United Fund Issues Plea For Volunteers
The United Fund area campaign headquarters for Central Dade County has issued an urgent appeal for volunteers by area campaign chairman Hiram Blakey. Blakey, whose office is at 45 NE 1st Ave., urged volunteers interested in making this year's crucial UF drive a success, to stop in personally and offer their services or call FR 7-2501. "The secret of success this year," Blakey said, "is in the volunteers. If we have enough persons to carry on a people-to-people drive, the the campaign will be an assured success." "United Fund, through one fund raising campaign, raises money for support of 54 health and welfare agencies," Blakey continued. "Last year, 275,029 persons from all over Dade County were recipients of at least one of the 400 services offered by a United Fund affiliated agency. That's one out of every three residents of Dade County that benefited from a United Fund agency," the volunteer chairman said. "Of the total persons aided by the United Fund, 107,029 persons lived in the Central Dade County area," Blakey said. United Fund affiliated agencies include the Red Cross, which did such a fine job during the recent hurricane, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the United Cerebral Palsy Association, the Lighthouse for the Blind and 49 others. Florida's 46,000-acre harvest of soybeans in 1959 had a total market value of $2,000,000.
A JOURNEY TO UNDERSTANDING was taken recently by Edward F. Brown. Brown, assistant cashier of Coral Gables First National Bank, is on loan to the United Fund of Dade County on a full time basis to lend his aid in helping the UF reach this year's goal of $3,225,445.
