Philippines Eye U of M As Model

(Continued from Page One) old University of Manila. Like our own university it is housed mainly in temporary quarters, the same type of Army buildings that now dot the main campus in Coral Gables. To Be Converted Also like the University, it has one old building of Spanish design that was never completed. This, like our famous "skeleton" will be converted to harmonize with the new buildings which are being planned. "As a matter of fact," comments James Russell of the Weed office, "the only difference at all in the two problems is that the Manila site is hilly while ours is not." Russell went over the plans with Nakil, while Architect Marion Manley discussed the matter with the second delegation. The group had been commissioned to inspect schools in both North and South America. Nowhere did they find a situation that coincided so minutely with their problems, they said. The climate is almost identical to that the University of Miami buildings, designed to admit as much sunshine and air as possible, will be ideal for the Pacific.

Dickens Motif Wins Contest

A minature Santa Claus, complete with sleigh and reindeer zoomed high above a sleepy village in the Rogers' window, while a blue backdrop twinkled with stars. Miraculously being carried by the tiny sleigh was a full-sized refrigerator, gaily bedecked with red Christmas ribbon.

Sutorius to Give Christmas Sermon

During the fourth service of Advent preparation at the St. James Lutheran Church this Sunday at 11 a.m., Rev. C. J. Sutorius will preach on the subject: "The True Purpose of Christmas: That We May See Jesus." A children's Christmas program will be presented by the Sunday School at the church at 8 p.m. Members of the Luther League will also present a Christmas pageant entitled "While Shepherds Watched." Plans have been completed for a midnight candle light service which will be held at the church Christmas eve beginning at 11:30 p.m. The church choir will sing "Silent Night," and Mrs. E. R. Ehly will sing "O Holy Night." 'His Birthday' Dr. Schaaf's Topic Christmas services at the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables this Sunday will include an 11 a.m. worship service with Dr. Nevin Schaaf preaching on "His Birthday," and an annual vesper service of carols and candles at 7 p.m. Beatrice Hunt, choir director, and Warner Hardman, organist, will present special programs of music at both services. During the morning service, Mr. Hardman will play Lester's "Christmas Rhapsody," and "Carol" from the collection of Pise Cantiones of 1582. For the anthem, the choir will sing "Break Forth, O Beauteous Light" from Bach's Christmas Oratorio, and Neidlinger's "The Birthday of a King" with Mrs. Hunt, contralto, as soloist. For the evening vesper message, Dr. Schaaf will speak on "The Light of the World is Jesus." Young men in the Senior Department of the Church School will act as ushers. The service of carols and candles will include six numbers from selections by Adam, Matthews, and Schubert. Marilyn Michel and Mary Davies, both sopranos, will participate in the presentation of these numbers. Organ numbers will be "Christmas Evening" by Mauro-Cottone, "At the Cradle" by Grieg, and "Chorale" by Bach. St. Stephen's Plans A White Christmas A white Christmas will be observed at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove this Sunday morning beginning at 11 o'clock. The children of the church, with gifts in their hands, will form a procession to a crib which will be placed in the garden of the church grounds. There they will leave their gifts which will be given to Deaconess Harriette Bedell for distribution among the Seminole Indians in her district. Gifts will also be given to a negro orphanage in Deland. An all-parish Christmas party, in the form of a carol sing, will be held in the Parish Hall from seven until nine o'clock Sunday night. Those attending will gather around a large Christmas tree and sing carols. Each child present will receive a peppermint candy cane. Refreshments will be served.
