Calumet Entries Top Field of 51 For Flamingo

(Continued from Page 6) Turity and the Pimlico Futurity and finished the season with eight victories in nine starts. Of the 51 nominees three are fillies, seven are geldings and the rest are colts. Whirlaway and Heliopolis lead the sires list with four nominations each. Bull Lea, leading sire of 1947, has two of his get named for the classic. Included in the list is Charles A. O'Neill, Jr.'s CAO Jr., the only Florida-bred named. The youngster is by Suffern, a Canadian stallion, and was bred and foaled at Carl Rose's farm at Ocala. CAO Jr. was sparingly raced during 1947, making only three starts and winning two of them. His most impressive showing was runnerup to Saggy in his racing debut last Spring. Another O'Neill nominee is Galedo, a twin by Gallahadion. Sanford Stud has named Howlah, an English importation, to represent them in the event. Howlah was purchased from the King of England's royal stable and flown to this country several weeks ago. He performed well in Britain, winning once and finishing second to William Woodward's Black Tarquin in another race.

THIS BEAUTIFUL sterling silver trophy - awarded by the Florida Citrus Commission - goes to the winning team in the 1948 Kansas-Georgia Tech Orange Bowl football classic on New Year's Day in Miami. Orange Bowl Queen Jeanne Biegger, a native Floridian, proudly poses with the trophy.

Seek Foster Homes For Youngsters

Would you take a little two-year-old child into your home in time for Christmas? This is the appeal being made by the Children's Home Society of Florida, an agency of the State Welfare Department, in order that children two years old or younger may enjoy the warmth of real home life during the Christmas season. The children are placed in temporary homes for not more than three months. The youngsters are those who come from broken homes and are being cared for by the Society until their parents are able to establish suitable quarters for them. If you're interested in playing foster parents to a tiny boy or girl, telephone George Naylor at 3-8269 for further details or stop by at Society headquarters, 127 N. W. 2nd Street.
