by HELEN REYNOLDS Pretty Miss Bettie Neese (A. Derby Pilkington photo) young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth W. Neese of 3905 Durango Street, really gets homesick for Alaska, her former home. The Neeses lived in Anchorage, Alaska, for ten years, moved there when Bettie was just a little girl. Bettie is attending Miss Harris' Florida School. Mr. Neese, now a pilot for Pan American Airways, formerly flew an Alaskan route. * * * Mr. and Mrs. W. Scott Deming are moving this week into their lovely new home at 2038 Granada Boulevard. Most of the furnishings were shipped down from their Indianapolis home and the Demings have been dividing their time between their home for many years at 1258 Alhambra Circle and arranging the new home since their arrival about three weeks ago. Granada Boulevard is building up fast and ground will be broken this week at 3900 for a very large residence along Colonial lines, to be built by the Batcheller Construction Company. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lambert's new Colonial home at 3403 Granada is fast nearing completion . * * * Entertaining at a series of informal dinners this fall are Dr. and Mrs. John Howard Ozias of 4408 Palmarito Road. On Wednesday they complimented James Pettit and William H. Richey, formerly of Quakertown, Pa., and Provincetown, Mass., who recently purchased a winter home on North Bay Island. Dr. and Mrs. Ozias, motorboat enthusiasts, expect to make their new "docks" at North Bay Island (79th Street Causeway) a port of call on their frequent curises aboard the "Aneres" this winter. Other guests at Wednesday's party included Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Carruthers, Mrs. Oscar Thompson of Miami Beach, Mr. and Mrs. William T. Mixson of Coral Gables. * * * Arriving for their fourth consecutive season at the Antilla Hotel are Dr. and Mrs. H. B. Siglar of Occoquan, Va. . . . Mrs. Ernest Stegner of Atlanta is the guest of Mrs. Grace E. May of 1119 Douglas Road. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Anderson, 4106 Palmarito Street, have returned to their winter home from New York. * * * It was a whirlwind of visits and sightseeing trips for Mrs. Fred Mallon, attractive winter visitor from Cleveland, Ohio, who spent last season with Mr. and Mrs. Harry N. Rath 617 Avenue Navarre, and who has returned for another season. Starting out April, Mrs. Mallon visited two sons, in Cleveland and Springfield, Mass., relatives and friends in Chicago, Denver, San Francisco. Did a bit of sightseeing in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas and visited more friends in New Orleans enroute to Coral Gables. * * * Have you noticed the majestic looking tower rising out of the arches entrance to the main building of the University of Miami lately? At a long last, that gaunt bit of architectural monstrosity is to be put to some good use. The finished tower, the gift of one of the trustees of the University, will house Aerial Training Film and his entire art studios. The new sky studios will be the last word. florescent lighting, etc. But, better than that, Pan American Airways, for the education of their flying cadets, both British and American, plan to install a sort of "flying" projecture room to be suspended from the second floor of the tower. A gallery will be built there where students may witness moving pictures and stills of planes in action from above; that is, the students will be looking down on the planes in motion, just as in real flying. * * * Yum-yum steaks cooked via the charcoal route and resin baked potatoes were served at the birthday party of Miss Mary Louise Perry Saturday night, when ten of her friends called to wish her "many more" at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wigman, "Curwig Pines," Hardee Drive, South Miami. Dancing followed supper in the outdoor patio. * * * Mrs. Howard Sullivan, assisted by her daughter, Mrs. A. J. Koswell, will entertain at an informal tea at 4:30 P. M. Sunday at her home, 1244 Avenue Anastasia, for the American and British cadets stationed here. The party is being sponsored by the Coral Gables Woman's Club, one in a series under the chairmanship of Mrs. Osborn Peabody Rogers, for the club, and Mrs. Milton B. Garris, general chairman. Twelve of the club women will assist. * * * Mrs. J. H. Peebles' tea Tuesday afternoon complimented two attractive young women, one a former resident, Mrs. Thomas L. Roberts Jr., Mrs. Peebles' sister and Mrs. Bradshaw Ansley, a new resident, who, with her husband, associated with the WIOD broadcasting station, has come from Atlanta. Mrs. Roberts was busy greeting friends right and left, for as a popular member of the Junior Woman's Club, she has made many. Her husband, Dr. Roberts, now a lieutenant with the U. S. Army at Fort Bragg, is on maneuvers. They are living at Fayetteville, N. C. Greeting guests at the door were Mrs. Dana McLendon and Mrs. Malcolm McDonald. Mrs. Peebles' love for yellow chrysanthemums (her bridesmaids carried them at her wedding 20 years ago) was reflected in the pretty tea table arrangement. Pink gladioli and roses were used about the drawing room and porch. Alternating at the tea service and assisting in the dining room were Mrs. James A. Coker, Mrs. S. Hill Gordon, Mrs. McGregor Smith, Mrs. E. F. P. Brigham, Mrs. Thomas Mayes, Mrs. J. M. McAllister and Mrs. J. Wylly Keck.

YOU ARE THE JUDGE IN YOUR HOME!

IS IT ALL RIGHT TO STUDY IN DIM LIGHT? IS IT SAFE TO READ THE FUNNIES UNDER A GLARING LAMP? YOU ARE THE JUDGE IN YOUR HOME! Shadow and glare are enemies of eyesight. Young eyes—your children's eyes—are strained when lighting conditions in the home or school are incorrect. Your children have the right to demand proper light for their activities. School authorities are providing proper seeing conditions in classrooms. What are you doing about your home lighting? You are the judge — AND THE ONE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. ELECTRICITY IS CHEAP! SEE YOUR DEALER! WOMEN IN NATIONAL DEFENSE Front-line activities in-defense of boundaries attract attention. But women are learning-remedial methods that will solve society's silent deficiencies. In civilian defense, and through proper nutrition, child care and adequate eyesight protection, the home is the first line of defense. The women of Coral Gables are in the front line of defense of eyesight and other conditions that protect the home.
