SPORTS CORAL GABLES-SCORE CARD | Comparative Scores Don't Count - So It's the River

By DON CUDDY Favoritis is an infection that makes delirious scatter-brains out of the best people and the malady has sure set into Coral Gables with the coming of the Florida Gators for tonight's hassle with the Hurricanes. Everybody always claims that comparative scores don't mean a thing; yet what can you say when a toss-up like this is on the books except that your team is better than mine because they tied a team who beat a team who only lost to a school by two points which beat my team? Florida is given the edge because they've had a somewhat better season than most people in the know expected; Miami the underdog for the reverse reason. Yet before the two teams launched their campaigns the Hurricanes were conceded this game (I know, and a couple of others they lost too). This is the same team that drew rave notices two months ago and is now described as a bunch of inconsistent individuals each with their own peculiar hangover. Don't Rain On the Biltmore Pray that it doesn't rain hard for the next couple of weeks and you'll be doing some nice people a favor, perhaps. Because, according to "Umps" Clark, who is supervising the Biltmore operation, one day of heavy rain will delay the opening of the course by about a week or two. 375 Acres Is a Lotta Terrain He hopes to have the links ready for the first week in December. Something like 13 City Parks employees are manicuring the greens and roughly twice that many are working on the fairways. But 375 acres is a lot of ground to get ready and plenty of fingers are crossed. Action On Pro Quandry Needed The final decision on who will manage the course was almost settled at the commission meeting Tuesday, but got pigeon-holed somehow. So the links, if they do open per schedule, will not be fully equipped and operating normally by at least a couple of weeks later unless somebody takes the situation in hand promptly. More Gableites Roughing It A double quartet of Gables nimrods will be heading north tomorrow (don't want to miss tonight's game) to a privately-owned island hunting preserve off New Brunswick, Georgia, for a five-day "weekend" of hunting and roughing it. "We're going out after deer," said Frank Holley, one of the members of the party. "If we can't find deer-well, squirrels are always easy game," added Dr. Roy Bovard. "Personally, I'm all set to shoot me down a couple of duck," admitted Dr. L. D. Pankey. Al Eldredge, host to the party, listened with interest. "We'll probably come back with a bag of marsh hens," was his comment. Others on the hunting trek will be Jim Hoffman, Arch Cassidy, former Gableite who will join the party in Jacksonville; Dr. Wiley Sams and Dr. Jack Q. Cleveland. Before they leave bet'cha some wife picks a recent magazine cartoon and pastes it in a conspicuous place. It shows the mighty hunters with pasteboards primed and beer can handy disturbing their sport long enough to ask the curious animals "Well, what do you want?"

(Continued from Page One) Florida" fever calmly, discussed last minute strategy with no important changes that were not announced earlier this week in mind. Hal Shuler, center, and Bill Frantz, converted guard, are out of tonight's clash with injuries. Al Kasulin is a definite starter and Don Cobb, the Ocala Surprise, will be rewarded for his punt return against Vanderbilt with a starting assignment unless Miami kicks off, in which case he will be replaced by Harry Ghaul. Ernie Mazejka will be calling the signals tonight, and Bob Bow- man will captain the Hurricanes from the wingback position. Defensive Line Starts What can be loosely termed as Miami's defensive line will start the traditional clash. Bob Sutter will handle the pivot chores; Ed Hauck and Tony Yovicsin will be on the flanks; Mario DeMarco and George Car- rifee, guards, and Ernie Set- tembre and Art Saey will open at the tackle posts. Offensivline for the game are: L. L. McMichael (Georgia) referee; Fred Singleton (Alabama) um- pire; M. G. Brown (PMA) head linesman; and Harry Mouat (Armour) field judge.

