GABLESLGRAMS
(Continued from Page Seven) when she said that from the air bombed Berlin looked like an empty egg crate. The major will retire from the army next June and will become a permanent Miamian. Before entering the service she conducted a girls camp winters at Miami Beach, summers in New York. * * * Pretty Marjorie Brice, bride-elect of Thomas Charles Marly of Jacksonville, did outstanding work in her science courses in which she received her degree from the University of Miami. Marjorie planned to study for her master's at Columbia this year, but says she, demurely, "I decided, instead, to put an "r" in the middle of the "Ms." Parties are in the making for Miss Brice. Mrs. Robert Wolf gave a linen shower for her Tuesday and Miss Louise Ray plans a party Nov. 17th. Miss Brice and Mr. Marley will be married Nov. 27th. * * * Silver wedding bells rang for Mr. and Mrs. U. J. Hiss on the date of Oct. 21 and gathered together for a surprise party for this pioneer couple, who came to Coral Gables in 1925, were close friends, family and a visiting niece Mrs. U. V. Patnaude of South Bend, Ind. The parents of five sons and three daughters, most of the Hiss 'children' were present for the celebration. Other parties for Mrs. Patnaude, who has now returned to her home, included a luncheon Miss Marilyn Ward, fiancee of James Hiss, gave for the visitor at Fox's Restaurant on the Dixie, and dinners at the R. J. Hisses and the J. C. Witzlebens. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Page returned this week to their Coral Gables home after a summer at their lake place in Clay, N. Y. Too many parties including several clam bakes, for which that part of the country is famous, makes Mrs. Page want to diet, yet, she claims Coral Gables with its winter party program is no place to diet either. Mr. and Mrs. David Giffen spent a week with the Pages on their way to Lake Placid and the Earl Wilsons paid a call but most thrilling was the arrival of their son-in-law and daughter the Benjamin Turners of Coral Gables who flew up. Young Mrs. Turner couldn't get over the fact that she fed "Chip" their five months old son at 6:30 a. m. the morning she left and that same night was dining in Syracuse.

While abroad, she was lucky enough to be stationed with her husband therefore able to visit Scotland, Ireland and Wales and all of their historic places of interest, while he was serving with the Royal Air Force.
