Riddle College Smothers Edison Five, 100 to 37

Godwin Leads Scoring Within Tallies

McDonald Uses Superior Height To Control Ball Riddle Inter-American College's first basketball team left little doubt in the minds of their supporters that the Leo Boles-coached squad is on its way to a grand-slam season as they racked up an even hundred points to swamp Thomas Edison Junior College of Fort Myers on the Miami Edison High school court last night. Capitalizing on the height of Marckey McDonald, Avron Bryan and Bill Zimmerman, all former Miami Edison cagers, to control the backboards, the Riddlers rolled up a 41-15 half time advantage and with the dam broken bettered their tally after the intermission. Bill Godwin netted 17 points for the evening's work, with Sid Walker and Zimmerman one and two counters behind. The Riddlers ham-strung the visitors with down-court checking throughout the final miutes of play. With Don Neeley, former Homestead captain and Howard Obrentz stealing the ball four times in the last two minutes and feeding to Alan Gibbs, Bob Behanna, and Chuck Nichols, they made the century mark without much objection from the Fort Myers crew. Joe Stafford, of Edison, was the only thing that could match the scoring power of the fast-breaking Riddlers. He got 21 points on eight scrimmage tosses and five charity throws to lead the field. After a lay-off tomorrow for Thanksgiving, the victorious Riddle squad will resume practice Saturday morning for their game with Miami Naval Air Station on the same court Monday night.
