Kris Kringle Showers Gifts Lavishly on Annual Visit

Gablesgrams

By HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR The twenty-fifth of December is just a date in the society department, because Santa Claus has been coming every day for two weeks bearing greetings from our friends. Boxes of sweets were passed around for all to share, but it is the greeting cards from former Gableites unmistakably bearing a nostalgic note, that got us. ... From Mrs. Pierre Jones and Jackie, now in Oakland, Cal., their card read, "How we miss the lovely parties in Coral Gables"... from Mrs. David Peene now in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, who writes "It is wonderful to read of all our dear friends in Coral Gables through the pages of the Riviera-Times. How I wish we were going to be there for the Christmas festivities. The girls are terribly excited over snow and winter sports but our amusement has been furnishing our new home which is a full time job." ... Incidentally, Mrs. Peene was elected president of the Coral Gables Elementary P.-T. A. before the family knew they'd be calling Toronto home this winter. . . . From Mrs. Charles Susong, a past president of the Coral Gables Woman's club, now a resident of Minneapolis The Susongs have with them this Christmas their son and daughter-in-law, "Charles and Doris"; Susong formerly of Long Beach, Cal. . . . and from the George Kinsmans from Atherton, Cal., long-time Gables residents. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Byers of 11 Avenue Santillane will entertain New Year's Eve at the Country Club of Coral Gables for their holiday houseguests who are James B. Byers of Mahaffey, Pennsylvania, brother of Mr. Byers, and Pat Kaverski of Philadelphia. Mr. Kaverski was Mr. Byers' navigator during wartime military service. Two little Christmas "shut-ins," Adrienne Barnes and Bill Gray, were made happy over the holidays by doctor's premission, a brighter New Year. Adrienne and Billy have both been in casts due to leg and hip injuries. At the home of Adrienne's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Barnes, 916 Mariposa Street, the fireplace was redecorated with a Winter Wonderland scene that brings squeals of delight from all who behold it. Created and built by Adrienne's dad, just about everything that has to do with snow, ice, skating and a northern Christmas scene, is depicted. . . . Santa's gift to Billy was substitution of a smaller cast for the big one, to enable the high school freshman to attend school when it reopens again after the holidays.

Ervin B. Wyatt Phones Greetings From France

A "Merry Christmas" from Paris, France was wished Mrs. E. B. Wyatt yesterday when her son, Ervin B. Wyatt Jr., called. "It's really cold here," Ervin told his mother. He also told her about meeting the famous dress designer Lucien Le Long and attending the theatre with him. Ervin, who left the home of his parents at 325 Avenue Alesio in September, went to Paris to study dress designing for a year. He has already created several dresses in the latest Parisian styles. For the entire ten minutes that Ervin talked to his mother, Mrs. Wyatt said that the connection was wonderful. "It was just as though we were both in the same town," she exclaimed.

SANTA BRINGS EVERYTHING FROM GRAND PIANO TO 'NEW LOOK' TO CORAL GABLES JUNIOR SET

BY CHUCK WILEY Once again Santa has come to the Gables and, according to a day-after-Christmas survey, he did a pretty good job of leaving what he was asked to leave by the younger Gableites. Although too big to put under the Christmas tree, a grand piano was left by Santa for Douglas Sandberg, elder son of Dr. and Mrs. D. T. Sandberg. Douglas also received an archery set and several "loud" sport shirts. His brother, James, will have a new stud set and accessories for his tuxedo next time he goes to a formal shindig, thanks to jolly ole' St. Nick. And Santa wasn't partial to boys in the Sandberg home. Seven-year-old Patricia got just what she ordered from him; a big girl's bicycle painted blue. Also receiver of a big bike for Christmas was seven-year-old Johnny Brinson, son of the Paul Brinsons of 318 Avenue Alesio. Older brother, Paul, Jr., received an automatic record player. Special instructions were left by Santa for both of the Brinson boys to claim the movie projector he gave them. Little three-year-old Judy Wilcox will have to learn the correct way to push a car now that she owns a brand new station wagon (toy, that is). Her younger brother, Joel, Jr., didn't get what he wanted (his second tooth) but he's satisfied with the many small toys that he did get. Joel and Judy are children of the Joel C. Wilcoxes of thirty-seven hundred and thirty-five S. W. Sixtieth Court. Cy Peter Anfindsen, young son of the Edward I. Anfindsens, of three hundred and twenty Avenue Mendoza, can really be a regular scout now, Santa remembered to bring him a Boy Scout uniform as well as some baseball equipment which he has been wanting for a long time. A pretty rubber-skin doll was left under the K. B. Knuble tree at twenty-one hundred and sixty-two S. W. Twenty-third Terrace for three-year-old Kay. Now she'll have something to put in the doll carriage which Santa left for her sister Janice. "Cops and robbers" will be a little more interesting for young Bill Peterson, son of the Ennis T. Petersons of forty-ninety-four Bonita Avenue, now that he has a new double holster with a repeater cap gun to play with. While he's shooting bandits, his sister, Wanda, Jr., will probably be inside playing with her new "didie doll." Santa got a little mixed up on his gifts for the Davis E. James children 'cause Jerry, David and Kitty failed to write their letters to him 'til after he'd decided what he was going to give them. Nevertheless, they were "pleased as punch" with the four trains, dolls, and games that he did bring them. Greatest surprise in the James A. Lyden household this morning was when John, Jr., discovered a beautiful violin under the tree for him, proving that Santa even remembers Culver students. All his younger brother, Henry asked of this generous "gift-giver" is a little help in getting through that Orange Bowl tennis contest over on Miami Beach today! Jim Okell, Columbia Military student, will have plenty of time on his hand when he returns to school now that he has a new watch. He is the son of the George Okells of twelve forty-five Avenue Andalusia. Santa had to drag out his wallet to fulfill Christmas requests of Carolyn and Betty Cribben, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Cribben of eight thirty-six Avenue Palermo. With the money they received, the girls plan to get some of those "new look" duds to take back to Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.

Grove Young People Present Silent Films

"Flickers" are not altogether extinct and the young people in the Parish of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove are going to prove it tomorrow night. Beginning at eight o'clock in the Parish Hall, a group of old silent films, complete with a barbershop quartet and music incidental to the movies, will be shown. Following this, a barn dance will be given. Proceeds from the "nickelodeon" and dance will go into the building fund of the church. Admission is $1.20 per person.

DELTA ZETA SORORITY PLANS HOLIDAY LUNCHEON AT GABLES COUNTRY CLUB

On the last Saturday of the year, alumnae, actives and pledges of Delta Zeta sorority will hold their holiday luncheon at the Country Club of Coral Gables. "The close of the year and the approaching New Year" is the theme of the luncheon which will take place at twelve-thirty in the main dining room of the club. The theme will develop both in toasts, which will summarize the activities for 1937, and in the decorations, which will feature confetti, horns, paper hats, typical of the New Year. Mrs. Thelma Peters will be toastmaster. Miss Lois Taylor will represent the alumnae and Miss Mary Lou Thompson will be soloist and song leader. Mrs. Edwin M. Singleton is general chairman of the party. Assistants are Mrs. Martin Arner, Mrs. Walter Gillentine, Mrs. Milton Coplan and Miss Betty Oehler. Toasts offered to the three college chapters in Florida, will be given by Miss Anne Singleton, of Alpha Sigma chapter, Florida State University; Miss Martha Tarbett, of Pompano, representing Beta Nu Chapter at Florida Southern College and Miss Paula Nesbit, representing Beta Nu chapter at the University of Miami.