SPORTS PARADE

By OSCAR FRALEY UP Sports Writer NEW YORK, Nov. 21. (UP)- The professional leagues admittedly are the frappe of football, so you get the really great of the gridiron today in all-league teams selected by coaches and officials of the National League and All-America Football Conference. Un until the AAC got into the thick of things last year the National League club was the real All America football team. Each team had playing comparisons which could be drawn. Now it gets tougher again with the AAC in the running so you (Please Turn to Page 12)

Fans Impatient For Georgia-Wreck Game Next Week

By WILLIAM TUCKER United Press Sports Writer ATLANTA, Ga., Nov. 20 (UP) Georgia and Georgia Tech fans have their blood-pressure under control this weekend and it's a good thing they are conserving their hysteria because probably the most hectic game of the sea- son will come up on Grant Field Nov. 29. A month ago Georgia fans wouldn't have given a dime for their chances. But a lot has happened since then. The Bulldogs have improved steadily to deal out solid lickings to Clemson, Auburn and Florida. Tech has proved that it can be taken-and rampaging Alabama handed the Engineers their first loss of the season to bring them down to common company with Georgia. Add crippling injuries to two or three Tech players and (Please Turn to Page 12)

Record Favors Cavaliers

Ponce de Leon's Cavalier football team left for Paho- kee in private cars at 2:30 this afternoon for their game at the new Pahokee stadium at 8:15 tonight, and the Blue Devils they'll meet there are re- ported to be something of the same spread-formation, offensive- minded stylists as the Cavaliers. Record Favors Cavs By the records, the Cavaliers will be favored to win this one after five straight defeats. Pa- hokee owns a better record in central Florida circles, but one of the Devil's two losses was a 6-0 defeat by Fort Pierce, the team that the Cavaliers polished off 19-6 for one of their two wins of the season. Coach John Noppenberg re- vealed a switch in starting line- up that he designed to stop enemy off-tackle thrusts throughout the ball game. Faced (Please Turn to Page 12)

Record-Holding No Refund Heads Biscayne Feature

No Refund, the blue brindle son of More Taxes-Soapy Hands and a litter mate of the Biscayne Inaugural champion, Beachcomb- er, from the Paul Sutherland Kennels will head the entry in tonight's featured ninth race at the Biscayne Kennel club where the sixth night of the 43-night meeting will start at 7:45 p. m. This speedster made his season- al debut on Monday night to run third in the initial race. Then on Wednesday night, entered in the sixth race at the Futurity dis- tance, he came through in sen- sational style to win by two lengths and post a new track record for the distance of 28 and three-eighths inches. This imme- diately advanced him to the top race tonight and a victory for him will give the Paul Sutherland kennels the first week's reigning two stars. Chief opposition for the two- year-old tonight promises to come from Ophelia, winner in her last of a featured ninth; Mr. Ace, Tyree and Kitty Rube. Also in this entry is the seasonal first-starter, Forever Amber which comes to this first start with no- table schooling efforts. With 34 other seasonal first-starters in the other nine races matched against former favorites and stars of the last five nights, again the fifth and tenth races will be over the marathon Bis- cayne Course.

Newcomers May Spark Musketeers In Sunday Clash

Like a man discovering oil in his back yard, St. Theresa's fight- ing Musketeers discovered wealth they didn't know was there in routing St. Anthony's of Ft. Lau- derdale, 54-7, Sunday, and Coach John Homko plans to make the most of a pair of eighth graders who came out of nowhere when his squad tangles with S. S. Peter and Paul at home Sunday after- noon. The two newcomers, Paul Gib- son and Bill Roberts, both year- ling backs, are not quite up to a starting assignment, but will probably get another chance this week to prove that their spurs are there to stay. Homko admitted this morning that he was "surprised" by his squad's ability to run away with the visitors last Sunday but warn- ed that this week's opponents won't be half as easy mark. Peter-Paul Dangerous "The record doesn't favor them as much as us against St. Anthony and Gesu-they won one other game (over Pompano, 26-7), but if you look close you'll see that Gesu only notched them by two touchdowns. That's bet- ter than we did against the Cru- saders and it shows that Peter- Paul can play football." Homko said his squad was in good shape with the possible ex- ception of Art Doll, the end who blocked a punt and scored last week. He may be replaced at end by Russell McGraw.
