Picturesque Sunset Ceremony At St. Stephen's Unites Caroline Butler, F. L. Burki

Motoring to New Orleans on their honeymoon are Mr. and Mrs. F. Lawrence Burki, whose marriage took place at sunset Saturday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Coconut Grove. Incidently, and marking an unusual coincidence, the bride was born here in 1926, the year the Riviera weekly came into being. Her marriage story is the first to appear in the daily Riviera-Times. In one of the prettiest weddings of the fall season, the bride, the former Miss Caroline Baker Butler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd CAROLINE AND LARRY | Lloyd D. LeMan Photo | Baker Butler, pioneer residents of Coral Gables, wore a gown of white slipper satin designed with moyen-age neckline. The sheer yoke, outlined with a deep folded fichu of satin extended low over the shoulders and was fastened in the front with a seed pearl pin. The bodice was fitted, with long sleeves and the full skirt ended in a long train. Her illusion veil fell from a heart shaped halo, outlined with seed pearls, and extended to the end of the train. The bride, given in marriage by her father, carried the prayer book which was a gift from her maternal grandmother upon her confirmation. Yellow throated white orchids, tube roses and stephanotis formed its streamers. The church chancel was decorated with standards of white gladioli, pompom carnations and chrysanthemums. Altar bouquets were of the same flowers as were the bouquets marking the candle-lit pews. The Rev. Rex Wilkes read the double ring service which united the couple. Charles McVay, organist, played a program of selected numbers preceding the ceremony and the wedding march. Attendants Wear Fall Colors Miss Lanette Haar, cousin of the bride, was maid-of-honor. Her dress of gold faille was in period design made with portrait neckline, (Please turn to Page Eight)

Gablesgrams

By HELEN REYNOLDS, Society Editor | Many happy returns to Mrs. William L. Huntley who marks her birthday anniversary today. Beloved by young and old alike, Mrs. Huntley likes to entertain her friends, and follows an old Southern custom, by entertaining in her own home. Coral Gables residents for many years, Mr. and Mrs. Huntley recently moved to their new home, at 725 North Greenway Drive. At present they are vacationing in the North. While her husband was doing some big game hunting with friends in Wyoming, Kathleen visited their son William L. (Bill) Jr., now completing the courses at Notre Dame University interrupted during the war. She attended the opening Notre Dame-Pitt football game with her long time friend, Mrs. Knute Rockne. At present visiting in Mississippi, the Huntleys are expected home this week. * * * One of our favorite people is Irene McConnell, who this Summer opened a new shop in the 'gold' hills of Highlands, N. C. Irene owns "Yrene's," that swank little shop across from City Hall. Mrs. McConnell has the bluest of blue eyes and prematurely white hair. She is a gentle soul with a musical laugh, a keen sense of humor and also a keen business sense. Take her ability to get a HOUSE BUILT IN ONE WEEK, for instance. That she did and in Highlands. She tells me that first she and her husband bought the lots. The view was so marvelous, that all they did was to run out of the shop to see the view and sigh, and run back in to do a little work. Contacting the only builder who was bringing lumber up the mountain Mrs. McConnell made her plea. We're of the opinion that he must have fallen under the spell of those Irish eyes and that winning smile, for he said: "You'll get the very next load." He made his word good and the McConnells moved into their own new house in one week from the day it was started. Irene is back and her shop 'Yrene' is open for the season, but come next May the McConnells will be trekking mountainward, to their built-in-one-week-home and new shop. * * * Home from a six weeks visit with her two sons and their families is Mrs. Ralph H. Ferrell of 932 Avenue Tendillo. In Richmond, Virginia, she visited the Ralph H. Ferrells Jr., and their two children Lydia and Ralph 3rd. A musician of no mean ability herself, the senior Mrs. Ferrell was delighted with the talent displayed by eight year old Lydia as a piano student. "She has a real gift" her grandmother declared. In Mt. Kisco, New York, Mrs. Ferrell was guest of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Ferrell and their three children Maribel, Bobby and Patricia, just two. Maribel nine, was named for her two grandmothers, Mary Hughes Call, the noted pianist, and 'Bell' for Mrs. Ferrell. Incidentally Mrs. (Please turn to Page Nine)
