GOLF
Granada GOLF By ANNE RANDOLPH That last minute Christmas shopping didn't seem to bother the golfers, the men anyway. Maybe they just turned it over to their wives to do. Tuesday and Wednesday looked more like a week end at Granada and you can bet 9 out of 10 of those men said, "No, I don't think I want to go down town, you can take the car, but drop me off at the golf course first and pick me up in a couple of hours." The committee of the Mens Golf Association of the Country Club of Coral Gables will meet in the near future and plans will be made for the coming year. Chairman Bill Gorman, stated today that they will begin their '48 season with a Blind Bogey for nine holes on Wednesday, January 7th. The women will meet on Thursday January 8th at 10:00 a.m. for a nine hole Blind Bogie to be followed by a luncheon at the Country Club for 12:30 p.m. After the opening day, play will be for 18 holes every Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Mrs. M. A. Franklin is very happy over her new golf clubs that Santa presented to her. Now she knows she'll lower her score. Mrs. F. B. Compton is sporting a full new set of irons. SAM DAVID Pitt Guard

He threw one ball on the wrong alley. And talk about Babe Ruth calling his unforgettable home run against the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. Well, Andy matched that, too! He was appearing on an alley where no one ever had rolled a perfect game and when Andy stepped up to the firing line the crowd yelled: "We want a 300 game or you don't get paid." Varipapa rolled 279 and then 289. There wasn't a ripple of applause. Then he fired 11 straight strikes in his second game and the crowd waited tensely for his 12th shot. But as Andy swung up to the fowl line an inebriated customer staggered across the alley bed near the pit. His rhythm shattered, Andy threw a seven pin hit. "Well," Varipapa snorted, "we'll start another game—and this is it." It was.
