables Coliseum and now occupies the entire east side of Hangar No. 3 at Opa-locka. The Coliseum has been leased as a sports arena and will be opened as such next month. The Disaster Relief of the American Red Cross has taken over the offices in the Aviation Building which until a few days ago were occupied by executives and administrative personnel of the aviation company. Veteran and non-veteran students have moved from the dormitories in the Aviation Building and now enjoy the facilities of former bachelor officers' quarters on the airport. McKay further announced that in due time the Embry-Riddle Instrument overhaul division at the 20th Street Airport will be transferred to the Opa-locka base.

The pocketbook contained a pair of glasses, valued at $20 and $0.50 in cash.

Voters Roll Studied for New Precincts

The staff of the city clerk's office was busy today counting the number of registered voters in various areas in Coral Gables in an effort to set up precinct boundaries for the March 2 election on a gas franchise. City Clerk E. B. Poorman, who estimated Friday that a multiple precinct election would be used for the first time in Gables history, said that the counting process would take approximately a week. When areas of population density are determined, Poorman plans to present the proposed precinct boundaries to the city commission for final approval. Tentative voting places for the three precincts which will be established include city hall, the Country Club of Coral Gables and the University of Miami. Voting at municipal elections has previously been restricted to city hall. The Country Club and University of Miami have been used in state and county elections.

Cee Vee Offers Lunch Service

Businessmen's lunches, rushed right to your office, are one of the new catering services being emphasized by the Cee Vee Delicatessen, located at 140 Avenue Madeira. "With the busy Winter season coming on, many business people in the Gables will find themselves too busy to take time for a regular lunch hour," said George Popper, new proprietor of the Cee Vee. "It is to these we hope to cater with our quick delivery service." Mr. and Mrs. Popper also announced that they will prepare sandwiches for private and club parties and for fishing parties bound for a day on bay or ocean. Meanwhile, the shop and restaurant just around the corner from Ponce de Leon Boulevard, offers full line of delicatessen products, including cold cuts, salads, grocery items, beer, wine and hot dishes. She told Gables police that three nuts had been taken from one wheel of the vehicle which had been parked in the rear of Carl's Market.

PONCE NEWS New Information Service Guides Visitors at School

By DENIS O'DONOVAN and PAULINE MARKS "Which building is which?" This frequent query of visitors will bring a prompt, courteous answer when Ponce's Student Council establishes its new Information Desk soon. Headed by Secretary of the Interior Allen McCormick, a staff of Student Councillers will man the desk all six periods, ready to greet and direct visitors. "Our first Student Council noon-time dance was a terrific success," enthused Allen, "and we have scheduled one each month." According to a telegram just received, Darryl McCall, Ponce's star debater last year, has been awarded a position on the University of Florida debate team and will journey to Austin, Tex., to lock horns with the University of Texas team. Importance of tolerance in modern life was stressed by Dr. I. T. Anyone who would like to hire an industrious Key Club boy next Saturday, November 15, should call President Bob Prahl at 4-3627. Key Clubbers will hold their annual Father-Son Banquet next Monday. At this banquet the boys' fathers become acquainted with the work of the honor service organization and with the fathers of other boys in the club.
