Dog Limit Is Protested By Fanciers

A clause in Coral Gables' proposed dog ordinance, limiting the number of pets owned by one fancier to three, drew a protest today from the Greater Miami Dog Club. In a letter to the city commission, members of the club voiced approval of other provisions of the ordinance which call for annual rabies innoculations, tags and other control measures. The club, however, took exception to the provision limiting the number of dogs, stating that "an owner abiding by the other provisions of the law could not possibly commit a nuisance by having more than three dogs." "Many of our members feel that limiting the number of pets a citizen may have is an infringement on his constitutional rights," the letter stated. A delegation of club members is expected to attend Tuesday night's meeting of the commission, when the ordinance is slated for final passage.

Agreement Is Reached On Biltmore

(Continued from Page One) as the "19th hole", as well as the pro shop and locker room facilities. "There are other details which will be worked out at a later date, such as parking facilities and accessibility of the course through the hospital grounds, but the major features are almost certain to be approved. Unless we are delayed more than a week or so, the course should be ready for play by Thanksgiving. We have set our sights, however, on opening the facilities by or before December first." City Manager W. T. McIlwain said earlier this week that from his observations it might be possible to have the course opened four or five days after the city takes over its management. "Preliminary inspection revealed that the greens and tees are in good shape and there seems to be no reason why the course can't be made playable within that length of time," McIlwain stated. "City park crews will start work on the course as soon as the deal permits," he added. Umps Clark, pro-manager of the Granada golf course, will temporarily be placed in charge of the Biltmore lay-out. Clark will supervise both courses until a permanent selection of a Biltmore pro is made by the City Commission. It was also understood Umps is being favorably considered to remain as director of the second municipal course. University of Miami officials have requested that students be allowed the use of the course and the varsity golf team may play its intercollegiate matches there, McIlwain disclosed. "We always welcome the opportunity to extend such privileges to the University and certainly expect to make such arrangements to the best advantage of the students."
