Miss Dorothy Theresa Smith Becomes Bride Of Robert E. Ahearn In Picturesque Rites
Christmas white and red accented the lovely costumes worn by the bride and her attendants at the marriage Saturday morning of Miss Dorothy Theresa Smith and Robert Emmett Ahearn, Jr. The ceremony was performed at eleven o'clock at the Church of the Little Flower and was followed by a reception at the home of the bride's parents, Captain and Mrs. George W. Snow, 2522 Mashta Street. The pretty bride, given in marriage by her father, wore traditional white satin made with bustle style back and long train. Long fitted sleeves and a boat neck line were details of the bodice. A white satin helmet held the three tiered veil in place and th bride carried a white prayer book decorated with white orchids in streamers. The three attendants of the bride wore identical gowns of white moire taffeta and carried red poinsettias wreathed in northern holly. Miss Doris Snow was maid of honor. Miss Rose Marie Ferro and Miss Barbara Barclay were bridesmaids. Their gowns were made with bustle-back long skirts and were fashioned like the bride's. Their matching helmet shaped caps were gold trimmed. Roger Bermudez of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, was best man for Mr. Ahearn, Jr. Ushers included John Edgerton, John Barclay, Jr., E. J. Weaver and Richard Olsen. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Snow wore a Chartreuse red crepe formal. A small white feather hat and white gardenias corsage accented her costume. The senior Mrs. Ahearn wore an aqua-blue crepe formal with silver beaded belt, matching aqua-blue flowered hat and gardenia corsage. Mrs. Fred Lawrence Burki kept the bride's book at the reception and Miss Betty Turner assisted. For a honeymoon trip to Havana, the bride wore a black wool crepe suit, black accessories, a winter white felt helmet, and a white orchid. The newly wed Mr. and Mrs. Ahearn will return Wednesday to spend Christmas in Coral Gables and will then leave for their future home in Puerto Cabezas. Among the out-of-town guests at the wedding were the senior Mrs. Robert E. 'Mrs. Santa Claus' Is Party Host To Young Schenley Park Neighbors
The children in the Schenley Park neighborhood tell you "there is a Mrs. Santa Claus," they're referring to Mrs. Lorna Higgins of 5827 S. W. 29 Street. And kids in other neighborhoods where Mrs. Higgins has lived during her life will tell you the same thing. Every Christmas Mrs. Higgins has in her home an elaborately decorated Christmas tree loaded down with gifts for every child who happens to come by her home. And what is more, she usually has a party for the children. This year was no exception. From two o'clock until five yesterday afternoon, the Higgins home was the scene of a merry Christmas party for twenty-seven neighborhood children and their mothers. As part of the entertainment, sound motion pictures, including "The Night Before Christmas" and "Silent Night," were shown. Not only did each child receive a present from Santa Claus, in the person of Raymond Higgins, Mrs. Higgins' son, but each one also got a big red stocking full of candy and popcorn.
