Miss Patricia Weiland's Betrothal to Dr. T. W. Hutson Revealed at Coffee Today

Miss Patricia Ruth Weiland -photo by Murnor Dr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Weiland today announced the betrothal of their daughter, Miss Patricia Ruth Weiland to Dr. Thomas Woodward Hutson Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Hutson of 1460 Brickell Avenue. The announcement was made at a coffee given this morning at the home of the bride-elect's parents at 1104 Avenue Malaga. Friends of the couple learned that the junior Dr. Hutson received a "Yes" from Patsy for Christmas when they saw a silhouette of her peeking from the top of a Christmas stocking marked "Tom." No date has been set for the wedding that will unite the popular blonde Gables girl with Dr. Hutson, fifth generation of doctors in his family to bear the same name. Miss Weiland attended Miss Harris' Florida School and was graduated from Miami Senior High. She received her college degree last June from Duke University, where she joined Kappa Delta national sorority. She is a member of the Spinsters Club. Her fiance attended Edison High and was graduated from Sewanee Military Academy. He became a member of Sigma Chi fraternity at the University of Florida and joined Alpha Kappa Kappa, honorary medical society, at the Medical College of the State of South Carolina. He is a member of the Bachelors Club. Scion of a pioneer Miami family, Dr. Hutson is completing his first year of resident internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital, which was named for his grandfather, the late Dr. J. M. Jackson.

Miss Alice Ann Forman Exchanges Vows with Ohioan In Garden of Parents' Home

Culminating a romance begun when they were both studying at the Cincinnati Academy of Art, Miss Alice Ann Forman became the bride of Frederick Havener of Columbus, Ohio, at four o'clock yesterday afternoon. The gardens of the Winter home of the bride's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Jonathan Forman, at 824 Avenue Sevilla, were the scene of the wedding and of the reception following. Dr. Forman, who is professor of History of Medicine at Ohio State University, author of many articles and editor of the Ohio State Medical Journal, gave his daughter in marriage. Dr. Roy Gilmore Pavy performed the traditional ceremony. The pretty blonde bride chose an all-white lace bridal dress with finger-tip-length veil and carried a nosegay of white orchids and roses. Her sister, Cynthia Louise Forman, was her maid-of-honor and only attendant. Her dress of pink lace was accented with a bouquet of pink roses. Mrs. Forman chose a white suit, white accessories and a white orchid corsage for her daughter's wedding. Jonathan Forman II, was best man for Mr. Havener. At the reception, Mrs. Charles T. Naddy and Mrs. Gilbert Chaplin presided at the punch bowl. The bride received her formal schooling in art at the Ringling Art School, Sarasota, the Institute of Art in Miami and the Cincinnati Academy of Art. Mr. Havener is the son of Charles Havener of Cleveland, and the late Mrs. Havener. He is a graduate of the Cincinnati Academy of Art. He and his bride will reside in Columbus, where he will practice his profession.

WOMEN TURN RIVIERA COUNTRY CLUB INTO WINTER WONDERLAND WITH SOAP AND BEER

By CHUCK WILEY Stale beer may be of no use to most people, but eight young matrons of the Riviera Country Club mixed it with a dash of ingenuity and conjured up Jack Frost. By spraying a little "ancient brew" on club-house windows and topping it with epsom salts, they created the illusion of icy, windblown snow on each and every pane. That's only one of the unique decorative tricks Mrs. Erwin Elsasser and her busy crew thought up to transform the spacious Riviera clubrooms into a Winter wonderland. Mrs. Robert Crowe, Mrs. Oden Schaeffer, Mrs. Carroll Latimer, Mrs. Vass Shepherd, Mrs. Carl Vetter, Mrs. Humphrey Toomey, Mrs. Bill Mitchell and Mrs. Elsasser worked for two weeks getting decorations ready. "Then we pressed our husbands into service as official put-er up-ers," the chairman explained. A five-foot snowman and snowlady (you can tell by the multicolored halo 'round her head) stand sentinel beside front doors decked with two holly wreaths and topped by a great red bow. Inside, red, green and blue stars of varied sizes shine down from white walls and pasteboard candy canes at each "frosted" window are matched by mammoth striped canes above archways in the reception room. Feminine members greeted with a hearty kiss will find the explanation overhead in sprigs of mistletoe tacked over doors on backgrounds of pine wreaths. Three bright red toy drums trimmed with gold braid and swatches of pine complete wall decorations, while fireplace mantel serves as runway for three reindeer hauling a sleigh-full of miniature Christmas gifts. But chief attraction is the enormous Christmas tree that stands in the northeast corner of the hull, bedecked with strings of lights, bright ornaments, icicles, silver festoons, pine cones and "Ivory flakes" snow. Not even the powder room has been overlooked, and ladies of the club now powder their noses in the company of a small pine tree covered with bows of discarded ribbon and colored paper. "But we aren't finished yet," said Mrs. Elsasser. "There's still the main bar and men's bar to be decorated." In the main bar there'll be angels on the wall, bells along the mirror, snowflakes in the windows-and a Santa Claus ready for his chimney descent with a pack of miniature whiskey bottles. As for the men's bar-"Esquire Christmas Pictures will take care of that," said the chairman.

New Yorkers Pay First Visit To Coral Gables

For their first visit to Florida and Coral Gables, Dr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Chapman of Albany, N. Y., will be taken on jaunts by boat on the bay and waterway, loll in the sun and surf and generally do a lot of 'reconnoitering' with their hosts and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Brand, 1025 Avenue Sevilla. Arriving this week to spend Christmas and for several weeks stay, the Chapman's were accompanied by their aunt, and Mrs. Brand's aunt, Mrs. Virginia C. Brown. Mrs. Brown has been here many times and will be remembered by many of Mrs. Brand's friends. Mr. and Mrs. Brand will entertain the Chapmans at their table for the annual Christmas dinner dance of the Country Club Saturday night at the Surf Club. They will also take their guests to the Orange Bowl game on New Year's Day. "The rest of the time we are just going to do a lot of visiting and pray for warm weather and sunshine," Mrs. Brand said.

Dinner Honors Feminine Bowlers

More than one hundred are expected to attend the dinner dance Sunday night at the Antilla Hotel, at which trophies for the best women bowlers will be awarded by the Y. M. and the Y. W. H. A. women's leagues. In the order of their averages, the "Superdupers" won first place, the "Tigers" second and "The Kinks" third. Annette Sletlin with a 90 and Ruth Nuremborg with 86 topped the ten highest averages. The others are Irene Wise, Thelma Silvert, Bella Jacobson, Rosemond Scheer, Lena Weiner, Beatrice Weintraub and Sylvia Sletlin. Rae Jacobson of the "Madame Queen" team will win the woman's highest average trophy for bowling one hundred thirty - three. Ruth Nuremberg will win the highest three-game 'set' with a three hundred five. A new league will be formed January seventh and all interested may contact Mrs. Sam Weber, chairman before December 28th.

They're Dreamin' Of a Late Christmas

On one of those days, their son, Edward, who is a private in the Air Corps, will fly home for a ten-day or two weeks vacation and they're postponing their Christmas to share it with him. It will be the first visit home for the recent Ponce graduate since he joined the army in September.
