CC Players Bow Tonite In 'Outward Bound'

'Outward Bound', a three-act tragedy will be presented tonight at the Coral Gables Country Club by the Country Club Players. The performance, under the direction of Dr. Norman Buchan, is the fourth in a series of productions of well-known Broadway hits which have been staged by the local group. It will be repeated Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Leading role in tonight's drama will be played by Walter Ashby, who has become a favorite with Country Club audiences. Ostensibly the steward of a mysterious ship on an equally mysterious voyage, Ashley appears in the play as Scrubby. Another familiar figure in Country Club circles is Jacqueline Pierce, who portrays the difficult role of Ann. Making his Country Club debut is Colin Drake, who is Henry in the play. Drake in real life is news editor of a Miami radio station. Others in the cast include: Herbert Tuckerman as Tom Prior; Mrs. Sylvia Furlong as Mrs. Cliveden Banks; Dr. Robert McVoy as Rev. William Duke; Mrs. R. E. Nitzsche as Mrs. Midget; Dr. Sidney Casell as Mr. Lingley and H. C. Binns as Rev. Frank Thompson. Steadily mounting interest in the activities of the Gables thespians has required the services of a small army of behind-the-scenes committees. These include: Advisory: E. C. Hodge, chairman; A. E. Hooper Aids Police Probe

(Continued From Page 1) morning and surrendered, saying "I just shot a man and wish to give myself up." Investigators said patrons of the roadhouse where the slaying occurred reported they saw Hooper arguing with a man near the door. The two men then went outside together, witnesses said, and a short time later four or five shots were heard. Hooper was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Hospital attaches said he was shot twice in the chest. Members of Hooper's family said he had been in Birmingham about three weeks on a construction job.

Ballot on Three For CC Board

Members of the Country Club of Coral Gables were balloting today to name a new president and select three members for the board of directors. Polls will close at 6 p.m. Earl M. DeNoon was unopposed on the ballot to succeed Phil J. Laurence. Director candidates include Sam Elcook, Alfred T. Eldredge, Frank A. Froehling, Dr. Thomas S. Gowin, James A. Henderson, E. C. Hodge, Frank Howard, Clinton T. McCreedy, Dr. L. D. Pankey, Dr. Oden Schaeffer, A. Laurence Schroeder Jr., O. B. Sutton and Richard E. Theil.

Sutton Holds Negro In Manslaughter

Booker T. Monroe, negro, was ordered held over for Criminal Court on a manslaughter charge following an inquest held before Justice O. B. Sutton on Friday afternoon. Monroe was held responsible for the death of James Pender who was killed in an automobile accident on October 30. Pender was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Pender of the Cumberland Trailer Camp. Monroe was held under a $2,000 bond.

Dr. Latham Dies; Funeral Today

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o'clock this afternoon for Dr. Luther Middleton Latham, 77, retired physician who died Friday night in his residence, 1234 Country Club Prado. The rites will be held at the Franklin-Cole and Van Orsdale Mortuary. Dr. Latham came to Coral Gables 12 years ago from Montevallo, Alabama. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Latham, and three daughters, Mrs. Charles S. Leyden, Miss Roberta Latham and Mrs. E. L. Jones, all of Coral Gables; a grandson, William S. Doxie, Jr., also of Coral Gables and two sisters, Mrs. E. E. Upchurch and Miss Della Latham of Clanton, Ala.
