BY HELEN REYNOLDS From far away Bremerton, Washington comes news of the arrival of a baby daughter born to Lieut. and Mrs. Richard D. McGlathery. Mrs. McGlathery, the former Barbara Sandquist is the daughter of Commander and Mrs. O. A. "Sandy" Sandquist, Coral Gableites, now stationed in Norfolk, Va. Mrs. Sandquist, who journeyed to Washington writes, "Mt. Ranier—Beautiful country but don't like the climate—give me Coral Gables." The baby was born October 22nd, named "Davis Lowe". We all leave November 10th for Norfolk. The McGlathery's baby is Gailbraith —too, isn't that grand!! Surely miss my Coral Gables and my friends there. Laughing Gailbraith Toomey, (Murnor Photo) who will be ten months old, Armistice Day is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey Toomey, 3310 Alhambra Circle. Isn't Gailbraith a pretty name? Yes, it's family. Miss Eleanor Fuller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Fuller will arrive tonight from Valdosta, Ga., where she appeared with the Wesleyan Glee Club, (Wesleyan College, Macon, Ga.) last night. Miss Fuller will spend the week end, and incidently her fall leave from college, reporting back on Wednesday. . . . Mrs. A. W. Barrett will arrive home next week from a visit in Pittsburgh, Pa., her former home. She will be accompanied by Mrs. Sidney Wagner also of Pittsburgh who will be the house guest of the Barretts at 501 Alhambra Circle. Mrs. Howard Sullivan and her daughter, Mrs. A. J. Koswell and young daughter, Anne, have returned to reopen their home at 1244 Anastasia. They spent the summer in New Hampshire, mostly at Haverill, where they bought a summer home. Mr. and Mrs. Albert H. Gleason returned Monday night to their Columbus Boulevard home after nearly 9,000 miles of motor trips around the eastern seaboard, Chicago, Cincinati and Minneapolis. Their thoroughbred police dog, "Queenie" accompanied them. They saw many Coral Gableites during their stay in the Carolina and Great Smoky mountains and at one tea in New York counted eight friends who winter at Miami Beach. Mrs. S. Hill Gordon who looked very attractive in an all black outfit at the Coral Gables Woman's Club tea is announcing the names of the new members of the junior club, of which she is membership chairman. One or two transfers, Mrs. Walter Daniels and Mrs. Dwight Smith are included. The new ones are, Mrs. Curtis Haggard, Mrs. Jack O. Knowles, Mrs. James R. Lowry, Mrs. Charles J. Girtman, Mrs. T. J. Trout, Mrs. Arnold Mims, Miss Ruth Dieselhorst, Mrs. O. M. Weillslager, Mrs. Alex Webb, Mrs. W. G. Moseley, Mrs. Philip Siefert, Mrs. C. G. Gardner, Mrs. J. Mark Wilcox, Jr., Mrs. James Sottile, Jr., Mrs. B. W. Partridge, Mrs. Archie Morrison, Mrs. E. N. Belcher, Jr., Mrs. Bradford Ansley, Mrs. W. T. Babbitt, Mrs. Everett Clay, Mrs. W. A. Thagard, Mrs. Alexander Y. Hiss, Mrs. Richard Schmid, Mrs. William K. Jackson, Mrs. Atwood Dunwoody, Mrs. R. P. Aldridge, Mrs. Cecil Sledd, Mrs. Andy Tillman, Mrs. Joe Powell, Mrs. Hillard Willis, Mrs. N. L. Stevens, Mrs. F. B. Dawson, Mrs. William Simpson, Mrs. James Lyons, Mrs. Homer Frazier, Jr., Miss Nancy Gillham, Mrs. J. Alexander, Mrs. Carrington Gramling, Mrs. Lewis Lindsey, Miss Corinna Washburn, Miss Marie Smith and Mrs. Wells Bruen. Mrs. O. J. Morrison has returned from Charleston, West Va., to her home at 1219 Granada Boulevard for the winter. Her daughter, Mrs. Van Hidd and granddaughter, came down at the beginning of school to reopen the house. Miss Carolotta Lewis saw a lot of shows in New York on her recent vacation trip there. Enroute home she visited historic Williamsburg in her native state, Virginia. We hope George Copinus of New York, the new dancing master engaged to teach the "Junior Cotillion" of Coral Gables their ball room steps will wear the tight black knee breeches, long black silk stockings and patent leather slippers the dancing masters did in the old days. He probably won't. But the sub debs and extremely young freshmen who make up the thirty members (there is already a waiting list) of this cotillion will wear formal attire and gather every other Friday from 7:30 to 9:30 p. m. at the Woman's Club to learn grace and poise and how to mingle with each other in true ballroom manner. Congratulations to the founders. It is a refreshing note to know our youngsters may learn something constructive for society instead of learning to jitterbug. Mr. Copinus established like cotillions in North Carolina at the Biltmore Forest Country Club and the Grove Park Inn in Asheville. New Sevilla Avenue (that part from the 500 through the 700 blocks) is becoming a mecca for "old" Gableites. By old, we mean the ones who have lived for some time in other parts of the city. Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Zimmerman sold their home at 837 Avenue Navarre and have bought a new one at 636 Sevilla. Mrs. Zimmerman confesses the house seems smaller than the old one, altho they have three bedrooms and two baths. But Helene their only daughter is away at Woman's College (Tallahassee) now. . . . The Clyde Higgins' and the Mead Beebes are also new Sevilla "landers", in the 500 and 600 blocks. We welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to Coral Gables from a grand vantage point at the Miami Biltmore Hotel Tuesday, that of the ramp overlooking the hotel's ground or lower level. From our perch amid the prickly bougainvillea we saw the famous pair as usual dressed alike in gray-green tweeds. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Chapman who welcomed them were close on their heels in conventional black and looking very smart.

Over Two Hundred Attend Woman's Club Opening Day

Over two hundred members and guests were present Monday afternoon at the Coral Gables Woman's Club for the organization's opening reception and tea. Fall tones of yellow and orange flowers interspersed by fern formed the color scheme of the decorations which was further carried out by the dainty corsages of pom-pom chyrsanthemums worn by members of the receiving line. Among the out-of-town guests noted were those of Mrs. Charles J. Susong, club president, in turquoise with navy; Mrs. Dana McClendon, Junior club president, in white with red bolero and perky red feather beanie and Mrs. W. Dickie Oglesby in gray taffeta. Alternating in pouring at the tea tables were Mrs. Lewis W. Robinson in black lace, Mrs. Wade Lvingston proud all in white, Mrs. Louie Lanford in royal blue and Mrs. Evan D. Roser in white with red hip length jacket and matching hat. The program chairman, Mrs. Clyde Higgins, presented Jan and Wittold Turkiewicz, young pupils of the Miami Conserva- tory, who gave several numbers on violin and piano. Fred Riegel, tenor, and Mrs. Higgins each sang a group of songs. Mrs. Susong gave an appealing address of welcome to members and guests, emphasizing the particular need at this time for work, faith, courage and love. At the conclusion of the program refreshments were served by Mrs. L. E. Huguelet and Mrs. E. M. Pulham, hospitality chairman and the committee. Other attractive fall costumes seen in the crowd were those of Mrs. Charles J. Miller, in colorful print with red accessories, Mrs. Leonard C. Olson in rich tones of coral and green, Miss Margaret Beaton in black with tiny pill-box, Mrs. J. M. Good looked attractive in green with a black off the face hat and Mrs. Fred Grinham was smart all in navy. Mrs. George C. Kinsman wore pale pink, Mrs. George H. Colding, sheer black with blue feather hat and Mrs. G. G. Lee all white with red accessories.
