Plaza Now New Orleans For Today
Ole' New Orleans will be much in evidence this weekend at Central Shopping Plaza. A showboat will pull up to a prefabricated dock area this Thursday afternoon to begin a weekend of steam whistles, pagentry, color and old-time songs at the 37th Ave. and NW 7th St. center. A troup of dancers from the Jack Stanly Studio in Coral Gables will put on a New Orleans flavered show Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 and 9:20 p.m. Highlighting the 45-minute shows will be Margaret Thorne, Larry Duemmling and Jeffrie Ross from the Stanly Studio, who'll dance their way through a portion of the show. Finale of the weekend pagentry each night will be an old fashion song fest led by the showboat crew being constructed in the center by Hammond Organ Company. From 3 p.m. each day the showboat crew will roam the center in New Orleans attire, promoting the evening shows. A replica of the bayfront docks of New Orleans has been constructed in the center to moor the rear section of the showboat. All the color and gaiety of the olden days will be included in the festive weekend, which will find the center's employees decked out in derby hats.
