By HELEN REYNOLDS, SOCIETY EDITOR Mr. and Mrs. G. G. (Gabby and Betty) Lee are holding an open house from five to seven o'clock Sunday in their beautiful new home at 620 University Drive. Many of the some two hundred bidden guests will be viewing this large unusual one-story tropical home for the first time. Chief interest will be the "rumpus" room which overlooks the garden from the Fluvia Street side of the house. Here the Lees will serve "bog-up," a scrumptious hot dish all Southerners know well, after first plying their guests with a little "nog-up." Assisting the hosts will be Mrs. Jim Rankin, Mrs. Van Helms, Mrs. Ed Claughton, Mrs. Patricia McGregor Hodge, Mrs. Marjorie Maynard Page and Mrs. Frank Morrow. Guest of honor is Mrs. N. V. Harris, Betty's mother, who is down from Kentucky for the holidays. Miss Jeanne Parry and her fiance, Donald David Burr, will make their first appearance together as an engaged couple when they attend the Bachelor's Ball tonight. The betrothal of the couple was announced this week following a party Saturday for a small group of close friends of Jeanne and her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Willard Parry at their apartment, 400 Alhambra Circle. Some of those, who weren't already "in" on the secret, learned of the engagement when they spied photographs of the couple framed in a wreath of the beautiful Galax leaves tied with green satin ribbon above the fireplace mantel. Hospitality for visiting Britishers, Captain and Mrs. Gerald W. Hoare-Smith of Printsed, England, continues at a merry pace and will until they leave about the middle of January. Here as the house guests of their brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Wyatt Nolting of 241 Avenue Romano, they were honored at a cocktail party given for them on Sunday by their hosts. Tonight Mr. and Mrs. J. Merryman Black will entertain at a New Year's Eve party at their home, 2800 Avenue San Domingo and Saturday Mr. and Mrs. C. Murray Stoddart will give a party at their home at 2603 Country Club Prado. The visitors will also attend the Orange Bowl classic tomorrow as the guests of the Stoddarts. On their first trip to the United States, Capt. and Mrs. Hoare-Smith are making their headquarters in Baltimore, Md. They will not return to England until next May. Jottings: Sharon Skinner, twenty-month-old daughter of the Coulton Skinners can count up to ten in Spanish. Then she immediately does the same thing in English. (That's more than I can do.) . . . When Mr. and Mrs. James Gillen were recent house guests here Mrs. A. E. Harum gave a dinner for the New Yorkers. On leaving, Mrs. Gillen asked, "Julia, can't I send you something from New York?" "Yes," Julia replied, "Snow!" Come Christmas Julia got her "snow" in the form of a glass paperweight snow-scene, that just "snows and snows" when turned and twisted. . . . Nancy Jordan, eight-year-old third grader at the Elementary school, caused the other children to laugh when she read aloud her letter to Santa Claus asking for an electric train for Christmas. "Who ever heard of a girl wanting an electric train?" they chided. Santa received that letter, and Nancy got her electric train. But yes, you guessed it. Mother and Daddy (Mr. and Mrs. Julian I. Jordan) play with the intriguing toy as much as Nancy and her sister Ann.

Gableites Give 'Four-State' Party

Alabama, Georgia, New York and Rhode Island houseguests will get a chance to swap bridge points Saturday at the bridge-luncheon which Mrs. Byron Spreow and Mrs. Comer Hall are giving. Strictly an out-of-towners get-together, the bridge-luncheon will take place at the Country Club of Coral Gables. Among guests present will be Mrs. Richard Fulton of New York City and Mrs. Leon Spillman of Montgomery, Ala., both sisters of Mrs. Clarke Parker of the Gables; Mrs. Roland Sutcliffe's mother, Mrs. E. C. Shearouse, here from Swainsboro, Ga.; Mrs. Alfred Swan, Quonset, R. I., resident and daughter of the George K. Leonards; and Mrs. H. P. Bushnell.

ST. LOUIS GAVE MRS. STUBBS NEAR CASE OF CLAUSTROPHOBIA—BUT IT WAS FUN!

They were dreaming of a white Christmas in St. Louis this year but the P. M. Stubbs were disappointed when not even a flake of snow fell during the week they were there. In spite of the fact that this was the warmest Christmas St. Louis has had in years, Mrs. Stubbs reported she caught a pesky cold on the day before Christmas. While visiting Mrs. Stubbs' sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kinsey Burr, in the Mississippi river town, the Stubbs were constantly entertained at dinners, dances and a bridge party. Guests attending the latter were delighted with the gardenias which Mrs. Stubbs took with her from Florida and distributed. Mrs. Stubbs, who hadn't been to St. Louis since 1932, said that everything looked so large to her. "When I saw the buildings downtown, they looked so big I almost had claustrophobia!" she admitted. Although the Stubbs had a wonderful Christmas, they agreed, upon their return Monday night, that they're so glad they live in Coral Gables rather than in the big, big town of St. Louis, Mo.

Gables Folk Prominent At Surf Soiree

For a town staunchly opposed to consolidation, Coral Gables did right well in "taking over" a portion of Miami Beach last evening at the reception and cocktail-buffet given by President John G. Thompson of the Orange Bowl Committee. Exchanging greetings with governors and ambassadors and visiting dignitaries from Kansas and Georgia in the spacious Surf Club were Gableites galore with their smartly gowned ladies. A fetching, high-crowned coachman's hat topped Mrs. W. Keith Phillips' pepper-and-salt tresses as she received with the Mayor—and scintillating was the word for Mrs. Shaker Shikany's sequin encrusted black cocktail gown. Camille Oelkers, there with her State Representative husband, Chubby, looked like an angel-on-cape from a fashion heaven in purple net halo flecked with gold, and gown to match. Mrs. Frank Holley chose emerald-green cosiney striped in ornament her eye-catching tailored cocktail suit of gold lame—while "Spec" Gau-thier was a vision in Winter white as she danced with husband John. Mrs. Bowman F. Ashe danced a mighty fancy Samba with Hart Morris and appeared to enjoy it almost as much as Dr. Ashe did—watching from the sidelines. With the Ashes and the Morrises at the University of Miami table were Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Dunn, who had to leave the festivities early to get to the boxing matches at the Coral Gables Coliseum. Dr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Weiland, Dr. and Mrs. F. E. Kitchens and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thiel were a gay party at a table on the dance terrace, chatting and watching the Sam H. McCormicks, the Dave Hendricks, the Andrew T. Healys and other Gables neighbors dance by. Seen table-hopping during the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harding, the Charles Fuchs, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Patton, the Lamar Paxsons, the Wilbur Jennings, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pent-land and the Hollis Rineharts. Other Gables guests at the pre-Orange Bowl reception included City Attorney Ted Semple and Mrs. Semple, former Gables City Manager George Shaw and his wife, the McGregor Smiths, Mr. and Mrs. Hoke Welch, the George Hursts and Mr. and Mrs. B. Hili-yard Bishop.
