SPORTS PARADE By Oscar Fraley

United Press Sports Writer NEW YORK, Nov. 13. (UP) - Lucky for some and unlucky for others, Fraley's follies or the weekend football "winners." NATIONAL Michigan over Wisconsin-Battle for Rose Bowl tickets with the Wolverines having too many guns. Michigan is a 13-point choice and figures to win by more. Alabama over Georgia Tech-The Crimson Tide is rising and should inundate Tech in this pick 'em tilt. Alabama has been coming strong and Tech looked far from a powerhouse in its last two tests. EAST Army over Penn-The bluegrass special. Navy over Penn State-And the dessert. Yale over Princeton-Am I blue. Columbia over Holy Cross-Tossing the Crusaders to the Lions. Brown over Harvard-A Bear market. Colgate over Syracuse-By a slim six. Also: Cornell over Dartmouth; Villanova over Georgetown; P & M. over Ursinus; Michigan State over Temple; Rutgers over NYU; Lafayette over Fordham; Clemson over Duquesne; Lehigh over Carnegie Tech; Boston U. over Kings Point, and Buffalo over Bucknell. EAST OF THE GRAND CANYON St. Bernard over West Georgia-Walk or with snow. Tonkawa over Bacone-Bringing home the fatback. Pratt over Baca-Prowers-Take it away. MIDWEST Minnesota over Iowa-Gopher balls. Illinois over Ohio State-Lot of fuss for a wooden turtle. Missouri over Oklahoma-The devils, they say. Notre Dame over Northwestern-Too much, too early. Kansas over Oklahoma Aggies-Quit squeezin'. Also, Indiana over Marquette; Purdue over Pitt; Iowa State over Kansas State; and Detroit over St. Louis. SOUTH Duke over South Carolina-A tasty morsel. LSU over Mississippi State-Bayou bias, by jabers. Georgia over Auburn-The old gray mare ain't, etc. North Carolina over Maryland-The man with the scales. Also: Virginia over West Virginia; B.C. over Tennessee; Mississippi over Chatanooga; VMI over Citadel; Wake Forest over North Carolina State; Tulane over (Please Turn to Page Seven)

Tough Tilt Predicted For Cav-Jax Clash

Can the Cavaliers put the "whammy" on the Jackson Generals again this year? That is the question that will be answered some 48 minutes of playing time after the Ponce de Leon High school lukewarm football team takes the Field against an even-odd array of Miami Jackson talent on the Orange Bowl turf at 8:15 tonight. Coach Johnny Noppenberg of the Gables squad says it will be a tough nut to crack the well-rounded Generals for enough points to get his team ahead, and then it'll be an even neater trick to hold off the enemy until another upset can be safely recorded in the books. Gone are his weekly predictions that "My team can do anything." The fabulous Noppenberg optimism has been too far ahead of the Cavaliers' strength against the opposition ever since they walloped Lake Worth, 19-6, in the second game of the season. Last week, after the Cavaliers suffered their fourth straight disappointment at the hands of Tech's Blue Devils, Noppenberg's sunny face became a dirgeful: "I wonder when we're going to win a game?" His comment on tangling with the Generals can be confined to one word: "Surprises." Ponce will be out to fake the northwest sectionalists off the field. But beyond that, Noppenberg would not commit himself. 'Give Us Our Breaks' Coach Roy French of the Generals isn't worried so much about any extraordinary "surprises" the Cavaliers might spring-although one, the sudden shift to the short punt-formation, stalled off his Big Ten champions last year long enough to give Pone a 6-0 win. What's worrying the Jackson camp more is that the Cavaliers, after weeks of trudging through "tough-luck" ball games, might be favored with enough of the breaks plus a full-powered offense to turn the trick again. Both teams want this game in the worst way. The Generals because they took quite a belt in the prestige after they were tripped last season and want revenge; the Cavaliers because there isn't much of the season behind them that can be pointed to with pride and this win will put them back on the right track as one of the better prep teams in Miami. Lines Rated on Par In the line, the two teams are rated about even. Jackson opponents have tallied 89 points in eight games while the Cavaliers have given up 84 in half a dozen contests. So the difference between the Generals' record of seven wins and one loss and Ponce's 2-4 lies in the backfield, where the Stonewallers have the best-balanced combination of any team in this area. One dependable ball-carrier, Sonny Cleveland, is reported out of tonight's clash, but French will have Sonny Hinson, Hal Leggett, Caruthers and Rothman ready for action. On the local side, Noppenberg plans to use Jack Stahl, Malcolm Johnson, Jim Byrd and Doug Presley for the kick-off. Perhaps one of this quartet can repeat Jack (Please Turn to Page Seven)

