Charles, who knows nothing about war and the misery in this mad world, is so confident Santa Claus is going to bring him a fire truck, that he will place a "sandwich" on the mantle next Wednesday night, just in case Santa's midnight rounds delivering toys. Charles is the adorable, only child of Dr. and Mrs. C. Ray Burbacher, 3615 Harlano Avenue. First of the large Christmas parties scheduled for the holiday season will be the cocktail party Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Hodge will give from five until seven Saturday afternoon at their home, 760 Alhambra Circle. The Hodges will greet a large number of friends at this time, as is their annual custom . . . Judge and Mrs. Frederick Glass will be at home Sunday afternoon in their country place in South Miami for eggnog, following their annual custom . . . On Monday, Mrs. Archibald Mackrell will honor Mrs. John Severy Hibben of Pasadena, Calif., with a luncheon at the Miami Biltmore Hotel for 20 guests. Aides will be Mrs. A. W. Barrett and Mrs. John Mackrell Montgomery, daughter and grand-daughter-in law of Mrs. Mackrell . . . Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Yonge, Jr., will greet their many friends Christmas morning with eggnog at their home . . . Mr. and Mrs. John M. Montgomery will entertain in the late afternoon honoring Mrs. Hibben; Dr. and Mrs. John S. Hibben . . . Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wjgman will have open house at their country place "Curwig Pines" . . . Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Granville Leitch, of 1207 Mariola Court will have open house from 4:30 to 6 on the 26 th; and of course the annual open house of the Florida Year Round Clubs and the Country Club of Coral Gables at noon Christmas. Mrs. Elsie Melanson honored Miss Betty Wynn with a luncheon at the Whitman Hotel Monday. Miss Wynn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wynn, formerly of Coral Gables now of Newnan, Ga., has been much feted since her arrival for a visit with Miss Danner Baker . . . Mrs. E. M. Reinhold, of 901 Country Club Prado, was no more disappointed than her guests at bridge Monday night in not being able to have the rehearsal dinner for Miss Jewell Wilkerson and her fiance, Anthony (Red) Belcher, whose marriage was originally scheduled for Tuesday. Since all leaves have been cancelled, Mr. Belcher does not know when he can come, C'est la Guerre. Rehearsals are going on daily at the Theatre of the Fifteen for their first major production, "The Male Animal" and from a vastly improved stage which has been raised some 30 inches from its former floor level. The new stage will enable the "15" to present more varied plays—stories that call for trap doors, underground passages, etc., Jim Crow, able character actor of the group assures. Rehearsals in the Fifteen now requiring four of the large apartments at Douglas Entrance. First in the series of parties, Mr. and Mrs. Albert H. Gleason will give this season at their Columbus Boulevard home, will be the buffet supper on Dec. 27th preceding the Century Club's Christmas dance at the Miami Biltmore Country Club. The Gleasons will honor Mr. and Mrs. Edward Randolph Treat of Indianapolis, Ind., Col. and Mrs. Vincent Paul Coyne, Mrs. Morgan James Brady and John Foley, all of Boston. Mr. and Mrs. Gleason will again entertain Sunday afternoon, Jan. 4 from 5 to 8 o'clock at a cocktail buffet, invitations for which are being sent out. Mrs. Coyne and Mrs. Brady are the daughters of the late Mrs. Ippolito Longhi of Boston and 1041 Coral Way. Many parties and sailing trips down the bay are being planned for the young friends of Russell Caskey, son of Mrs. S. Earle Giffen and Mr. Giffen, who will arrive Sunday from Duke University to spend the Christmas holidays. New Year's Eve, he will be host at the Country Club of Coral Gables and following the game New Year's Day at the Orange Bowl, he will be host to ten at dinner at his parent's home on Alhambra Circle. Mrs. Giffen will entertain at large holiday bridge-luncheon, Jan. 8th at her home for 60 guests. Ralph Girtman literally made a "parachute landing" Tuesday at his parents home, Mr. and Mrs. George T. Girtman, 1700 Le Jeune Road for he was not expected. Young Girtman, member of the parachute squadron at Ft. Benning, Ga. is on a ten day leave. Other house guest at the Girtman home is Mrs. R. E. L. Spence, of Albany, Ga. Mrs. Spence has many friends in the Gables who will be glad to know of her arrival. Dr. and Mrs. S. Hill Gordon of 44 Santillane Avenue, have as their houseguest, Mrs. Gordon's mother, Mrs. Thomas J. Wall of Chicago, who will stay for the season . . . Mrs. Willett Stubbs of Coconut Grove plans to entertain her aunt Miss Maude Wallace of Blacksburg, Va., who has arrived for a visit with her under the date blossoms of N. Bayshore Road . . . Major J. Michael Cole, U. S. A. ret., has arrived from New York to stay indefinitely with Capt and Mrs. E. B. Wharton, 533 Avenue Majorca. Major Cole finds the Florida climate more to his liking, after spending many years in California. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Wickel of 3721 Harlano Avenue, have just had a group of interesting guests. William Walsingham, vice president of the St. Louis Cardinals and Mrs. Walsingham who attended the National convention of Base Ball clubs meeting recently in Jacksonville, came down for a few days visit with the Wickels; also E. S. Hamilton, president of the Williams, W. Va. baseball club and E. L. Stovener, supt. of the America Rolling Mills and president of the Ashland baseball club at Ashland, Ky. Both Mr. Stevens and Mr. Hamilton flew back North Sunday. Capt. and Mrs. Robert M. Elzey have leased the former Wilson Fiske Reynolds home, at 4200 Monseratte street and have as their guest, Mrs. Elzey's mother . . . Lila Palmer Lehman effected a lease for two years for Mrs. Reynolds, who has returned to her summer home in West Hampton Beach, N. Y. Mrs. Lehman also leased the E. A. Boykin summer home at 731 Alhambra Circle, one of the show places of the Gables, to Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Butler of St. Paul. The Boykins have returned to their winter home in Cuba; will return in the spring.

