28,000 Expected to Watch Prep School Shrine Classic
More than 28,000 Greater Miamians are expected to converge on the Orange Bowl stadium tonight to witness what should be a thrilling football game between once-beaten Miami Senior and undefeated McKeesport High schools, a colorful pre-game pageant featuring Joan Loball and the Mahi Shrine Temple at 7:50 p. m. and an even more elaborate intermission show directed by Al Wright. At the same time, they will pour quite a few thousands of dollars in the Temple's fund for work in the crippled children's hospitals maintained by the Shriners. The Christmas night game, patterned after the famed East-West contest in San Francisco which has aided thousands of crippled children, is in its second year. Last year, Lynn Classical High from Massachusetts, defeated Granby High of Norfolk, Va., 21-14 in a ding dong battle which netted more than $10,000 for the hospitals. This year's game, which from indications of the advance ticket sales will top the 1946 attendance figures, should provide even more money for the coffers devoted to the charitable work.

Miami High's Stingarees will be up against one of the most rugged center-of-the-line aggregations in prep football when they face these four McKeesport, Pa., Tigers in the Mahi Shrine game at the Orange Bowl tonight. Left to right, the quartet which has two years of starting game experience together, stands: Wallter "The Rock" Kustra, guard; Bill Diamond, tackle; George Mekonic, tackle, and Dan "The Moose" DiMucci, guard. Diamond was flown to Miami on a special trip after his mother's death delayed departure with the team.
Riddle Plays U-M Frosh At Coliseum Feb. 27
University of Miami athletic department officials announced this morning that Riddle Inter-American College has been sighed to play the Hurricane freshman team as a preliminary to the varsity game with Florida Southern College at the Coral Gables Coliseum on Friday, Dec. 27. The game comes after the junior college's quintet will have completed it's 24-game schedule against St. Petersburg Junior College in a two-game series on Feb. 20 and 21, while Southern is the last regular-season opponent on the Hurricane schedule. Three mutuel opponents within the state, Tampa, Florida Southern and Stetson, appear on both school's schedule but it is contrary to athletic policy at the University to schedule games with junior colleges, and Riddle Coach Leo Bolees agreed to play the jayvee team for the smaller school's only appearance in the Coliseum this year. In addition, the Hurricane yearlings have games booked with area high school teams, the first being against Miami Beach tomorrow night as a preliminary to the Pittsburgh game, and another next week with Miami Edison preceding the Pennsylvania encounter.

Is a Moocher A Good Omen?
"Is a grey fox (rare in Florida) coming up to the 19th hole for a sandwich a good omen?" That's the question being pondered by Wilbur "Umpa" Clark at the Biltmore Golf Course as he watched golfers with Christmas present-new clubs trying out their woods and irons this morning. Only a lingering bunch of such golfers were present on the municipal Biltmore and Granada courses today, while over at the Riviera Country Club pro Leonard Ott was counting a fair holiday turnout also.

Testimonial to the strength of of the opposing Kansas and Georgia Tech lines for the 1948 Orange Bowl game: neither had a punt knocked against it all season.