SPORTS SCORE CARD Bob Downes Selects All-Time Hurricane Squad By DON CUDDY

SPORTS CORAL GABLES SCORE CARD Bob Downes Selects All-Time Hurricane Squad By DON CUDDY When you talk about University of Miami football past and present (and maybe otherwise, too)... better check your opinion with Bob Downes, the economics professor out at school who has his finger on the pulse of every Hurricane team for a score of years. This week in Flotsam, the campus humor magazine, he selected an All-Time Hurricane team in a special section of the monthly devoted to 21 years of Miami football. The entire section makes interesting reading, but we've been anxious to find out how Hurricane teams of the past stack up, and Downes presents it. All-Time Hurricanes First Team | Second Team Roger Ashman | Right End | Walter Kichefski Stan Raski | Right Tackle | Tom Kearns Walter Dansky | Right Guard | Edward Cameron Harvey James | Center | William Kimbrough Charles Guimento | Left Guard | Evan Lindstrom Nicholas Wolcuff | Left Tackle | Charles Heckman Robert Masterson | Left End | Frank Paszkewich Andrew Czakv | Quarterback | John Douglas Edward Dunn | Halfback | Russell Coates Cliff Courtney | Halfback | John Noppenberg Terry Fox | Fullback | Robert McDougal Easter Game Now Leading off the article is the explanation that in the early years a capable first-string player would start the game with the knowledge that he would probably have to play 60 minutes, or close to it, and, in order to select two teams from so many outstanding stars, Downes explains, "it was decided to base selections only on those playing regularly three full varsity years. "For this reason, great performers like Cliff Courtney were also eliminated from the selection. Bill Steiner, a brilliant back, played two seasons and then gave up the game; George Edwards and Bill Horton were two of the greatest guards to ever represent Miami-but they played only one year. Dave Wike (presently trainer of the varsity) was on his way to stardom when injury caused his retirement. Others in this group were Paul Carifeo (center, and now assistant basketball coach); Church Klein (now physical director at the Miami Beach YMHA); Pete Petrowski (guard); Ray Gorman (end); Joe Dixon (center), and the justly-famed Arnold Tucker, a back who went on to further fame with Army's touchdown twins, Davis and Blanchard." Of the players listed on the first string, Downes says: ASHMAN and MASTERSON at ends, although ten years apart, were identical in their play. Speed, aggressiveness and endurance were their assets. No offense ever went around or through them. As pass receivers they were superb. They would make any college team. Masterson played ten years of professional football with the Washington Redskins. "RASKI and WOLCUFF at tackles also had much in common. Both were powerful men, though Raski was somewhat heavier. Any coach would be proud of these players, including the professional ranks where the New York Giants were bolstered by Wolcuff's aggressiveness. Guimento "Modern" Guard "The guards, DANSKY and GUIMENTO, were two different stylists. Dansky-slow, powerful, enduring, was so superior as a defensive player that his weaknesses on the offense were minimized. Guimento was the coaches' answer to a modern guard. Light, fast, intelligent (Please Turn to Page Seven)

Kramer Jump To Tennis In Big League

NEW YORK, Nov. 13. (UP)-Professional tennis has been hopefully skirting the fringes of big-time money for a long time now, but today it looked as though a Chicago promoter was about to arrive. Jack Harris was the promoter to sign Jack Kramer for a nation-wide tour which will start here Dec. 26 at Madison Square Garden, and the $50,000 guarantee awarded Kramer is the largest sum ever paid a netter. But that apparently is only the beginning. Dinny Pails, the Australian Davis Cup star, was winging his way towards the U.S. to get together with Harris, and there were persistent reports that Francisco (Pancho) Segura soon would join the play-for-pay crew. Pro tennis was just getting started when the war nipped its possible bloom in the bud. It only now, apparently, is recovering. With Kramer and Bobby Riggs lined up for his tour, Harris has a main attraction. And he is well established on a program to get a top supporting card. One report from Australia said that Pails already has signed with Harris for $30,000, even though Pails himself said he was merely coming to the U.S. to "talk" with the romoter. Segura, the curly-haired Ecuadorean who grips his racquet as though it were a baseball bat, denied in Buenos Aires that he was turning pro. However, in revealing that he had been offered $25,000, Segura left himself a loophole. The former University of Miami star said that "he was not ready" to enter professional ranks, but Segura did not say how soon he thought the time would be ripe. Earlier this week, Gardner Mulloy said that his former teammate would enter the play-for-pay ranks this year.

Country Club Courts In For Face-Lifting Macey Announces

The Country Club of Coral Gables tennis courts may be in for "face lifting" before tournament and match play starts there about a month from now, according to Ike Macey, tennis pro. The eventual reconversion-which would dispose of the green granular top dressing and resurface the layout with new clay-is on the experimental stage, Macey said. Dressing Gets Slippery "The value of the top dressing, of course, is that it gives better visibility and dries faster than the clay immediately after the rain. However, the disadvantage is that the dressing, dries out and becomes slippery, (Please Turn to Page Seven)