Century Club's Christmas Dance Will Be Gala Affair December 27

As in former years, the Christmas dance of the Century Club will be largest of the winter parties. With many holiday guests in town, cocktail and buffet suppers will precede the party to be held from nine until one Saturday night, the 27th, at the Miami Biltmore Country Club. Supper will be served at half past eleven. Mr. and Mrs. George Corrigan are among those entertaining at cocktails for the members seated at their table. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Gleason are also entertaining at a buffet supper preceding the dance. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fuchs will be hosts at a large table also Mr. and Mrs. Inman Padgett. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Barrett will be hosts at one of the larger tables and will have as guests, Dr. and Mrs. John Severy Hibben of Pasadena, who have arrived to spend Christmas with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Montgomery. The Barretts will entertain at cocktails preceding the party at their home 501 Alhambra Circle. Mr. anl Mrs. J. Harry Collins and Mr. and Mrs. John Moon will be joint hosts at one of the large tables. Other hosts include, the Charles I. Smiths; the W. E. Nicholsons; the F. Duffield Hopkins, Jr.; the Marvin Adams; the Robert Pages; the A. R. Ebis and many others.

Country Club Plans Gala New Year's

The Country Club of Coral Gables have planned an unusually fine New Year's Eve celebration in place of the annual party. There will be dinner and dance with music and favors at no charge to members. Guests will be charged. Dinners will be served from nine o'clock on continuing until two a. m. Music will begin at 11 o'clock and continue until 2 a.m. Members are requested to make reservations early. The club will also play host Christmas day to members at the annual "Eggnog" party from 11 a. m. till 1 p. m. Elaborate plans are also in the making for the annual Christmas party for the kiddies from 3 to 5 p. m. Sunday when Santa Claus will be on hand with favors and candy and a Christmas tree.

Dr. Williams Will Read Immortal Carol

The Drama and Playreading Group of the Coral Gables Woman's Club will be entertained at 10:30 Monday morning, by Dr. George C. Williams, who will give his presentation of Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. Dr. Williams, former president of the Ithica State Teachers College, is one of the country's best Shakespearean actors and his reading of the immortal carol will be a great treat for all members and guests privileged to hear him. Assisting Mrs. William Hillis, Drama Chairman, will be the following members of her committee; Mrs. C. B. Brasington, Mrs. E. J. England, Mrs. H. H. MacDonald, Mrs. Horace E. Moore, Mrs. John A. Campbell, Mrs. George C. Williams, Mrs. O. K. Houston and Mrs. Coulton Skinner.
